Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Thank Heaven For Little Girls ❯ One-Shot

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

GW and its characters don't belong to me but to Sunrise/Sotsu Agency etc. etc.

Okay, no lemon, no angst just major, major sap, this really is a reason to go to the dentist. This fic is more about Heero, but he is married to Relena so I think it counts. This fic I think is a little choppy in some parts and the flow is off so I apologize for that.

Even though I think the song is a little out of context I used it anyway, it's Thank Heaven for Little Girls. It's from the Broadway musical GIGI and that show belongs to whoever penned it.

Heero holds his wife's hand as they view into the monitor watching their unborn child sucks its thumb and arch its back.

"Well, it appears," the technician begins, "that you'll soon have a healthy baby girl."

Relena's eyes well up a little with tears. "A girl? Did you hear that Heero? We're having a daughter."

Heero smiles thinly a certain joy surging through him like no other. "I'm sure she'll be as beautiful as her mother." He kisses Relena's forehead and squeezes her hand.

Three months later their daughter is born. Heero swears she looks just like Relena; he's as proud as any papa could be. His little girl, a pride like no other. They name her Lea.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been two years since the birth of Lea and Heero and Relena are once again expecting another child and once again they are getting an ultrasound. "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Yuy. It seems you're going to have another little girl.
Relena sighs. "Oh Heero, I was so hoping we'd have a son this time."
Heero hugs his wife around the shoulders. "You know it doesn't matter to me. She'll be just as smart and pretty as her mother and sister."
Five months later, as was before, another daughter is born to Heero and Relena. They name her Alyssa. She looks just like her sister and mother. Heero's is so ecstatic that he even ignores Wufei's smart remark about him having no sons. The Chinese man continues on about how he has sired 5 boys with Sally, because that a strong man like himself, simply does not father females.
Sally is standing next to him and covers her face trying not to laugh. She's not letting on that their sixth child is a girl. She's going to let Wufei faint out of pure shock right their on the maternity room floor on delivery day.
3 1/2 years later, yep you guessed it; the Yuy's are expecting another child. This time the stubborn fetus has its legs crossed; Relena laughs and says it must be a boy to be as stubborn and anti-social as her husband. So, the expecting couple has no idea what they will have until the day the baby arrives. This time Heero does have high hopes for as much as he loves his daughters a part of him would like a son, though deep down it really doesn't matter.
Well the fateful day arrives and its no surprise to anyone, that yes, once again it's a girl. Heero sighs and smiles big and wide. Another girl, but hey, this one actually looks more like him. They name her Kara. So the Yuy family consists of five; Heero, Relena, and their daughter's Lea, Alyssa, and Kara. Heero's pride and joys, his three little girls.
//Thank heaven for little girls//
It's a spring day and the Heero is having a picnic with his family out by the pond on their estate. Lea, who is eight and a half, and Alyssa who is six have quietly snuck up on their father while he naps under a tree and have woven tiny daisies all through his hair, Relena watches in silent laughter and when Heero awakes and realizes what has happened he tells his daughters they've done a fine job on stealthily infiltrating the territory and achieving their goal; of course he was aware the entire time of his daughter's antics.
Three year-old Kara just looks up at him and crinkles her nose. "Daddy looks dumb with flowers in his hair" ah, Kara, ever as blunt as her father.
A few years down the road Lea is thirteen, Alyssa is ten and a half and Kara is seven. Heero wonders about his oldest girl when she comes home from school one day looking all starry-eyed and sounding giggly.
At dinner she tells her mother and father about this boy Ryan she met at school. He's fourteen and her chem. partner. "Oh mom you should see him he is soooo cute, he has the greatest smile and the greenest eyes."
Relena giggles and tells Lea how wonderful it is. Competitive Alyssa announces that she's interested in a boy at school too while Heero chugs down his glass of water to prevent himself from choking on the piece of beef brisket that just got caught in his throat. Though he relaxes a little when little Kara looks up at him and states. "Boys are icky-yuck!"
Later that night Relena senses Heero's uneasiness. "Don't worry Heero. It's a puppy love crush. Besides, did you think they'd stay little forever? And remember. You'll always be their daddy, and no other boy, or man, can ever replace you."
//For little girls get bigger ev'ry day//
Okay, now a few more years have passed and sixteen year-old Lea is getting ready for her junior prom, while thirteen and a half year-old Alyssa watches with envy and ten year old Kara is playing Assassin Eleven on her video game machine.
Though a little nervous, Heero is still absolutely taken away when he sees Lea descending down the stairs in her sea blue shimmering gown that makes her eyes of the same color, sparkle even more. The front part of her ash gold hair is pulled up off her shoulders into ringlets. Heero almost wants to cry, thinking of how much she really looks like her mother. He goes over to her and kisses her cheek telling her so.
There's a knock on the door and Heero growls a little realizing it's her date; he opens the door.
"Hey there Uncle Heero!" The brief greeting ends as the young man sees Lea. "Wow Lea! You look great chici-mama!"
Lea giggles and takes his hand looking Camden up and down. "You look pretty hot yourself."
The conversation is interrupted when Heero's abruptly clears of his throat.
"Yea, yea, Uncle Heero. She'll be back safe and sound by 12:30. Catch ya dudes later." He waves briefly as he and Lea exit the door.
After they leave Heero hangs his head feeling a headache coming on, wondering how, out of all the boys to start dating she would have to choose Duo's son. He feels Relena taking his arm and as she kisses his cheek, she whispers in his ear. "She looked absolutely breath taking tonight, didn't she Heero?"
Heero takes a deep breathe and smiles, "Yea, she sure did. The curse of having three beautiful girls, the guys will always be there."
He hears Kara laugh and as he looks at her. "Not me dad. I'm never getting involved with any stupid guy. They're nothing but trouble."
//They grow up in the most delightful way//
"Are you sure you have everything?"
"Yes dad. I'm sure. You've only drilled it in my head how important it is to be prepared my entire life."
Heero crosses his arms. "Well college is important Lea. You might be nineteen, but your still young and have to be careful."
"Don't worry daddy. Cam will be there with me. You should see the cute little apartment we're renting together off campus. I'm so excited about finally getting to live with him."
Heero kept silent but inside chagrined, but then what could he say? Him and Relena lived together before they were married.
Sixteen and a half year-old Alyssa steps in the room. "Will ya let her go already dad. I've been waiting forever to get her out of the house."
Lea sticks her tongue out at Alyssa who does the same to her in response. Relena then walks in with thirteen year-old Kara, who is sporting another trophy.
Kara, unlike her sisters', has always been the tomboy, the fighter and the tough girl. While her sisters were in pep and cheerleading she was playing the actual sports. He roughs her dark brown hair playfully and picks her up in his arms, looking into her Prussian blue eyes; his baby girl. "The trophy's finally come in have they?"
"Yep. First place again dad."
"As usual." He boasts proudly.
She then jumps down. "I gotta get ready daddy, Brian's gonna be here and mom says you can drive us to the mall to meet with some other kids before dropping Lea off at the airport."
Heero cocks a brow. "Ah, yea." He looks over at Relena dumbfounded as Kara disappears up the stairs.
Relena bites her lip. "Oh yea, Brian. He's ah, Kara's new, ah, guy friend."
"Guy friend?"
Before Relena can respond Alyssa races back in the room. "Yea dad. Can you pick me up some tampons at the store and the pharmacy called to tell me my birth control prescription came in, so could ya get that as well?"
Heero's temples throb as he suddenly feels the loss of blood to his brain, the next second he sees total darkness as he passes out thinking, where did my innocent sweet little girls go?
//Those little eyes so helpless and appealing//
//One day will flash and send you crashing//
//Through the ceiling//
Heero looks in the mirror and straightens his bowtie. He checks briefly the hair at his temples and how the once dark brown is now turning gray, he never thought he get old but die young in battle, hell, he never thought he marry and have children either, let alone be giving away his oldest daughter on her wedding day.
Lea was twenty-five now and had graduated with honors and bachelors in computer science and soon was to start a new career in the technical facilities of the Preventers headquarters.
Camden had opted to study Law and was in his first year making his way up the ladder of a prestigious firm. Duo joked that at least in law a Maxwell's' big mouth would come in handy for something.
Alyssa was twenty-two and a half and was in her senior year studying medicine and seemed to have a different boyfriend every week. And little Kara was now 19 and opting to join the military a couple of years before college so that one day she could become a Preventer just like her dad.
Heero stopped in to see Camden briefly. His usually cool exterior was a little shaky. Duo was beside him trying to calm him.
"It's not as scary as it seems son, once it's done it's over with and if your smart you'll realize how lucky you to have the girl ya got and you'll never have to go through it again."
"Your logic still amazes me Duo."
Duo turned around, his smile was still youthful and his hair still as long and dark as always denying he had ever colored out the gray. "So buddy. Whatcha think huh? Pretty soon me and you will officially be in-laws."
Heero narrowed his eyes. "They say a father will do anything to make their children happy."
Duo shrank back. "That's low man."
Heero smiled. "I'm only joking. I'm glad actually, at least I know who I'm dealing with."
They turned to look at Camden who suddenly started hiccupping from nerves. Duo patted his son's back and held a small paper bag to his mouth telling him to breath; he laughed. "Women. They drive us men nuts don't they. Hard to believe they start out so innocent."
Heero smiled politely leaving to see his daughter a final time before she would not longer be a Yuy. He tried his best to swallow tears. "Yea Duo they do start out so innocent."
//Thank heaven for them all no matter where//
//No matter who//
//Thank heaven//
Heero sat in the porch swing of the gazebo, the cool summer breeze mussing his now almost gray hair. He was watching Relena from a distance who was knelt down on her knees, attending to her flowers as she always had. Her hair was almost as gray as well, though the lighter coloring made it hard to tell at times.
Her form was still willowy and slender. She looked over at Heero and waved at him, he could see her smile, especially in her eyes. He was amazed at how much love he still felt for her after all of these years together. The alarm on his watch went off and disrupted his thoughts. He called out to Relena that the girls would be here at any moment.
She left her gardening tools right then and there and joining him they went into the house to already see that their daughters and their own families had already arrived.
The briefly exchanged hugs and kisses. Lea and Camden had two boys of their own while Alyssa had married and divorced twice, was on her third husband and all in all had three sons of her own. And Kara, well, she was married also, to a fellow Preventer who happened to be Quatre's son Hartmen and they were expecting their first child. What Heero had not gotten with Relena he had gotten with his daughters, Five grandsons, all strong, all handsome, of course he would be the first to admit he was partial. But, still he felt he was missing something.
After they had all eaten and went to bed, Heero found himself awake at three a.m. in the morning. He walked down to the kitchen to get himself some leftover pie, but before he could take his first bite, Lea, showed up, followed by Alyssa and Kara; they all sat down at the table to finish off the pie.
Heero looked around the table studying his girls. All were successful, well, Alyssa had always had man trouble, but besides that they had all made a notch for themselves and were positive members of society, they were independent and strong children that any father would be proud of.
They chatted for about an hour and then Lea and Alyssa decided to retire, leaving only Heero and Kara.
"Oh by the way daddy. Did I tell you? Me and Hartmen are having a girl."
She tilted her head staring at him as a few tears escaped his eyes, for it had been vary rarely her father had showed so much emotion.
Heero found that no words could come to him as he embraced his youngest child, the one he had probably been closer to than the others, for she was giving him the one thing that he knew had been missing from his life, a granddaughter.
