Duo was bored. Not that he didn't have anything to do; it was just that he didn't want to do it. The monotony of the machines was boring into his head. And the purpose, how benign, how cliché it was, the destruction. Yet it wasn't as if humanity had anything else better to do. So there he sat, pouring over the blueprints- readouts of the war machines. He knew them inside and out, knew their every function and every intricate detail of how they killed. The morbidity was astounding. It wasn't surprising that he worked alone.
Quiet music was playing in the background, the lyrics inaudible, the bass dominating. It caught his attention, as his mind wandered, though was unable to hold it. Soon the walls, aluminum gray, attracted attention. Then the fluorescent light on the ceiling, flickering with a maddening inconsistency. There were no windows in the dungeon- no way for light to penetrate the walls. A pale hand came up to cradle his beautiful, porcelain face. Leaning on his elbow, hunched form hovering over the cluttered wooden desk in front of him, his blue-violet eyes slid closed. Not sleep, never sleep here. Just the ever-present waking vision- a lock of chocolate hair, a flash of endless blue, and you're sinking, falling into the dark abyss of the imagination.
It's always a surprise- he sat up with a start, jolted back into reality. The images lingered, fading into memory, then only glimpses of blue and chocolate, then forgotten until the next waking dream.
