Taki-Nobori: Chapter 5 - Gyoshi
By: Liz a.k.a-Kochiyami
(Third Person POV)
The rest of the school day ended in a daze for Duo. All he could think about during his last two classes was that guy, Trowa, and how much he unnerved him. He didn't even remember what his last two teachers talked about because of his pondering mind. I can't be doing that! He chided himself while he was walking down one of the many hallways in the school. Those damn teachers already dislike me! I have to stay focus and pay attention.
It didn't take long for him to reach his destination, his locker. He quickly grabbed his books he received during the day and closed his locker solemnly. His good mood had long ago diminished into a small, barely visible, grim expression; no one without a trained eye would see even that slight emotion pouring from his mask.
He walked through the halls more closely to the front of the school slowly he started to dazed off into nowhere; Just thinking of nothing; all blank. As he got closer to going outside the school, there were a lot more students around; presumably waiting for rides or just lolly ganging around. He wasn't that far away from the entry hall before he felt himself bump into someone just slightly, causing the said person to turn around. He looked at the person, and in an odd side note, his brain noted that this person looked familiar.
"I'm Sorry. I wasn't pay attention, I didn't mean to-" However, before Duo could finish, he was interrupted.
"Hn, baka. Watch it next time." And just as short of a response Duo had received, the boy who Duo now recognized as `Heero', was gone just as fast.
"What enormous speech skills." Duo quietly said to himself, sarcastically nonetheless. He made his way quickly outside the school, and went to stand near the pick-up entrance. Kyomi was nowhere to be seen.
The pick-up entrance was bursting with energy, there was loads of students waiting for their rides; sitting, talking to friends or just plain grumbling about their rides being late.
He looked around for somewhere he could sit and upon finding one, he trekked his way towards it. He made it there in just few short seconds, instantly sighing from the long day and hoping that Kyomi would be there to pick him up soon.
However, his small wish was not to come true, as he'd hoped. It wasn't until 4:22 that Kyomi's Black BMW made its way into the school's entrance. Duo grumbled angrily about late guardians and having to wait for so long.
He sighed as he sat down with a `thump' in the backseat of the car. He did not wish to talk right now, especially after having to wait for so long for Kyomi to show up.
"Sorry `bout that Duo, things kind-of got chaotic at the studio." She said tiredly. "I did plan on coming way earlier." She turned around slightly to look at him, her face clearly showing her exhaustion from stress.
"It's okay Kyomi… I just wished you'd come earlier…" Duo said as he smiled slightly at her to show her some reassurance that he was not mad at her and that he understood.
Kyomi smiled a bit, happy that he wasn't angry about such the long wait. Then as if a light bulb had gone off in her head, her smile widened evilly and upon turning back to face forward she popped one of those usual `parent questions'.
"So…How was school?"
Groaning at such a lame question that every parent asks' on the first day of school, Duo grumbled out how his day went.
……………………
The next day started off just fine for Duo. He was already settling into the new routine quite nicely as he made his way to school with lots of time to spare. As he walked he whistled lightly, quite contented about nothing at all. However, just as he stopped at one of the last three crosswalks on the way to school, he felt an uncomfortable ripple of goose bumps run all along his skin. I feel something… he thought, almost as if someone's watching me.
With that thought, he looked around quickly to try to find anyone or anything of suspicion but with little success. Taking that as a good sign that nothing peculiar was wrong, he continued on his way towards school. However, that uncomfortable feeling never once left him.
…………………
The end of first period and already it felt like forever to a sprawled out Duo Maxwell currently laid across his desk trying to listen to all that was being said on the intercom for the daily announcements. Trying was a loose understatement.
"And so, the club meetings that will be held today to invite new members for the year are…"
Droning on and on… apparently Duo wasn't the only one having trouble listening to the announcements. The teacher had `accidentally' dosed off a minute ago due to the sheer boredom.
However, just as Duo was about to dosed off himself, he felt that feeling again… that cold, unbelievably uneasy feeling.
Where is it coming from? He thought, his body sending off another shiver as it intensified slightly. Who or what…?
Moreover, just as soon as that cold uneasy feeling started, it fleeted him just as fast. He sat eerily still as he tried to gather his wits together to somewhat figure out what just happened. The bell rang once, then twice before he ever realized he was extremely late.
………………
He was watching carefully so he wouldn't be suspected or caught. He hadn't found a watch subject since his freshman year. Why did he do these things? It was just a mystery to him as he was normally a secluded person, always minding his own business.
The last person he watched so intently, so precisely, caught him while he was doing it. He was quite surprised as it was that same person had been watching him as well.
He could remember that day so vividly, the way he was shocked beyond his wits that he was caught. He was one of the best spies ever. Trained to by his own stepfather the secrets of spying and observation of human reactions, psychology, habits and intelligence. Therefore, when he was caught in the process of watching his chosen observation item, he was highly impressed with the other.
That same person became his best friend for the past eleven years. He didn't mention it much or rather at all, but his best friend was his most prized person in his life. He didn't intent to lost him either.
Nevertheless, He was doing it again. He was watching, staring, observing. He couldn't help it; it was too much an overwhelming urge to watch this one person as much as he could. To learn about them, to study them and to just understand them most of all.
He couldn't stop himself from falling further into his own web.
…………………
Finally, it was lunch, oh how Duo longed all day for this one moment in the school duration. He was a lot more focused now and was quite happy too (besides the annoying voice in his head saying he already got detention on the second day of school for being late to second period). As he walked along the corridors to enter the lunch area in the middle of the school, he felt a sudden pull along the right side of his jacket. Turning sharply at the tug, he was met with onyx eyes and a smile.
"WuFei! Glad to see you found me, I most likely would have never found you out there." Duo stated as he pointed to the vast lunch area the school had. "C'mon, I wanna get some food before it's all gone." WuFei just nodded in agreement and hurried along with Duo.
Once they had successfully claimed their lunches and found a decent spot near the trees in the lunch area, they animatedly talked happily. They didn't notice the stares or the sneers in their direction. They never noticed the people whispering while point at them or the people scowling at them with malicious intent. The didn't notice anything, as they were so absorbed in what they were discussing that they didn't notice the group of older boys hovering over them until one of them kicked WuFei's lunch from his lap to only end up all over him.
"Hey! What are you guys doing?" Duo scolded with his merciless scowl. "You owe him a fuckin' apology you assholes!"
However, Duo's angry demands had little effect to the group of boys cluttered around WuFei and Duo. Upon seeing their little reactions of only smiling wider and sniggering a bit, Duo was fuming.
"Well, well… if it isn't Fei-kuns and his new girlfriend." The tallest one sneered. He took a good look at WuFei and spat at him with a "Sputtte" sound while his minions chuckled idiotically. "'Fei, I've got to hand it to you. How in the world could you catch such a lovely thing?" As he said that, he reached down to grab Duo by the arm with a hard grab and tug which sent Duo angrily cussing out his surprise.
"What the fuck!" Duo said fiercely. "Let me go or else-"
"Or else what?" the boy said. "What… you expect `Fei here to help you out?" By this time, a crowd had gather around them, nosy about what all the commotion was about.

Heero was absently listening to Wesley talk about some game or another she had just recently gotten obsessed with when he saw her. He watched as she walked along with some Asian kid, someone he had to find out about. He watched as she and her newfound friend made their way towards the oak trees at the right edge of the lunch area, and continued on watching as they sat and talked almost joyfully. What about however, Heero was quite interested to know.
It seemed to be all and good for those two until the bakayaro gang (as Heero calls that group of older students.) showed up and started to pick on them. Heero continued to watch as they harassed both the Asian kid and the chestnut-haired girl.
Heero couldn't allow it any longer.
……………………
(Trowa: First Person POV)
I didn't believe it as I watched Heero walk towards the group causing the commotion in the right edge of the lunch area. He's never done something like this before. All of us (Wesley, Charlie and I), observed as Heero plowed his way through the crowd and seemly demanded for the `Bakayaro Gang' to leave those two alone. As we looked at the girl and the Asian boy she was with, I noticed that they were both all roughed up. The girl looked to be humiliated as she clutched onto her clothes were there were rips and tears from her struggle to get free from the taller, older boy's grip. The Asian boy however, was dripping in his own lunch with a few bruises and cuts all along his face and exposed parts of his body.
I continued to watch as I saw Heero help out both the girl and the boy and started to bring them both to our table. I noticed how he looked straight at me, almost signaling to come and help him out. Understanding, I nodded and met them to take the Asian boy and we both started to take them to the nurses' office.
All the while, I looked at Heero and his body gestures as he helped the girl with chestnut hair out. I couldn't help but realize that Heero was intently staring at her, looking at her closely and carefully. Almost like how he used to do once to me a long time ago.
Cold at first, then the most comforting warmth
and then a can't-live-without feeling that anyone would want…
