Phantom
Chapter 2
Quatre's and Trowa's living quaters were to say the least, very well taken care of. With working modern plumbing, working electricity, a nice plush carpet in the bedroom, and living room, and a kitchen with every modern appliance needed. It even still had a king sized bed in the bedroom, plus an office off to one side. Quatre happily bounced on the bed like a little kid would do. "You'll break it.", Trowa warned.
"I'm just testing the springs..", Quatre happily purred into Trowa's ear as he walked by.
"Uh- huh.", Trowa said, not effected, "Remember Heero said he'd come over to help, maybe it'd be nice for him if we cut down the lovie dovie while he's staying here with us.",
Quatre looked at Trowa concern written on his face. "How long has that been?", Quatre asked.
"Quiet a while, but I don't think Heero's really ever gotten over Duo's death.", Trowa explained, "He's still blaming himself for not being kinder to the darn baka in the first place, you know. That, and still wishing he'd said something sooner to Duo about his feelings.",
"Yeah, I guess that could weight down on him a lot.", Quatre stated, "When's he coming anyway?",
"Not until tomorrow evening.", Trowa explained.
"So, who says we have to cut sex out of our vocabulary tonight?", Quatre pleaded.
"Oh, all right then.", Trowa sighed.
.....
Heero walked up the rainy street, umbrella in hand, the cross on the end of his necklace swinging freely with each hurried step he took. Heero wasn't much of a religious man, the necklace was the only religious thing he had. It had been Duo's that was why Heero always wore it, he wouldn't sell the thing for all the diamonds in the world. The necklace was all he had left of the former braided pilot, of Duo Maxwell. He'd laid countless nights, unable to get to sleep and just laying there remembering how Duo would ask him annoying questions until he fell asleep. Like, "Hey, Heero, have you ever wondered what it's like being dead?", Heero'd always answer with a no, now go to sleep each and every time that came up. Of course, he knew it'd been a long time, and that he needed to start to get over it, but, almost everywhere he'd been, he'd seen, heard, or thought about Duo.
As Heero first came up to the former Opera House, his initial thought was, 'Duo'd never come to one of these places.',
Just as he came to the doors of the Theater his acute senses left from the war told him he was being watched, but no one was anywhere around him. Heero shrugged it off when Trowa opened the door for him. "You've changed a lot.", Heero commented.
"Well, I think you should be talking, no more messy mane, I take it?", Trowa asked.
"Actually, when I went to have it cut, the barber said I'd be better off going bald, and starting all over again.", Heero explained.
"I can see why, you never really brushed it.", Trowa explained, "I don't see how Quatre and D-",
"It's.... Okay now.", Heero sighed.
"Yeah, well, Quatre's kept his so damn baby fine, I don't get it.", Trowa said.
"Baby shampoo.", Heero replied, "It keeps the hair fine, and soft.",
"How'd you find out?", Trowa asked.
"Duo used that or horse mane shampoo on his hair.", Heero muttered.
"So, for the ceiling in the main seating area, there was a painting of the constellations.", Trowa replied, "Quatre wants that done before we get the new carpet, and seats in there.",
"So, all we'll be doing tomorrow is laying on our backs, painting?", Heero asked.
"Yes.", Quatre answered, "Hello, Heero, nice to see you again, it's been so long.",
He gave Heero a tight hug, before looking at Trowa, "Which level is that seat number thirteen?", he asked, "I'm just going to go check on it.",
"Why does he need to check on a seat?", Heero asked.
"Well, it seems we have a resident phantom of whom wants to have plenty of profits from us.", Trowa explained, "When we got here there was a letter left by him with specific demands, and instructions. Since then, our carpenters, and repairmen have reported strange noises, and a shadowed figure watching them, then disappearing.",
"Trowa, TROWA!!!", Quatre came running down the stairs waving something in the air, "I- I seen him, he was... He was staring back at me, and I swear he winked, nodding and then vanished right into thin air. He left another letter too.",
"All right, Quatre calm down, and let me see this.", Heero replied.
Dear Sirs,
I have received your payment, and have enjoyed watching the progress of the renovations. However, I suggest you look into the wiring for your stage lights. I believe you will find a very hazardous situation with them. I will place one last request. The seat number thirteen's box always be rented out to me when you open up. I would enjoy my evenings with some entertainment. Be advised that you will not have a need to send anyone down any farther down than the dressing rooms below the stage. I am handling the repairs down there personally. You seem to be progressing at a proper rate, keep up the good work. I will be expecting a letter as to tell me when the theater will be reopening, and the dates, and times for each showing for that week.
Sincerely,
Your Resident Phantom
Heero looked up at Trowa, who was holding the still shocked Quatre. "I think we better check the lighting wires as this suggests.
.....
Duo sat in his underground apartments, and chuckled silently to himself. He'd actually worried that no one would buy the old dump. However, right at the moment he'd just encountered one of the current owners he had eating out of his hand. He'd already gotten the rumors flying, as long as everyone believed him to be a ghost, they were all scared out of their wits. Duo had noticed something though, the new owner's guest seemed... Familiar, in more aspects than one, he'd obviously been a top mark pilot. He'd noticed Duo was there watching him, even when Duo was still on the roof. However, when they did see the lighting wires, he'd have all of them convinced. He still wanted to know their names though, they reminded him so much about his old friends, only he knew they couldn't possibly be, that one wore a cross around his neck, Heero definitely wouldn't wear one of those. Duo leaned back into his plush chair. He'd check all the plumbing and circuits of the lowest level of the theater tomorrow, and it was bound to be a daunting task. He went off to bed for the night, carefully taking off his mask, and laying it beside the bed, soon after falling asleep.
