"Kaylyn."

Dropping into a chair, Kaylyn kept her face a cool mask, ignoring the anxiety that made her palms sweat and slide apart. The dim room was set up as if it were a teacher's conference of some sort, if you had the most sadistic teachers ever.

"Yes, Doctor J?"

"Kaylyn," looking at his compatriots, he nodded as if conferring with them, "Your services are no longer required with the boys."

"Sir? You're done with me?" Kaylyn began to stand, both worry and relief in her mind. Worry, for the boys, and relief to be out of the doctors' reach.

"Oh Kaylyn, we're not done with you. You are just done with the boys." The ominous warning came from Doctor S.

"Can I . . . may I please, please, say goodbye to the boys?" She made no query as to their plans for her. She didn't want to know. After going through their "training lessons," she could imagine the hellish fury awaiting her.

"No." This from the unbending Master O.

"Please, I'm begging you." She turned beseeching green eyes to Instructor H, the softest of the four.

"What can it hurt, let the girl have four days, it's not as if we won't have her for the rest of her days." The Instructor reasoned to his fellows.

"Fine, so be it, you have five days Kaylyn." Professor G did not bother with threatening her. They all knew that even the idea of the boys being hurt, further, kept her in line.

Kaylyn Tanimer sat in her cell, clutching her final gift to her charges.

As an orphan she had been picked up by Doctor J, who promptly saw that all of her records were conveniently lost in a fire. She had then been "recruited", translation beaten into understanding, that she was to have charge of four young boys that the Doctor and his partners were "training."

Basically she was to see that they were fed, clean, and that their "lessons" would teach them properly. In order for her to do this successfully, she was the guinea pig for every experiment the doctors considered putting the boys through.

Four young boys: Heero, Duo, Trowa, and Quatre. All were picked up by one of the five doctors, except Master O, who had not yet found a student. Kaylyn was of an age with her charges, but was younger than Trowa. Yet, even though she knew of all four, each boy only knew of himself and her. They didn't know each other, they didn't know the plans and future already plotted out, along with their predicted deaths.

Looking down into her palm, she carefully traced each ring, a solid silver band, with a shooting star made of black pearl. These were her gifts to her boys. They were supposed to be tracking signals that the Doctors were going to insert into each child, but Kaylyn had short circuited them, just long enough to convince the Doctors that they were useless. Each also contained a microscopic device which pulsed in code for each of the bearers. This way, when the boys finally met, they would know who to trust, and that they did have a link. She carefully placed her ring on her finger, activated the switch and then turned on all the others.

"Kaylyn, time."

With a resigned sigh, she hid the rings in her pocket and trudged after her guard. It was time to say goodbye to her boys.

~.~.~

Well, this is the first installment. I know, there is basically no information. More is to come, I promise.

Some basic information, for the future. The relationships I plan on developing are as follows: Heero and Trowa; Quatre and Relena; Duo and Zechs, and eventually Wufei and Kaylyn. Yeah, not very conventional in some places, but hey, who cares? NOT ME! And that's all that matters ( just kidding ).

Yeah, don't be too surprised if there is some OOCness.

Thanks, c&c welcome, close minded flames will be fed with great ceremony to my three puppy dogs. Should not the literary arts strive towards the destruction of barriers, and not towards the creation thereof?

Don't own `em, will never have enough money to.
