Chapter 29:
“What the hell is going on?!” Colt shouted. She glared around the training ground. “What the fuck is going on?!” She yelled again when no one moved to answer.
“That guy…” Nita started pointing to Serpent's writhing form. “…started some shit he couldn't finish.”
Colt looked towards the hazel eyed girl then back to Serpent. “Havoc, I need some back up over here.” She called over her intercom. At the same time, Serpent flew to his feet knocking Duo from over him. He hissed angrily and ran blindly forward toward Heero.
//I have to move!!// Heero said to himself as Serpent came closer and closer. “Damn it! Move!” He tried again. “Fuck it!!” He shouted finally feeling his body's control return. He surged to his feet as well picking up a stone as he did. He threw the rock as hard as he could towards Talim before blocking a fatal block to the neck.
Talim fell back narrowly avoiding the thrown rock. He flipped quickly to his feet still trapped in his own world of fear.
“Interesting way of getting each other back on track, wouldn't you say, Maree?” Nita asked.
The ebony eyed girl beside her shrugged.
“DIE!!!! I WILL KILL YOU!!!” Serpent shouted hystJasonally. He swung recklessly in front of him still able to track Heero's movements. After a while, the Japanese teen finally stood still.
“Then by all means come get us.” Heero seethed. His cobalt eyes were blocks of vibrant blue ice sparkling dangerously from under his unruly bangs. His voice was low and husky promising death in its full glory. “We'll fight one on one if you prefer.” He added slowly taking a stance.
“Just save some for me.” Duo called from where he'd been watching. His eyes hadn't changed in their vibrancy. In fact, their color had dulled into frosty mauve. At his side resting on the ground was Chef.
“I'll have all of your deaths behind me soon enough.” Serpent growled sprinting forward. He turned intending to bypass Heero completely. His target, the redhead youth hanging his head.
Talim stood unmoving head turned down so that his hair shadowed his face.
Serpent grew closer and closer until he could see on neon green eye watching him calculatingly. Closer up, one could see yellow and green swirling in the depths of his gaze. Around his iris was a thin red lining. Spooked, Serpent jumped back breaking his stride. At the same time Heero intervened crashing his fist into the man's gut. This time the hardness of his abs didn't stop the force of the blow from affecting him. He doubled over coughing up more blood before being punched hard enough to send his body twirling through the air.
He hit the ground hard holding his jaw. Heero stood within arm's length from him waiting as he worked to get to his feet. His smoldering eyes never left his prey.
Serpent let his hands fall from his jaw and almost cried in pain when it hung uselessly. Dislocated. He looked horrified to the teen before him. //Such force// He thought through the hot pain surrounding the bottom of his face.
“ENOUGH!!”
The sudden shout wasn't enough to stop Heero from readying for another strike. He twisted bringing his foot up in roundhouse kick. It connected perfectly with the side of Serpent's skull. The man hit the ground with a crack and made no move to get back up.
Shaharra stalked angrily towards the altercation. Her brown eyes glared at each and every inmate adding an extra two feet to the circle they had formed. “What the fuck is going on?” She hissed.
“Sorry, Shar, we already answered that one.” Nita chirped. She pointed down to Serpent's now completely prone body and grinned. Just then, Havoc came running onto the training field.
“Havoc, take Amber's blade please.” The warden ordered walking towards the man in question. She watched carefully for signs that the man would get up and attack. She stuffed her hands in her pocket and sniffed once she was close. Slowly, she nudged the man with her boot until he turned to lie on his back. She raised an eyebrow then snorted. “Isn't this the fucker that escaped from L8's prison?”
Havoc paused in his slow approach to retrieve Amber's knife and looked back. Frowning, he moved closer staring down into the man's face. “Yup, killed seventy-two men and forty-eight women…” He stated.
“Hmmm…send him to solitary confinement, Cell block eight.” Shaharra ordered.
Havoc shrugged and did as he was told quickly. When he was on his way off the exercise grounds, Shaharra turned to the other youths.
“Amber…” She called holding out her hand. Amber trotted forward and placed her switchblade in the woman's hand obediently but not albeit a good pout. “I'm sure you'll find a way to get it back. As for as the rest of you, report back to your huts.” She turned motioning for Heero and the rest of them to follow her.
*
The gang of teens followed the redhead warden in silence. They turned corners and walked down halls. None asked any questions as to where they were going or what they were going to do. Only Nita and Amber seemed to know where they were headed probably having been in this sector before.
They turned yet another corner running into Sally who was being escorted by Shadow. “Heero!” She greeted smiling warming. The Japanese teen only looked at her with stony coldness. The gaze alone was enough to cause her to falter. “What's wrong?” She asked worriedly.
“There was a fight.” Nita answered. “How'd you get down here?”
The multi-cultural woman ducked her head sheepishly. “I was curious to find out about this place and got lost.” She blushed then realization finally set in. “And you are?”
“Nita.”
“You look like…never mind. What are you all doing down here?”
“Playing follow the leader.” Quatre quipped shrugging indifferently. He looked worriedly towards Talim finding the boy the same way he had left the `gym'.
“Is he alright” Sally asked moving to touch the redhead. Talim caught her hand squeezing it almost painfully. “Talim, you're hurting my hand.”
“I'd advise you not to touch me right now.” The boy warned. His voice was blank but laced with danger. He let go of her hand and resumed down the hall behind Shaharra who had not stopped for the friend banter. The rest of the thieves followed.
“What's that?” Sally asked raising an eyebrow at the teen's back.
“Diablo.” Heero answered managing to regain himself somewhat. “He has a personality disorder.”
“And you don't.” Duo snorted. He received a glare…which was kind of….cute in the right… He shook his head roughly. He wasn't looking at Heero like that. They were enemies, rivals, and nothing else. He had promised to kill the youth and everything. //Damn//
“We're here.” Shaharra called back. In front of her were six doors. “Now a rule for drawing blood with the intention of killing is solitary confinement for three months. Being that it was in self defense, I *have* to waver it to a mere three weeks. You have very little to no light, no noise, nobody…usually. But since Serpent is in block eight and block six is always occupied you'll have to share.” She turned to regard each teen. “Hmmm…Heero and…Duo, block one. Quatre and Amber block two. And Talim you can share with block six.”
The redhead nodded slowly and sauntered over to the door.
“Any objections?” Shaharra asked. She waited only a few seconds before pressing a few keys on the padlock controlling the doors. “The only way for any of your confinement to be raised is if you're deathly sick, mauled, there's a call for evacuation, and/or the apocalypse.”
The door slowly hissed as they opened. Distilled air formed billowing clouds before dissipating.
“Have a nice time.” She said grinning.
“This blows.” Amber grumbled and walked in. “I always get block four. Why not three or two? I hate the number four!!” Hesitantly, Quatre followed after the girl almost looking pleadingly towards his sadistic warden. The door was closed as soon as he stepped through the threshold.
“Next.” Shaharra said brightly.
Duo sighed shaking his head slowly. He walked into the room blinking as his eyes adjusted to the darkness. It wasn't that bad. Behind him, he heard Heero walk in. Hopefully, his roommate wouldn't be some crazy man who couldn't handle a little silence and solitude. They listened as the door closed cutting off any and all noises. The silence that fell upon them was thick in their ears.
“Well this should be fun." Heero grumbled.
Duo snorted and followed. “Yeah, real fun.” Their door closed as well.
Talim went into his designated cell last. His eyes scanned almost frantically to find the presence he knew was there.
“Take him back.” The young male tenor made the youth jump. Talim eyes found the source of the voice rather quickly finding himself staring into the coldest icy blue eyes he'd ever seen. “I don't want him here.”
“Too bad. Everyone else had a roommate and I'd hate for him to be killed by Serpent.” Shaharra answered pressing the necessary buttons to close and lock the last door.
“Oh, dear,” Sally said once all the teens were locked away. “Where's Quazie?”
Shaharra blinked then frowned. “Oh, yeah, forgot about him. Well, better go get him.”
**
“Come along Quazie.”
“Quazie coming. Him coming. He get to see his Gypsy?”
“Of course, Quazie.” J stopped and smiled at the large man. “Your Gypsy is just behind these doors.”
TBC……
A/N: Let the Quazie-torture begin—uh…I mean…more plot development coming soon. ^_^;;
