Trowa stared out the circus tent quietly thinking of his love. It had been two months since he had purposed to her, two months since they had shared their first time together, and two months since he had been able to see her. He had left with the circus the day after.
He wasn't worried about her safety. He knew that Heero was always near by watching out for her. But he missed her like crazy. He moved away from his place striding purposively toward the back of the tent.
"Where are you going, Trowa?" Catherine called, glancing down at the half-mask that was sitting next to her.
"To see Relena," he responded without turning around.
Catherine smiled wide. "It is amazing what he will do for her." Then she sighed as she picked up his mask. "I guess I will have to go tell Manager that Trowa has taken off again." Then she had another thought. "Wait up, Trowa. I am coming with you!"
~~~~~~~
Relena stared out into the endless night at the edge of her balcony, sighing deeply. Her fingers twirling her engagement ring around in circles.
"What's wrong?" a quiet voice asked her from behind.
Relena didn't need to turn around to know that Heero was standing there. She just shook her head in an answer to him.
"Relena, you have been standing out here since you got back from your meetings," Heero pointed out. "You haven't even removed your jacket yet."
Relena looked down at her business suit another sigh escaping her lips. Then a thought went through her head. "Heero, do you think you can do me a favor?" she asked, turning around to look at him.
Heero knew that he could never refuse that look, but he narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her anyway. "That depends."
"Can you take me somewhere?"
Heero narrowed his eyes even further. "Where?" he asked, even though he knew exactly where she wanted to go and whom she wanted to see.
"To Trowa," she pleaded, her expression telling him just how much she needed this.
Heero sighed, knowing the chaos this would cause, but he nodded anyway.
Relena squealed in delight and threw her arms around Heero. "Thank you!"
Heero returned the embrace briefly before pushing her away. "Go pack," his voice never wavering from his monotone. Then as she was disappearing into her bedroom he added, "And change your clothes."
He was rewarded with her tinkling laughter. A soft smile played along his lips. He still felt the need to give the former Queen of the World anything she desired.
~ Damn these old wheels
Rollin' too slow
I stare down this white line
With so far to go
Headlights keep coming
Loneliness hummin' along ~
Trowa sighed as he passed yet another pit stop. They all seemed to blur into one another as he speed along. If he didn't have to stop he would be able to make it to Relena before the morning would come.
Catherine chuckled next to him.
"What?" he asked, somehow needing her small talk to fill up the silence of the small cab of the blue Chevy pick-up he was driving.
His sister chuckled again. "You must be really impatient," she said clearly amused.
"..."
"One, you actually let me come with you," she said counting off fingers. "Two, you sighed... you never sigh unless you want something done. And three, you are actually making small talk with me."
Trowa smiled slightly at his sister. He was well aware that her observations were correct.
"Not that I blame you," she said smiling softly at him. "It has been quite awhile seen you two have been able to see each other."
~ Who poured this rain
Who made these clouds
I stare through this windshield
Thinkin' out loud
Time keeps on crawlin'
Love keeps on calling me home ~
Relena shifted in her seat as the rain started pouring a little faster, looking at the clock. "Damn rain," she muttered to herself. She gasped when she heard Heero chuckle. "Did I say that out loud?" she looked at him, her hand covering her mouth.
Heero nodded his head, still smiling slightly at hearing Relena swear.
As the rain picked up, Relena looked over at Heero with a worried expression. "Are we going to be able to make it there tonight?"
Heero nodded again. "That is why I insisted on taking my car."
Relena was suddenly grateful of Heero's insightfulness. If only she had paid more attention to the weather, she would not have worn this little white tank top and matching white pants. 'Oh well,' she sighed to herself. 'It will be worth it to see Trowa. A little rain isn't going to hurt me anyway.'
Relena looked at the clock and sighed again.
~ I'd take all these mountains
And take to the skies
Sail through the heavens
With stars in my eyes ~
Trowa drummed his fingers on the wheel. He was agitated by the sudden appearance of the rain. What he wouldn't give to be able to have Heero's Gundam right about now.
He briefly remembered the first time he piloted Wing. It was quite different than Heavyarms. It was also the first time he had come across Relena.
She was trying to stop the fight between Heero and Zechs. He had to admire the way that she had willingly put herself at risk in order to stop their nonsense.
She still held that strength, that spark, that he caught a glimpse of back then. It was that spark that continually drew people to her, that drew him to her. But he loved her for more than her spark; he loved all of her.
He glanced over at Catherine, seeing that she was sound asleep. He smiled slightly, thankful that he had found her. If it wasn't for her, he would have self-destructed Heavyarms during that performance on the OZ base, and then he would have never seen peaceful times or fallen in love with his princess.
He looked back up at the skies that got darker, promising that this was just the start of the storm. "I really wish that I could fly," he muttered quietly.
~ If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings ~
"I really wish I could fly," Relena said wistfully, earning yet another chuckle from Heero. Relena playfully smacked him on the arm. "It isn't that funny, Heero Yuy."
Heero shot her a rare grin. "Yes, it is," he assured her. "Imagine anyone else seeing the vice-foreign minister squirming around in her seat like a two year old, wishing that she could fly."
Relena laughed softly. "Can you imagine what they are all going to say tomorrow when they can't find me anywhere?"
Heero chuckled. "I imagine that there will be panic."
"I guess I should have told someone," she mused softly.
"Don't worry about it. I will call Lady Une in the morning and let her know your whereabouts," Heero assured her, reaching over to squeeze her hand.
Relena squeezed his in return, thankful for her best friend.
It was odd that Heero had hurt her in the worst way possible, but gave her the greatest gift at the same time. She was free from her obsession of the stoic pilot to fully love another. Another that had the most amazing green eyes that could see right through her soul.
~ We both committed
We both agreed
You do what you have to
To get what you need
Feeling you near me with so many miles in between ~
Trowa regretted, not for the first time, that he agreed to keep doing the circus while Relena stayed behind to do 'last minute' meetings.
She was supposed to follow him two days after he left. But her one or two meetings turned into five or six and then nine or ten. As of that morning when he talked to her she would be there for yet another week.
He couldn't stand being apart from her any longer so here he was driving in a storm, trying to make it to the capital city before the morning that was fastly approaching.
His thoughts filled with Relena's smiling face when she looked up at him, her face full of love for him. "Soon, Relena," he whispered. "Soon I will be there."
~ Oh, Lord it ain't easy
Out here in the dark
To keep us together so far apart ~
"How much farther," Relena whined next to Heero.
Heero smiled, enjoying the childish behavior that the poised politician was showing him. "We aren't even halfway there yet."
Relena sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. "This is the last time I agree to stay for a few more meetings," she huffed. "Those damn politicians can solve their own problems. I just wanna be with Trowa."
Heero smiled again, knowing that Relena would never be able to just walk away from her job. Then again she just did last night. Maybe Trowa could get Relena to stop working so hard.
~ If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings ~
Trowa glanced at the clock again. It read three am. He knew there was no way that he was going to be able to make it there before she woke up to get to her meetings.
Visions of a sleeping Relena filled his mind and he set his mind that he was going to make it there before she got up. He pushed his foot down harder on the gas. He was going to make it to her tonight if it was going to kill him.
~ Stuck on this circle
Spinnin' around
Cut loose from this road
That keeps tying me down ~
Relena stared out the window, thinking of all the wonderful things that she wanted to do with Trowa when she got to him. Her thoughts were interrupted by Heero's voice.
"Are those headlights?"
Relena looked ahead of her. "Yea," her voice soft. It had been a long time since they had seen anyone else on the road. As the car got closer she recognized it. "It's Trowa!" she cried, clutching Heero's arm.
~ If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had... ~
Catherine awoke when she heard the horn of the car, and was surprised to see her brother pulling the car over. She looked over at him, confusion written all over her face. "What are you doing?"
"That's Heero," he said as he opened the door and stepped out into the pouring rain.
~ If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings ~
The car wasn't even fully stopped by the time Relena had the door open and was running back to where Trowa was pulling the car over. He was just stepping out of his little truck when she had launched herself in his arms. "Trowa!"
Trowa gathered the small woman in his arms, burying his face in her hair, not noticing that they were both getting soaked. "Relena, I missed you."
"I missed you too," she whispered. Then claimed his mouth for a kiss. Letting him know how much she had thought of him in the past two months all in one soul-searing kiss.
Catherine slowly got out of the truck and walked up to Heero with a big smile, thankful that he had out an umbrella.
He opened it as she stepped closer to him, nodding a greeting at her.
Catherine looked over at the soaked couple, a smile plastered across her face. "Well, when those two come up for air, you want to get some breakfast."
Heero smiled slightly at the red-head. "Sure, there is a small town just a few miles back that way."
Trowa pushed a few wet strands out of Relena's face. "I love you Relena."
"I love you, Trowa," she smiled as Trowa pulled her closer for another kiss.
