Nobody's Eden Ch5
Peach does not own Gundam Wing or it's characters. If she did there would be no school uniform and Heero and Relena would be at it like rabbits. And more blood.
Relena sighed with deep content. She was lying on a bed of satin and silk sheets draped carelessly over a pile of soft-feathered pillows. She didn't open her eyes. She just lay there, thinking about how she's much rather stay in bed than go to the city. When the hard seal broke from between her lids she brought up a hand to wipe it away.
She was always in for a treat when she woke up. As Kaisa, she should have meals of the rarest and most exquisite foods awaiting her and servants to dress her for the day. But, in Eden, she woke up in a normal room marble, with satin and mesh sheets of red and purple and gold draping from hooks on the ceiling and curving majestically to the opposite side of the room. There was her bed, sheets of white and silver spread messily over soft pillows that lined one corner of the room. There was a large window on the right wall that overlooked the town.
Unlike other countries, the ruler of Eden was not, in any way, more privileged than the other folk. Her home was as big or as small as any other. The one thing that made her home special was that it was on top of the highest point in the town, so all knew where she was and could always find her.
She finally pushed herself up with her hands, stumbling a few times with sleepiness and walked over to her window. It was at this point she wondered `What way is the city?' She raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sun, and strained them towards a gathering crowd in the town square.
At that point she jumped so suddenly and hit her head on the frame as a woman entered her chamber.
“Aie, sorry, Relena. Have you seen what's going on down there?”
The woman handed her an apple and pointed out the window. Relena looked over at her as the woman took a place beside her by the window.
She was a short, raven haired girl that looked as though she didn't have a care in the world. She was a woman, to be sure, but her childish features made her seem pixie-like. A set of wings would have suited her. She wore a robe similar to hers, a thin white dress that draped down to mid calf, and her head was adorned with a band of gold and a single Amarite sphere that touched the centre of her forehead. She wore no make up. That would figure. The people of Eden were not concerned wit looks. Vanity was not something that existed there.
“Relena.” Relena snapped out her thoughts and looked her in the eyes.
“I arsked yea if yu'd seen the commartion yet?” She nudged her head towards the scene below.
“Um, no. What's going on?”
“U han't a clue. Lessee if we cn't check im out?”
The woman ran out of the door. Relena walked slowly after her. She wondered about the woman's accent. Does everyone here talk so strangely? How would she sound to the townsfolk?
Outside, the two women found the edge of the crowd, trying to find a hole in which the could squeeze through.
Relena gasped as she felt a hand on her shoulder. `That's the second time today. I'll die of heart attack before I even get to the city'.
It was man, friendly looking and oddly familiar. He had long silver hair that cascaded down his strong back, and sharp facial features that marked him as someone of importance. His eyes were a shallow blue, not unlike her own, and he was significantly taller than her.
“Relena, have you seen it yet?”
Relena shook her head. What could be the cause of so much commotion. She didn't sense worry in the atmosphere. Just confusion and curiosity.
The man cleared a path for her through the jungle of townsfolk. In the centre of the crowd was a dead bird. Relena crinkled her brows. Why would this be so worrisome?
“The creature doesn't move. We are unsure of why this is. Some children first aw it and thought it to be sleeping. When they stroked it, it did not stir. From then on, curious townsfolk came on by and tried their luck at waking the creature. So far, none have succeeded. I am beginning to think that such an occurrence should be addressed to the high-priest. You should go immediately. We shall pray here.”
All this should have come too fast for her, but strangely she understood. In Eden, there was no death. So seeing this bird unmoving before them must seem foreign. Change anywhere was not welcomed, but here it must be ten times worse as the society was built for an everlasting paradise. Paradise couldn't change. To them, this dead bird is a symbol of plague, or of anger from the trinity.
“Hilde, would you prepare Relena some pack food for her walk to the Del?”
The raven haired woman came forward and nodded to him. “Yes, Milliardo. Relena, the map to the Del is on the doorpost just in case the trail of lamps should fail you. Don't bother packing clothes. You still have some left over at the Del from your last visit.
`So her name's Hilde? I should remember that. His name's Milliardo. What's the Del?'
Milliardo hugged her and whispered in her ear. “When you get to the Del, talk to the priest immediately…tell Lucy I miss her. You know the red trail of lamps by heart right? Do as Hilde says, take the map. You're a smart girl but you are useless at travel.”
She smirked. He must be her brother. She should have guessed from the resemblance in his eyes. `Lucy. She must be his wife, sweetheart? The Del must be the temple in the old language.'
“Good luck, Kaisa.”
She looked at the crowd who now had their eyes trained on her. The voice had belonged to a young girl holding a small mouse.
`Kaisa?'
She hadn't really thought about it before she entered the forest, but shouldn't she have a guide or a bodyguard? She was the `Kaisa'. Surely that was worth protecting?
She'd have to find and answer for that when she to the city. She signed. `Can this trail be any longer?'
She came to a clearing where a small stream ran and smooth, weathered rocks protruded form the grass. She immediately jogged over to the larger one and dumped her bag beside it. Despite her not carrying any clothes and essentials, the bag was heavy when walking so far. She was beginning to feel a lump form on her upper neck.
She sat down on the rock and looked at her feet. They were swollen and the soles were red, yet she didn't feel as if the pain she should have felt was really significant. It was as though pain wasn't something that phased her even though she knew she had it.
She brought one hand down to dip in the cool stream. Feeling the cold rush touch her heated skin was heaven and she brought the same hand to wash her filthy feet. They had not given her shoes. In fact, when she asked for some in the village they thought she was trying to play `one of her childish games' on them and dismissed it while laughing and her whimsy. She had to say; she was feeling quite silly at that moment.
Relena chuckled to herself. Not even a day had gone and she was attached to this place like it was her home. That sent her thoughts wondering.
`Where is my home? Where was I before all of this? What happened before I met the trinity? Did they create me?'
Relena brushed her thoughts away, thinking that she should not ask such questions. She turned to the side of the rock facing the stream and sank her feet into the water. She initially thought about the fish and the animals and how her dirty feet might pollute the water. `I'm an animal too.' She nodded. If she was to survive in this world she should learn that she is a creature of the trinity, not what she felt to be in her heart; something so much more.
She slept that night. She dreamed of a man with brown hair and deep blue eyes that she felt immediately attracted to. No. She loved him. She fell for a vision. A dream. Nothing more…
And that's a wrap. R and R. ^_-
