Chapter Nine

Sage bowled into Heero on her way in the door. He was slammed into the door he had just closed, but she fell back. Heero sneered at her and stood. He began to walk by, but Sage was up and fuming.

"Listen to me! I'm not going to take crap!" Heero paused and flicked a glance back at her.

"You have made my life a living hell from the time I got here, and I just want you to know that I'm not going to stand for it! If you want to get rid of me, go ahead. I'm better off dead anyways!" Sage snarled at him, her eyes red from crying.

Heero pulled his gun out and aimed at her, but with a defiant snarl from Sage he lowered it slightly. She wasn't afraid. What was this? He snorted and pocketed his gun, looking at her warily. She turned and ran up to the blessed solitude of her room.

She heard a knock at her door soon after.

"Go away." She muttered.

"Sage-It's Trowa. I think you want to talk about it."

"I don't. Go away." Trowa pushed open her door and walked in. Sage flipped over so her back was facing him.

"He loves you." He said gently, his voice prodding at her.

"I-I love him too. It's just that I can't let him fall too deeply or-or we'll both get hurt." She said it firmly and stubbornly.

"…I think you're afraid of being hurt. Let go. Quatre needs someone to love him. Be that someone." Trowa stood and looked at her. "But you can't stay cooped up forever."

He turned and left, shutting her door quietly.

Sage sat up and unraveled her hair. It fell to her waist in beautiful mocha curls, bouncy and sleek. She sighed and paused a moment, her hands in her lap, looking at the ground. Bit by bit, her gaze shifted to the door. She stood, and moved toward the door. Walking down the dark hallways in bare feet, she timidly knocked and went into Quatre's room. She didn't come out until morning.
