Nobody's Eden Ch 6 (I think…)
So, standard disclaimer applies. I do not own Gundam Wing or it's characters. But I'm working on seeing if one can buy shares in the company…that's a start.
Relena ran the last few meters to the end of the trail. Hilde had told her that at the end of the trail there should be a stretch of green-land. From there she should follow the direction of the fence running across the field to the left of her. She had no idea how long the stretch would be.
When she reached the end she sat down on the dusty ground to appraise the vision before her. It was just incredible. She had only known of her existence for a few days now, but she was sure that there could be no greater beauty in the world.
It was a field, pure and simple. But the grass was so richly green and vibrant. She could feel the energy radiating form every blade of grass and every tiny dandelion and daisy. The sun shining with barely a cloud to stop it made everything on the field show a golden shimmer. She could see from her position the way the grass waved every time the slight breeze hit it. It was like a ripple on water. Something so simple was so beautiful.
`This must be what it means…all thing bright and beatifu…'
Relena paused in her thoughts. Something hurt deep inside her head when she though of that phrase. How and where had she heard it?
An image came flooding into her head of standing in front of many people, sitting in rows on red chairs, with a tree behind them lit with many colours and adorned with cherubim and doves. She could hear an echo of the phrase she had thought to herself not a few seconds ago. It sounded so terrifyingly haunting. The words were diminished behind a simple and child-like tune, and the children dressed in white crapes around her were holding candles and singing along with her.
Relena collapsed to the ground and clutched her head in her hands. `Why?! What is this?! Wh…'
“WHY IS THIS HAPPENEING?!?!” Her cry echoed through the vastness of the clearing and a flock of pigeons flew away from the frightening desperation in her voice. She was in despair. Why. Why couldn't she see past a few days back? WHAT are these images going through her head?
She curled up into a ball under the shade of the tress that still hung above her and shook with tears.
*On the east West European Sea*
“Sir, our men have spotted an unknown land area not far ahead.”
The one being referred to as `Sir' was tall in structure, with wide shoulders making obvious his power and social supremacy. He was reasonably young, with high cheekbones, tough skin and silky gingerish hair that waved in the wind, threatening to break free of the band that confined it to a small tail that whipped behind his head.
His eyes were blue and held the pride and richness of his social status. His uniform of blue and white suggested his rank as Captain.
“Thank you.” He replied to the woman. “Tell me, does the land show on the maps in the archives?”
The subordinate was also rich looking. She did not give off the rich aura he did, but she seemed to have some background of family wealth. Her uniform was a blood red and she wore her brunette hair in a single braid that cascaded down the lower of her back, tied with a red ribbon to keep it from the wind and also to show her femininity. It was unusual for a woman to play ranks on a ship, but she vowed to show no shame in her gender. She had a stern look about her, and her position as corporal was shown through the look of demand and uncompromising order in her eyes.
“No, Mr. Treize. I have personally searched them myself. This land is new, and from the looks of it, significantly large. If I may, Sir, it would be unwise to ignore the fact that we have found new land, despite our current quest to England. We must consider which would be wiser to prioritise.”
The man looked out at the land appearing as a shadow on the horizon. “It is not my place to make that decision, Lady Romanov. I will inform the young Lord. Drop anchor and keep the men on standby.”
She looked at him slightly saddened. “Sir, I am not yet Lady Romanov. It is my wish that you address me by my maiden name until the day of my union.”
Treize looked at her, the same sadness beginning to appear on his own face. “If that is your wish, Corporal. I wish you a happy marriage come the end of our last voyage as comrades.” He turned on his heel and hesitantly strode toward the drawing room.
Her eyes followed him as her ribbon lost itself in the wind, her hair tumbling loose from its braid and whipping her face. She did not blink as she stared after him. `Treize…it could not have been different. So, please, do not hate me.'
Relena walked onto the peak of the last hill and sat on top of it. She got out her Wanake leaf flask and drank a refreshing swing of water.
In front of her was the final descent to the city. She had walked for an hour across field after field, and she felt so refreshed. It was as though every second spend with the grass under her feet served to absorb the contagious energy that radiated from it.
From what she could see of the city, it was generally flat as the only thing she could see was one tower poking its way from over the trees. She guessed that was the Del.
`Well. I'd better be going. I wonder what the cities are like here?'
And with that she began her final walk into the city, unknowing that the next day would burn a scar in her memory forever.
OK. I'm done. Wrote two fanfics in one day. I proud. Now pleeeeaaassseee review.
