Rest In Peace
Chapter 6: Run
"I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release
So, let me rest in peace" -Spike
"Is this necessary?" Abdul asks Rashid.
"Master Quatre's instructions were firm. We are to
ensure the safety of the world, but none of Master
Quatre's friends are to be harmed. They are to return
safely. It is our sworn duty to see to it that
nothing leaves that tomb." Rashid says sternly riding
off. "And we shall see to it."
The thunder grows louder. Harley and Mikhael runs in
from their walk. Heero and Duo runs in from their
tent. Wufei comes out of his tent with a sword out in
hand.
"What is that noise?" Wufei asks angrily.
Duo shrugs, "Got any weaps? We could probably use
them against whatever."
Wufei toss a sword to Heero and throwing knives at
Duo, who caught them without trouble.
Harley protests, "What about the rest of us? Why is
it that they get weapons while we don't?"
"Because Heero has been trained for battle. He taught
Duo when they became lovers so he could protect
himself. I don't know about the rest of you." Wufei
replies.
Harley huff in annoyance. Mikhael wraps an arm around
Harley's waist.
"Don't worry, I'll protect you." Mikhael whispers into
Harley's ear, making him blush.
"Why isn't Tybalt here?" Cyanide asks, looking around.
"With all this noise, you'd think they'd be here at
the main fire."
Faint sounds of battle and war cries drift from the
thunder to their ears. Heero unsheathe the sword
heading towards where his instincts speak of
bloodshed. The others follow, on their guard for any
ambush. What they find is that at Tybalt's slaves are
engaged in battle against black robed riders in their
own camp.
"What is going on?" Skids asks.
The fighters continue fighting. Heero and Duo is
about to join the fray when Wufei pulls them back.
They look at him expectantly.
"It is obvious that they neglect to seek us out. They
went straight for Tybalt's slaves and Tybalt himself.
Let us wait this battle out to see what happens."
Wufei instructs.
"Is that a wise idea?" Cyanide questions. "They may
have just figured they are the only ones to face."
"Hush or you'll draw attention." Duo hisses.
As more and more of Tybalt's men are slain, Tybalt
realizes they have an audience.
"What the bloody hell are you waiting for? We're
dying here. Help us!" Tybalt shouts, dodging a blow.
Rashid rides to higher ground and the Maganacs follow.
"Take nothing from the tomb. You may learn, but do
not open the book nor the sarcophagus, else there will
be much destruction. He who lies dead, but still
awake will seek revenge. Take nothing or you will not
leave this tomb alive." Rashid warns.
"Say what you will, we will survive." Tybalt says
defiantly.
"Then it will be your death foolish idiot." Rashid
says, turning and riding away. "We, the Maganacs,
will be watching."
"What a bunch of nut cases." Tybalt comments.
"Speaking of nut cases. Why didn't you help us?
There are three of you with weapons, why didn't you
join us?"
"These two are my temporary slaves. They do as I
command. I had command them to stay behind with me to
watch this for any opens." Wufei growls. "Besides, I
distinctly remember you arrogantly stating that your
men can defend us against raiders and other such
threats. Why must I expend my own forces for
something your men can handle? It would be a waste of
resources. Obviously something you are unaware of."
Tybalt narrows his eyes at Skids, who accidentally
forgot to put the book down.
"What are you doing holding MY book?" Tybalt asks.
"Um...just taking good care of it so that it won't be
damaged." Skids informs him nervously.
Tybalt notices the amulet in the lock. Snatching the
book from Skids' grasp, Tybalt opens the book. Sand
whips around suddenly and true thunder booms and
lightning flashes.
"What the?" Tybalt asks.
Strange noises erupts from the opening of the tomb.
Tybalt's slaves panics and gets their gear and leaves.
"Deserters!" Tybalt shouts after them. "Once I find
you, I'll have your hide! All of you cowards!"
"They're not cowards. They're smart for running away.
You should have left the tomb be as the leader of the
Maganacs warned. You have opened the book from the
Tomb of the Damned. Your world will soon be no more."
a soft voice informs them.
They turn to find a woman standing in black robes.
Her golden eyes pierced their souls.
"Who are you?" Wufei demands.
"You are not one to make demands now. I am Tabitha's
mother." the woman replies. "You may call me Rei."
"The mother who disappeared after their own daughter's
birth." Tybalt states.
"I was chasing her father." Rei snarls, defending
herself.
Heero recalls another obsessed girl chasing him before
he found happiness in Duo. Relena. Her persistence
is astounding and scary at the same time. Had it not
been for Quatre, he would have been sold to her. At
this time, Tybalt is sneaking off with the book and
amulet.
"Her father? Isn't he Pharaoh Tengo?" Wufei asks.
"The one who raised her may be him, however her
biological father is Hiei." Rei replies.
"Why would you chase him then?" Harley asks, confused.
"After Tabitha's birth, I found out that Hiei betrayed
me by going to HIS lover!" Rei rants in anger. "What
does Kurama have that I don't? That stupid youko!
Couldn't he see that he's married to Karasu?"
"But weren't you married to Pharoah Tengo?" Skids
asks.
"I knew Hiei before he ever found Kurama!" Rei sneers.
Heero clings to Duo, hearing the same reasons Relena
dished out. Rei smirks, seeing Tybalt ride off with
the book and jars. Mikhael wonders why Rei is
smirking when he realizes that while they were talking
to her, Tybalt has taken off with what he has found.
"That bastard!" Mikhael bursts out.
The others realizes that they got left behind. Rei
smirks at them even more, holding up the amulet.
"Now, if you boys won't mind, I think I'll release my
daughter's lover." Rei says, turning and entering the
tomb. "I'd suggest you run."
"We'd better follow her advice." Cyanide says, going
to pack his belongings in record time.
They are all ready in a matter of minutes, not
bothering to douse fires. They ride deep into the
night, their camels having sensed their riders panic
and together, they ride further from the Tomb of the
Damned. Rei's evil cackle snap at their heels as the
sarcophagus is opened. Although it is still night, a
rare sandstorm begins abrew from the tomb.
From their view point, the black robed riders watch.
"What do we do now?" Abdul asks.
"We ride to protect Master Quatre." Rashid replies,
turning his horse towards the city. "We shall do all
we can to live for as long as we can. The end draws
nearer still. Foolish beings."
