Summary - `You promised me you'd never leave' Heero waits by Duo's bedside, reminding him of his promise. 1x2

Promises

"Come on Duo…" Heero ran his hand through his lover's bangs, relishing the feel of the silky strands between his fingers. "You said you wouldn't leave me."

He garnered no response from his American lover, the violet eyes remained firmly closed.

"You don't lie Duo, you don't lie and you said you weren't going to leave me alone." He looked at the braided pilot and answered an unspoken comment. "Yes I know that Quatre, Trowa and Wufei are here but that doesn't mean anything, not if you're not. You said you weren't going to leave me, I've got it in writing."

He did too, engraved inside the platinum wedding ring he wore on his hand, `you'll never walk alone'. Duo wore an identical one and Heero's hand moved to trace the piece of metal, slightly blackened from the explosion but still perfect.

He should have stopped, he'd seen his lover go down out of the corner of his eye but he hadn't had time to even move before the explosion overtook him too. When he'd opened his eyes the first thing he'd seen wasn't his mate but Quatre, who'd told about Duo.

Quatre, who thought he was spending far too much time here, Trowa who could understand, Quatre had also spent time in a hospital bed after the explosion at the warehouse the five of them had been investigating. And Wufei, who was still trying to adjust to…

He was jerked from his thoughts as the heart monitor began to register one continuous beep and he registered the sensation of lips kissing his neck.

Spinning around he met the bright eyes of his husband.

"I said I wasn't going to leave." Duo murmured softly.

"Yeah, you did."

Leaning back into his lover's arms Heero's gaze returned to the scene below him. The room was filled with doctors and nurses, all running around, all shouting at each another.

All desperately trying to bring Duo Maxwell, the last gundam pilot, back to the land of the living.
