Chapter 10:

Duo looked over the people his `partner' had bought in. Funny, these weren't even close to what he pictured the blonde haired blue eyed assassin to bring in. His eyes flickered to Ms. Hediki. In fact…..

His eyes stopped on Talim then on Trowa. Those people were the very last people he'd expect to be here. Unconsciously he brushed his hand over his nose. It was still tender and his cuts still stung.

Hediki looked over each person weighing them carefully. None of them looked to be a major threat to any of her men but she'd learned long ago not go based on looks alone. That mistake could get one killed. “So should I assume that we'll give each of our men a trial run?” She asked turning to Duo.

Duo smirked his eyes were still riveted on Talim. “Yeah, I want that one.” He pointed to Trowa then to Talim. “And that one to have a little sparring match with Chef and Gipsy.”

“Very well, Zech or Serpent can have a match with Quazie.”

Duo gave a noncommittal wave. “You'll need both to take down the big guy.” He looked to the Japanese thief in time to see the quizzical glare sent his way. “You'll see what I'm talking about.”

“I dun wanna fight dem.” Quazie protested. His eyes went to Talim. “Wun fight hims.”

“What the hell is your mother fucking problem? Stop lookin' at me like that.” Talim snapped glaring at the larger being.

//I can see hell in his eyes.....//

Both Duo and Hediki moved to calm their respective teammates only to have one of the two charge the other. Quazie moved first in large thunderous steps. Talim turned to face the towering man battle pole held relaxed at his side.

“Quazie!” Duo yelled not bothering to intercept the oath's path. If they were going to fight, he could at least see if the redhead could hold his own.

Talim waited until Quazie was within arm's length of him before jumping high into the air. His lithe body shot up as if he were in 0G as he somersaulted through the air and landed behind his opponent.
Apparently Quazie was a little smarter than your average idiot. He swung his bulging arms back in a blur catching the smaller combatant in the ribs. Time seemed to freeze upon the two's contact. Talim's eyes widened to the size of saucers as the air was knocked completely out of his lungs. Just as quickly as it seemed to freeze, time started up again. Talim's body recoiled violently moving in a haze and crashing into the far wall behind him. The wall, made of cement and cheap plaster, gave way under the assault.

Duo whistled at the damage.

Hediki felt her blood boil. Without thinking she attacked Quazie with her bare hands. She moved forwards seemingly disappearing and reappearing before the taller man's eyes. Her fist lashed out relentlessly as she punched the green eyed oath between the eyes. Within seconds, Quazie was floored bleeding profusely from a gash. Hediki stood over him glaring murderously.

“Damn…”

Hediki turned at the sound of the breathless curse. Talim stood from the wall hunched in around himself and covered in powder. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. More scrapes were added to other ones as he hobbled from the broken pile of wall. “That hurt.” He coughed. He gritted his teen and forced himself to straighten. When he was finally upright, he let out another cough.

“Status.” Hediki barked.

“Under armor is the sh-izz-nit.” Talim drawled lifting up his shirt. Underneath was a gundanium chest plate fitted to his body. “That worked better than I thought it would.” He said absently.

“You took that punch on purpose?!” Hediki shouted losing her composure for a minute. Talim looked up and grinned widely.

“It's the only way to test a prototype.” He said before eeping as Hediki stalked forwards. “Oh, come one, don't be like that Hee-babe.” He teased effectively keeping his distance from the irked young teen.

“I'm going to wring your neck!”

“Love you too.”

“Ah-hmmm!!!”

Both stopped and looked towards Duo who was standing beside his fallen comrade. “While I do have a problem with Quazie disobeying my orders, I have to say that you didn't have to go so tough on him.”

“'M s'rry, Duo.” Quazie said dizzily.

“I know you are, Quazie.” Duo said without looking back at the fallen man. “Being that, that one's crazy, I'm going to assume that all your people are which is fine with me. Now we'll assign parameters, ne?”

“Very well.” Hediki answered regaining her business-like persona. Without a word, the left the room to `talk business' leaving their team to deal with each other.

“So this is our new team mates?” Wufei inspected. He looked over each person carefully. No one remotely caught his interest….except the one with the long blonde hair. He shook his head quickly. //It hadn't been that long// He chided himself. What would Meiren think of him? She'd died for him. They had been married since he was twelve for fuck sake! He would not forsake her. He was still mourning….right?

“They look very…interesting.” Quatre ventured. But when he said `they' his eyes were all for Trowa.

“If you say so. Looks more like a bunch of liabilities to me.” Chef said absently. He looked coolly over each one until his eyes met Sally's. “A woman shouldn't fight.” He grumbled.

“And what do you call me?” Gypsy quipped. She glared at the taller man challengingly. “Woman can fight if they choose. The ones that choose to stay at home and bake shouldn't.”

“CH.”

“Look, Tro, you have an admirer.” Talim hissed from where he stood. He walked gingerly back to where he was standing with his group. Though the armor had helped with the broken bone part, it didn't make up for the whiplash and scrapes he'd gotten. Oh well.

Trowa looked up instinctively and scanned the other people. He could feel eyes on him now that the redhead had mentioned it. When his eyes found aquamarine blue, he almost blushed (something he rarely did). He looked down quickly and said nothing thought the gaze was starting to make his skin itch.

“Awww, Trowa and Quatre sitting in a tree….” Talim started quietly. He trailed off when he saw Mueller stalking into the vicinity.

“HEDIKI! MAXWELL!!” The old man bellowed. His eyes snapped to Talim. “You, where are they.”

“Does it look like I fucking know?” Talim barked losing his Tamil persona. The disrespectful tone took Mueller by surprise.

“As your employer, I'd advise you to talk to me with some respect.” Mueller seethed only to be seethed back at.

“You ain't my employer, ya damn pussy.” Talim growled enjoying the interesting shade of red the other man turned.

“Now, Tamil, be nice.” Hediki said as he made his entrance with Duo close behind him. Talim stepped back slowly never taking his eyes off of Mueller.

“What's the meaning of this?” The elderly man demanded.

“Well, we needed to replace the staff with something more efficient.” Duo said professionally. "Seems like this one was under Ms. Hediki's employ the whole time." He couldn't help but grin at the fact.

Mueller, however, didn't find it amusing in the least. "WHAT?! That runt caused over a hundred credits worth of damage to my wiring and cameras!"

"This runt did as he was ordered." Talim grumbled.

"You....you...." In his rage, Mueller approached the teen fist clenched to his sides. Talim cocked his head at him and waited.

"Before I let this go any further....the last man to hit Tamil was his father...and he's somewhere lying in a ditch....in pieces." Hediki stated coolly. He had been there when the abusive parent met his end.

Mueller stopped seemingly weighing his pros and cons. "You don't seem that dangerous, boy." He growled.

"Keep comin' at me and you'll find out." Talim answered stepping forward just a bit. Something in his eyes seemed to spook the older man. Mueller stepped down.

"Never mind that. These are the people. How can you guarantee their loyalty?"

"We can guarantee their loyalty to us...you on the other hand...." Duo left it at that.

Mueller frowned. "Then why..."

"We are business executives ourselves. We do what is in the best interest of us therefore we recruited men we knew could get *our* orders done." Hediki stated.

"But..."

"If Maxwell and I are loyal to you and our men are loyal to us, they will be loyal to you through us...make sense?" Duo asked knowing full well that it didn't.

Mueller breathed slowly out of his nose. "Just make sure things go as planned. If one more thing is stolen, I'll hold you two responsible."

"Counting on it." Hediki drawled and turned to his men. "Okay, let's take you to your quarters."

TBC…….

A/N: I love making Mueller sweat. Did anyone pick up on any clues? To what, you may ask. I'm not going to tell though. You'll find out in the next few chapters.
