Of Fortune Tellers and Full moons
"Hey, look! Let's go there!" Duo shouted happily while dragging Heero through the whole amusement park. They had no missions upcoming so Heero and Duo decided to have some fun. Well, Duo decided to have some fun while Heero was the poor victim. Okay, he wasn't really poor either. If he wanted, he could have defended himself.
"Duo? Are you crazy? Those can't be taken serious. They only tell you crab you want to hear to get a lotta money we don't have." The Wing Pilot stated coldly.
"Aww, c'mon. I know it's gonna be fun." The braided pilot wouldn't give up so easy. He was at a fortune teller's place once and it was so much fun to drive the teller crazy with his stupid questions and silly statements. Too bad he didn't knew what kind of fortune teller he would meet this time.
"Hn… Okay. But first, you pay, second, let go of my arm." Heero grunted while letting the blood pour into his poorly dragged arm again after Duo let go and glomped him instead, thanking the short-haired boy over and over again.
"Ooooh, thank you thank you thank you, Hee-chan." The cheerful voice continued.
"Don't call me that and now, off." Heero demaded coldly while the braided boy happily ran forward to the little tent in which you could ask for your fortune. Before they walked inside, the japanese pilot stopped Duo once more.
"But Duo." Heero said warningly.
"What?" The american boy answered as innocent as possible.
"Don't make her get a headache."
"Na, of course I won't!" The braided boy grinned before going inside. A strong smell of incense greeted them as they walked inside. It was very dark but two cupboards could be seen to the left and two the right, holding various items, bottles, mirrors and other stuff.
" Welcome, boys. I have waited for you to arrive." A dark, but very friendly voice suddenly spoke up. A light in the middle of the room suddenly appeared and the fortune teller with her table and the crystal ball was seen. The table was decorated with a silken tablecloth and two candles to the left and the right of the crystal ball. A gold coloured scarf was bound over her hair and her face wasn't seen too well, but she seemed middle-aged.
"Please, sit down." She offered the two prepared seats in front of the table to the two pilots.
"Thanks." Duo grinned while taking the left seat."Hee-chan. Sit down." The braided boy smiled and got a grunt as the answer before `Hee-chan' sat down.
"Now, which one of you wants to know something about their future?" The woman asked while looking at both of them.
"Me!" the american pilot grinned. The fortune teller didn't miss the grin on Duo's face and smiled a bit, a smile that promised nothing good. Although Heero couldn't see the grin, he had a bad feeling about the woman.
"Okay, give me your hand, boy." She demanded and Duo, still cheerful, reached out his hand to let the lady `read'. The woman looked at Duo's palm for some time, running her index finger over the line's there. Then she let go of the boy's hand and looked into her crystal ball.
"Well, the crystal ball tells me that you have been a bad kid until you were put somewhere else by a man." The woman stated and watched Duo's expression, which changed from cheerful to serious, with one corner of her eye.
"You have been bad for some more time until a great enemy stepped into your life. Together with you they destroyed your new home, killing your `family' there." The fortune teller made a short break and smirked even more as she knew now that Duo's plan to piss her off wouldn't work anymore as the boy was too broken to say anything.
Heero was astounded. Not only that he's never seen anyone who could stop Duo from talking but he also heard the first time anything about his braided companion's past. And his bad feeling got even worse. He didn't trust the fortune teller.
"Now about your future…." The woman took Duo's hand once again and again she ran her finger over the line's there, stopping when she seemed satisfied.
But before she could say anything, Duo finally snapped out of his memories and started shouting.
"You… you know nothing! You are just a cheep impostor like everyone else!" The boy smirked bitter while the tears ran freely over his cheeks.
"Duo…" Heero wanted to calm the boy down, but the american pilot was too busy with letting his anger out.
"A cheep, untalented impostor! You know nothing, NOTHING!"
"Young man, that's not the way to talk to a lady. And moreover, never make a fortune teller angry, boy." She said, still quite triumphant.
"Fortune teller. Pah. If you are a good fortune teller, then do you know what will happen next? Look into your future, miss!"With that, he raised his fist for a punch, and just in the moment in which Heero wanted to stop it, a loud sound was heard and a black cloud covered Duo.
"DUO?!" Heero shouted. Reacting automatically, he pulled out his gun and pointed it at the woman's head.
"What have you done to him?" he asked coldly.
"Oh, boy. He'll be allright. But if you shoot me now, you will have prolems to lift the curse from him." The fortune teller smirked.
"Curse?" Heero asked perplex.
"I will tell you one thing: Learn to show what you feel for the people you love. Show and prove it. Learn to trust other people. And learn to forget about your pride. It disturbs and hurts other people. Learn those things or the curse will never fade. Today the moon shows his full face. Until second time from now he does that you have time to learn to love the one's who care for you. Do so and Duo will be healed. And now, farewell, Heero Yuy!" With that, a dust cloud appeared and second later it disappeared- together with the woman.Heero stared at the place where the lady sat before for a moment before turning left to look at Duo. And he was greeted by a wet tounge licking his nose and a pair of eyes. One eye was violet, but the other one was yellow.
"AH!" Heero shrieked and fell backwards, staring at the cursed Duo.
"What's wrong, Heero?" A husky voice asked while the braided boy bent down to look if Heero was okay.
"D- Duo. You… your face…." Heero stumbled, not believing what he saw and how he should explain it.
"Hmmmmmmm?" the boy purred, well, grumbled, while licking Heero's nose once more.
"Duo… look… look into a mirror." The short-haired boy demanded while standing up. The boy followed the order and shrieked loud as he saw his reflection.
"Yaaaaaaaa….!!!!!!!" Duo was scared by his own reflection and out of the fear he smashed the mirror. His breath became ragged as he couldn't believe what he had seen.
"Hee….Heero… what happens to me??" Duo asked, terrified, scared and afraid. Afraid of himself. He looked down at his hands and arms, not believing what he saw.
"This, this… can't be real…." He whined. "Heero!" Duo buried his head into Heero's chest, sobbing and crying. At first the japanese pilot didn't know what to do, but seeing it as his mission he carefully lay his arms onto Duo's back, trying to calm the boy down.
The Fortuneteller's curse. The braided pilot would turn into an animal. Which one couldn't be seen at the moment, but the boy's ears were already longer and fury. His nose, cat-like, maybe a bit like a dog. All over his body was grey fur and his hands looked a bit more like pranks then hands.
"Heero…" the boy sobbed. "What, what shall I do? I don't want to change like that!" Duo cried again as he said those words. Too terrified what his future would be.
"Duo… you can't do anything, now." Heero explained to the sobbing boy. "But I will find out, okay?" The japanese pilot comforted his comrade.
"You…will?" The braided boy looked up, surprised that Heero offered his help.
"Yes, you can't be lost for the mission."
"Oh, I see…" Duo bowed his head. He believed that Heero would do this because they were comrades and Heero wanted to help, but of course… it had to be the mission.
"Now how will we get you out without you being seen like this? There are many people who would ask many questions." Heero asked himself aloud.
"That's, … that's no problem." The changing pilot sobbed. "People will think it's a costume. They are… they are all just stupid." As Heero looked a bit unsure, Duo had to smile.
"Trust me, Heero." Trust. Heero thought about the words the fortune teller told him. Yes, he should trust, trust other people. But what about the thing with loved people. His mind looked for different reasons to love someone. You can love family, he thought. And friends. And a… lover. The japanese boy sighed inwardly. Just what did she mean?
As Heero gave no reply, Duo got a bit nervous. "Heero?"
"Hu?"
"Let's go." Duo suggested. He received a nod from Heero and so they walked out of the tent, both praying that people wouldn't ask too many questions.

"God! Finally home!" Duo said aloud as Heero finally came into the living room of the safe house they stayed at the moment. There were no problems with Duo's strange looking until two things happened: First, Duo grew a tail and they had to get it out of his jeans and second, a child was interested in that tail and pulled it. That, of course, made Duo shriek loud for it really hurt. People suddenly got interested and took a closer look. Some were so interested in Duo's strange feature that they followed the couple all the way. Luckily, Heero knew a way to get rid of them and so they ran through the forest, seperated, and after a few minutes, all the other people were gone.
"The forest was a good idea, Heero!" Duo praised the panting boy who had the harder work to get rid of people since Duo was somehow faster since the curse was released.
"Hn…" was all Heero brought out.
"Oh,you're ba- aaaaaahhh!!!" Quatre just came in and saw Duo, nearly getting a heart attack. "Duo, what happened to your face?!" Now that Quatre said it, Heero also noticed that Duo's face had more hair now and his nose had grown longer.
"Am I already looking that terrifying?" the cursed boy asked a bit desperate.
"What happened?!" Quatre was curious and worried.
"We'll explain when everyone's here. Please, call Sally. Maybe she can do something for him." Heero ordered. The blonde boy nodded before rushing upstairs and to the telephone.
"Hu? You think Sally can help?" The boy asked curious.
"It's worth a try." Heero statet flatly. Duo just looked outside the window, staring into the forest from where a voice seemed to call him.

"Yuy…say that again…" Wufei stared at the japanese pilot.
"Duo is turning into an animal. We don't know which one, though. But it seems that he becomes something… furry." Heero reported. Two days had passed since Duo had been cursed and now it was late evening and all pilots exept Duo were sitting round a table, discussing the latest things.
"And what shall we do? We can't let Duo turn into anything. How's it possible anyway?" Quatre asked desperate.
"I can't tell that." Sally suddenly interfered. Heero stood up and walked towards her.
"You couldn't find anything, right?" Since they arrived two days ago Duo was always in his room, never facing anyone. Sally was the only one who got to see him til now.
"…. No… besides the point that Duo was suddenly running out of the room and into the forest."
"He WHAT?!" Quatre shouted while standing up.
"Quatre, calm down." Trowa pushed the blonde boy onto the seat again.
"Why haven't you said anything earlier, onna [1]?" Wufei spat out angry.
"Well, because he just rushed off, saying something about `they call me'." Sally stated a bit confused. But it made Heero's mind turn a bit and suddenly the japanese pilot rushed out to find the braided boy.
"Oh, great. Not Yuy as well. Who's calling *him* now? I'm going to my room. Tell those nature freaks to be quiet when they run home later. I'm tired from the mission. And Quatre, buy some leash for the furry baka [2]." Wufei demanded flatly before walking upstairs to his room.
"..wow..he really must be tired." Quatre stated before following the chinese boy upstairs and going to his own room.

"Duo?!" Heero shouted. He had been looking for any signs of the braided pilot, but after about half an hour he lost the track due to the darkness. Now he had to hope that Duo's hearing had increased and that he wouldn't get lost.
"Duo!! Answer me!!" The japanese boy continued to shout. Suddenly he heard a soft step behind him, making him freeze in his tracks and listen carefully. He had a pretty good idea what was standing behind him and he slowly pulled out his gun but was suddenly pinned to the ground. The angry face of a wolf stared at him and Heero made no move for he was sure the animal would bite then.
"Hey, hey, easy there. He won't do anything." The familiar cheerful voice suddenly spoke up. On that command, the wolf suddenly released Heero and went to the slender figure some feet away in front of Heero.
"There you are…." Heero mouthed before standing up.
"Where else?" Duo grinned. "But the mystery of what kind of animal I will change to is solved. I realized it when the little cutesy here called me." While saying so, the braided `boy' stroked the wolf beside him gentle.
"Wolf?" Heero asked curious.
"Jup. Say, have you found out anything about the curse?" Duo asked while playing with the wolf.
"Not too much. You will completely change after 2 full moons. Nothing will bring you back then." And I still couldn't solve the riddle the lady gave me, Heero added mentually.
"Oh, I have to wait soooo long?" Duo sighed.
"Wh- what!?" The Wing pilot stared. Duo wanted to change??
"You heard me, Heero. I like the change. You know, I can run faster, hear better, smell better. I have many new friends here and I like it." The braided pilot smiled. But Heero refused to say anything. I have to find out what she meant, Heero cursed himself silently.
"Now if you don't mind, I will stay here a little longer. You can leave now." The american pilot explained. But there was a problem.
"Erm, Duo?" Heero stopped his companion before he left.
"What else?" Duo sounded a bit annoyed.
"… could you…ummmm… show me the way back?" The japanese boy asked ashamed. At first, Duo blinked and stared, but then he began to grin like a maniac.
"Sohooo… the `perfect soldier' has problems with nightvisions?? Oho…" The `boy' grinned all the way before he could see a hint of sadness in the `perfect soldiers' eyes which faded immediately. The cursed boy stopped grinning and felt ashamed of himself.
"Um… just follow me…." He mumbled before going. Heero, a bit confused, followed him.

"Ah! There you are! You almost made us worry, Heero." Quatre greeted the japanese boy before lokking for Duo.
"Where's Duo?" The blonde boy asked.
"Out in the forest, enjoying himself." Heero answered coldly.
"What?!"
"I think he likes his curse. I'm going to my room now. Good night." Heero murmured before going upstairs.
As Heero entered his and Duo's room, he suddenly felt strange. Normally, a braided idiot would greet him now, lying on his bed and asking him a lot of questions about the mission Heero usually came back from. But now the room was empty and cold. Wait a minute, cold? Heero froze a bit. As he saw the opened window, his mind came up with the explanation that the night air was cold and since the window was open, it cooled down the room.
But before he could close the window, a shadow suddenly fell down before him. Automatically, Heero pointed his gun at the shadow.
"Who are you and what are you doing in this room?" Heero asked coldly.
"Hey, calm down, it's me." The familiar, now husky voice spoke up.
"Duo??" Heero was astounded.
"Yeah,it's me." Duo walked a bit forward, letting some of the moonlight fall onto his face. "Surprised?"
"Yes. You said you wanted to stay in the forest." The japanese pilot answered flatly.
" Yeah, but I underestimated mother nature." The boy grinned. "It's fucking cold outside and I don't have enough fur right now." Duo explained.
"Then go to sleep." Heero stated flatly before closing the window and going to his own bed.
"Uh….Heero?" Duo stopped the short-haired boy from lying down.
"What now?"
"Uh..you…shouldn't ..use ..that bed…" the cursed boy slowly explained.
"And why's that?" Heero's question was answered immediately as a wet tounge suddenly licked his face and a second later, he was looking at a young wolf which tail was swinging happily. After whiping away the wetness of his face, he gave Duo a deathglare.
"What is this thing doing in.. MY ..BED?"
"Uh..you know… he…followed me… and…erm…." Duo tried to explain, knowing that he had just pissed off the perfect solder which was never good or healthy. But to his big surprise, Heero just sighed and went over to Duo's bed.
"Uh, Heero? What are you doing?"
"What does it look like? I'm using your bed and you will use mine." The boy stated flatly before lying down.
"Oh, okay." With that, Duo did the same with Heero's bed, letting the wolf find a comfortable place to sleep on the blanket.
"Uh..thanks, Heero." Duo murmured sleepy.
"No problem", Heero murmured back. Soon, both of them were deep asleep.

"Heero?" A whisper woke said boy up.
"Hu?" The boy answered sleepy. He quickly looked outside. It was still night. "Whadda ya want, Duo?"
"Heero,…I.. I'm….mmm…. co….cold….. " Duo finally brought out between his fight against the trembling.
"Why's that? You have a fur, you have a puppy at your side, you have a warm blanket. Should be enough to warm you." Heero didn't see the problem.
"But… I… I'm …s ttttttt…..stttilll… coold…" Duo trembled.
"Then take a hot shower." Heero suggested.
"And …th…the fur? It… it'll…. Take……… a loooog..t…t…time for it to.. drrrrr…drryyyy…"
Heero sighed. Duo would surely ask if he could sleep together with him in one bed. But then, the fortune teller's words flashed back into his mind. He should show that he cared for other people. Deciding that it wouldn't help Duo's curse if he refused the unspoken question, he finally agreed with him.
"Okay, you can sleep in my bed." Heero sighed a bit while holding up the blanket. Duo blinked once, blinked twice, and then smiled, taking the offer and lying down besides Heero. The japanese boy had to hiss slightly as he felt the coolness of Duo's body. The boy was indeed very cold.
"Thhhhhhhank you, Hee.. Heeee-chan." Duo smiled before he snuggled up against the other boy. And a bit to his surprise, the `Hee-chan' did nothing to stop him. He only snorted a bit. Soon, Heero could hear the steady breathing of his comrade who unconiously laid an arm over Heero's waist. And the japanese boy surprised himself as he neither snorted nor tried to escape the arm, but he sighed happily.
It was strange, but he liked it. Never had he felt such close contact to another human being. Well, Duo wasn't fully human anymore, but still it felt, so warm. Heero sighed once more, happy that he caught one meaning of the riddle the fortune teller told him. Well, it wasn't a real riddle, but for the `perfect soldier', it was.
