Chapter 4
Meanwhile…
*knock-knock-knock*
"Ma'am, open the door, please. This is the police."
Kaori's head whipped towards the door. Looking down at her dead boyfriend, she knew she couldn't hide the body fast enough. Steeling her nerves, she stalked over to the door. Opening it revealed a short Chinese man and a much taller man with long blonde hair. The first looked annoyed at having to wait, while the latter just looked bored.
Quickly, Kaori turned on the waterworks. Launching herself at the Chinese man, she wrapped her arms around his neck, almost chokingly tight and buried her face at his shoulder.
Zechs snorted, amused at the panicked look Wufei was throwing at him. Then his nose picked up a scent he knew he'd never forget: blood. Head snapping back towards the bawling woman, he scrutinized her carefully. Her clothes were just a tshirt and jeans, wrinkled and looking like she'd been wearing them for a few days. He could pick up the scent of booze wafting off of her clearly.
Wufei had managed to set her away from him a bit, and her face was splotchy, covered in tears. Zechs couldn't understand a word she was saying.
"Ma'am, we've had calls complaining about a domestic dispute…"
"He killed him!"
Both officers snapped to attention. "Who killed who?"
Kaori pointed a shaking hand into the house. If she played this right, she wouldn't have any trouble at all finding her errant son.
Zechs cautiously entered the house, and followed the scent of blood as he came closer to the living room. Then he saw what all the fuss was about. Facedown, the body of a man was sprawled out amidst broken glass and a drying pool of blood.
Wufei had brought her back into the house. "What happened?"
"My son happened… (sob) I was just telling him about my marrying Jack and he lost it! He was yelling, and started threatening me… Jack… (hiccup) He tried to stop him when he came at us with a broken bottle and Heero… h-he killed him! He shoved him so hard Jack hit his head and didn't get up! Then… oh god, then he started chasing me through the house with the broken bottle…"
Wufei eyed the scene, things looked as though she was telling the truth, but-
"How did you hurt your hand?" he asked.
Kaori blinked. She forgotten about the bottle slicing her hand when she slammed it against the door. "I-I was- I had put my hand up to keep the bottle from my throat when he came at me."
While Wufei was busy making out the police report, Zechs had called for backup to take care of the crime scene.
"We'll be taking you into protective custody," Zechs said, coming up from behind Wufei.
"As long as you keep Heero away from me," Kaori said, smiling weakly. /Shit, how do I get out of this?/

Duo slid into the car carefully so as to not wake Heero. Looking at Heero's sleeping form, he debated whether to pry Heero off the window. He shrugged his shoulders. It would be more interesting watching Heero's reaction when he woke up. He yawned. All of the day's activities had worn him out, and he didn't want to drive during the day. Leaning the seat back, he made himself comfortable before drifting off.

Heero woke slowly, with the dying sun shining in his eyes. Blinking sleepily, he wondered why his face hurt. He opened his eyes further to realize he was practically glued to the window. Pulling away, he rubbed his poor nose back into shape.
*SNORE*
Heero jumped, then looked over at the driver's side curiously. Duo was sprawled haphazardly, one foot draped over the steering wheel, the other on Heero's side and actually over his own leg.
Heero watched Duo sleep for quite a while, admiring the other teen's innocence while he slept. His eyes traced over Duo's brow and eyes, his pert little nose. He especially lingered over Duo's lips. Even when asleep Duo's mouth was open. Heero shook his head and smiled slightly.
Easing himself into a more comfortable position, Heero stretched his arms over his head and yawned. He carefully picked up Duo's leg and moved it out of the way before opening the car door. He went into the bathroom to relieve himself, glad Duo had thought to look for a rest stop so they wouldn't have to go in the bushes. As he was leaving, he noticed something on the floor. Dark spots… kneeling down, he examined them with morbid curiosity. They were dry, so Heero had no way of knowing how old they were. /Looks like blood. Huh. Hate to be that poor guy./
Standing again, Heero walked back to the car. As he opened the door, soft music came spilling out. Sitting down, he saw that Duo was awake and fiddling with the radio.
"Hey man, just tryin' ta find something that won't scrape your ear drums. Even I think it's too early to be listening to the harder stuff." Duo pointedly ignored the fact that the sun had just set. He settled on a smooth jazz station and pulled the car back out onto the street as Heero leaned back again.
Allowing his eyes to droop, Heero watched Duo drive. Duo was rambling about finding a place to stop and eat, when the music was cut off by a woman with a no-nonsense voice.
"This just in. A case of murder has been found earlier today at the home of one Kaori Yuy, the victim being her boyfriend, Jack Donahue."
Heero tensed, eyes darting towards Duo.
"Mr. Donahue's cause of death was reported to be by a head injury, details pending. The suspect of the murder is Heero Yuy, Ms. Yuy's son. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and police are combing the area for clues on his whereabouts. Heero Yuy is 5'3" with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Last seen wearing blue jeans, a green tshirt and yellow sneakers; Heero Yuy is to be considered highly dangerous. If you see this boy, please contact the authorities immediately. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program."
Duo had yet to look at Heero, though he knew the other teen was watching him carefully for a reaction. On the outside, Duo acted as if he hadn't been paying attention the what the newswoman had said. Inside however, was a different story. He was mentally jumping for joy at the thought of having found a kindred spirit, someone with whom to share the victims with.
Heero watched as a smile grew slowly on Duo's face. When Duo turned to look at him, there was an odd light in his eyes. Heero shivered.
