Lloyd: We're keeping are conversation's short.
Jim: Yippie.
C-Chan2: Read and like people.
Violet eyes glared at the back of the old man, who walked back and forth showing some rich woman his pick of young boys. The man had already displayed him, but although the woman found him tempting, the fact that he threatened to bite her made her decline. He had woken up in cage a few hours after he had fainted. The locks were impossible to pick and the man had his eye on him more than he did the other slaves. Looking up as the woman walked off with her new slave in tote, he rolled his eyes.
She'd chosen a measly looking boy, who most likely was stolen off the streets. He could sense the boy was an orphan; no one would miss him, less much care what happened to him. None the less, the life of slavery was fit for no one, let alone for Death's own son. He turned to look at the sound of sobbing, his eyes catching the black hair of a little girl. She had been caught only an hour ago and had been sobbing for her mother ever since then. The noise was annoying, and he could only pray that she would shut up.
As her tear-streaked face looked up at him, he found his heart clenching. Flashes of the little girl's face from the village he had left behind raced through his head, and he found himself reaching a hand into her cage, to stroke the ebony locks. She whimpered and pulled away, backing against the farthest side of her own cage. He had never talked before while he was human, but he found that he needed to say something.
"W-what....wrong?"
He had stumbled, it was new this talking. Other shadows had talked, but he had never tried.
Wide brown eyes stared back at hi, and silence was his only answer. She was scared; of the situation she was in and of him. She knew what he was; all children had a sense of knowing. He'd just have to try and show her, he wasn't as bad as she thought. Hearing the old man talking to some new costumer of his, he ignored him, smiling at the girl.
"What's your n-name?", he asked, getting the hang of his voice, liking the fact it didn't sound like his father's.
She had stayed silent, sniffling in the corner.
"I bet you're name is Katherine.", he said with a grin, "Am I r-right?"
"How'd you know?", she asked in a small whispered voice, "Are you an angel?"
He shook his head and shifted closer to the bars.
"Shadow.", was his single answer.
"A shadow?"
He nodded.
"It has to be our secret okay?"
Her head bobbed up and down and she slid closer.
"What's your name?", she asked, now interested.
Shrugging, he turned to look at the old man.
"You see him?", he asked pointing, "If I tell you, you can never tell him."
Her head bobbed once again and she sat waiting, wide brown eyes staring at him in awe. He leaned forward and signaled for her to do the same.
"My name to other's like me is Shinigami, but you can call me what my father named me. My given name is Duo."
Smiling up at him, she giggled and soon enough the two were soon laughing and talking like friends.
It was in early afternoon when the girl had fallen asleep, that Duo had heard the trills of horses. A glance up earned him to catch the colors of red and purple; royal colors. Another knight or lord coming to find a young girl to outlive their utter most fantasies. Scoffing he turned away uninterested. It was bad enough he was in some cage like some damned bird, he didn't care to watch men or women choose innocent men, women and children for the most sinful of acts.
The old man sat at his desk, unawar that he had customers. He didn't have an inside office, everything was outside. He used an old table as a desk. It was only by chance that he looked up from his paperwork, and the old man found himself standing from his seat. Mumbling something he quickly walked around before going on hands and knees.
"Your majesty.", he gasped, Duo rolling his eyes at the display, "What do I owe the gratitude of your presence?"
Duo looked over at the three on horses. Which one was he talking to? The one with the funny looking hair or the one who seemed to be angry with everything?
"Stop your groveling peasant.", one of the three men said with a snare, "His majesty's birthday is tomorrow. Lord Trowa and I are here to buy him whatever he chooses."
Duo leered at this man. What was his problem? It seemed like someone needed to knock him from his high horse; no pun intended.
Bowing again, the old man stood, smiling a not so pleasant smile up at a chocolate haired boy. Blue eyes watched him in disinterest. What was there that this old bastard could offer him? These scraggly looking slaves didn't look as if they were even worth two coppers. He had many slaves, and none of them he found much interest in. No matter how much he told Treize that a new slave was not always the answer to his problems, the man insisted.
"Your highness, may I have the honor of showing you my best women-"
"Your king has no interest in women.", Treize interrupted.
"Treize, I can answer for myself.", the king said abruptly, "I have no interest for women old man, I have enough of them in my court. Show me a boy worth being a slave for a king."
Gulping the old man looked back at the hanging cages. He had many boys, but none fit enough for the king. They were beautiful yes, but. . .maybe. . .yes. His eyes caught site of Duo and he cackled to himself. He knew that boy would be good to him. Cackling even louder, he turned back with a bow.
"If his majesty would be so humble as to follow me, I'll show you a slave fit for a god."
Turning to meet the green eyes of his step brother, he climbed off of the horse, following the still cackling man. Duo felt them walking towards him, but he chose to ignore the two, continuing to look down at the sleeping girl. The old man grabbed the chain that connected to the collar around Duo's neck, and pulled on it harshly. Duo went flying forward. He glared up at the old man and then jerked back on the chain, causing him stumble.
"Here is your slave.", he rasped, looking to the young man he called his king, "He's beyond beautiful isn't he? I'm sure he's not even human."
Blue eyes stared back at the scowling face before traveling over the lithe body. He had never seen a slave like this, he'd never dreamed of anything this beautiful. The old man was right, he wasn't human. What was he? An angel?
"Does this boy please you?", the old man asked, "He's young in age, strong in body. I'm sure he could withstand a good bedding or two. Fit for a god, don't you think?"
His majesty's eyes never left the body in front of him; he was mesmerized. He looked up into glaring eyes and found he couldn't leave them. He'd pay any price, just as long as he had this slave.
"I see you've found one to your liking, Heero. Would you like him?"
Turning back to the banged man, he gave a nod, walking back to his horse.
"That's the one I want, Trowa.", he said climbing onto his horse, "Pay whatever he asks."
As the man cackled, Duo growled, catching the attention of all the slaves and the three men on their horses.
"How dare you put a price on my head, human!", he cried, the old man just merely watching him, "I'm not some animal! I will not be a slave! Not to you and especially not to some incompetent brat, royalty or not! Now you let me go this instant or else-"
His words were stopped as he found Heero and his horse were now standing in front of his swinging cage.
"You dare speak when you aren't told?!", he asked, then turning to the man, "I thought this was a slave fit for a god. Does that not mean he is already trained to behave as a proper slave?"
The man struggled to find words, hands fingering the chain that was held in it.
"None the less, I'll train him to my own satisfaction. Name you're price."
Giving his rotted and near toothless grin, the old man cackled.
"Three bags of gold.", he spat out, jerking Duo forward again, "Slaves like this one are awfully rare."
Scoffing Heero looked back to one of the two that accompanied him.
"Give the old bastard his money.", he said turning back to Duo, "And then, bring my new slave. And remember that this one is mine, Treize. You do not harm one single hair on his head."
Nodding, Treize watched as the young king and his brother rode off back into the town square. He looed up at the young slave and he found that Heero was lucky. He would do anything for that boy to be in his possession. Yet alas, he had a slave of his own that he was quite satisfied with. Taking out three small bags of gold, he threw them at the old man.
"There's your money, now give me the slave."
Hugging the bags to his chest, the man unlocked Duo's cage door, handing the chain over to Treize.
"Here you are, Lord Treize.", he said with a laugh, "Make sure his majesty beds him to break him. He's a rebellious one."
Smirking, Treize looked down at Duo who only glared up at him. "Don't worry. I have one just like him myself. If Heero's not able to break him, I will."
Feeling the tug on his neck, Duo stumbled forward, landing ungracefully on the ground. Not even caring if the boy stood or not, Treize started to ride his way in the same direction as the others. Struggling to get up from the choking drag, violet eyes looked up to meet now wide awake brown eyes. When he escaped, he'd have to come back for her. He couldn't leave her here, she didn't deserve this.
He was dragged through town for the rest of the day, stopping only when the king saw fit to. By now, his legs were cramping and his feet hurt more than they ever had. He hated being human.
His wrists that were bound were now sore, and he was as thirsty as hell. The king and his men had left him outside tied up with the horses. They sat in an inn probably getting drunk off of their asses. He sat on the ground and sighed, trying once again to find a way out of his binds. It would be nightfall in a good hour and he wanted to escape before dark. To find a way home and return into his original form. He had to get away from these humans.
He stopped, head hung as he found the bindings impossible to break. He'd never get home after all. Shouting from the building across from him made him look up in time to catch site of a boy being chased by what seemed to be two guards. He had to say the boy was fast, agile, smart too. He looked normal, yet he sensed something else.
Smirking as the boy managed to make a guard fall on his backside, he looked into ebony eyes. Wait. . .ebony. He knew only one race that had those eyes. Some type of reptile maybe? He couldn't remember. The slave collar on his neck showed that he wasn't just any slave, he belonged to someone at the palace. It couldn't be the king, he knew the king's own marking by now.
The boy stopped to watch back at him, and Duo raised an eyebrow in question. Why was everyone so amazed by him? Seeing a guard sneak up behind the boy, he went to call out but found he was too late. The boy was struck on the head, falling to the ground in pain.
"What's the meaning of this!", a voice barked from behind.
He looked back to see Treize's blue eyes glaring over at the two men, who now held the boy up.
"My Lord, your slave tried to escape again.", one of them quickly mumbled, "We managed to capture him though and-"
"Leave him and head back to the palace.", he ordered, the guards doing just that.
Treize eyed the boy, moving closer with a hungry gaze running over his now sweat glistened body, or at least what showed of it.
"Wufei, my dear boy.", he began, a hand reaching out to run through loose ebony strands, "This is the third time this week. Do I have to punish you daily to keep you from trying to flee? You've been my slave for years, and you've never escaped once. Why do you insist on trying?"
Wufei said nothing. His eyes were cast straight ahead, his face as stoic as ever.
"I have in my right mind to teach you a lesson right here.", Treize whispered as he moved closer to him, "But the privacy of my own bedroom sounds much more appealing to me."
It wasn't long before the boy was chained to Treize's horse and was being dragged down the road much like Duo was. Looking up into the sky, Duo found that it was only a few minutes until sunset. Hopefully his father came for him when night had fallen. The thought of being a slave for this human made him sick. He wouldn't go along with it if it killed him. Though that was impossible.
He felt eyes on him and turned to find black eyes fixed on him.
"What?", he asked, the boy turning away.
Sighing, he was caught by surprise when he was jerked forward, falling to the ground.
"You do not speak unless you are told to.", a voice from in front called back.
He was dragged a few feet, Duo struggling to stand, eyes glaring up at colbat blue that gazed down. He managed to right him self.
"I speak when I-"
He was cut short, jerked to the ground again and dragged a bit longer this time.
"You seem to like being pulled along the road.", Heero commented turning his attention away from Duo.
"Heero, my I remind you that if your slave is hurt, he's of no use to you."
Treize glared over at the green eyed man. The man didn't know what he was talking about. The more you hurt the slave, the more they'd learn to obey. Trowa was the only one of those who owned slaves to treat his as if he were some sort of lover. It was more than nauseating.
"What would you know, Trowa?!", he snarled, glare still fixed on him, "To punish your slave, is to show him that he's owned. He must obey your every command and do your every bidding. If they refuse, they must be punished. It teaches them the proper ways of a slave."
"Yet it hasn't worked on your own.", Trowa replied calmly, riding ahead.
Duo snickered to himself, as he watched Traize glare at the man's back, and he found himself already liking Trowa. Even if he was sure the man had a slave of his own. He looked up at the sky, noticing it had long turned night. He smiled as he turned towards the surrounding forest, searching for his father. . . shadows. . . anything. There was nothing; it was empty. He stopped in disbelief as he continued to stare into the shadows of the trees. There was nothing still, they hadn't come for him. His own kind. . . his own father. Why hand't they come for him?
"Slave, why did you stop?"
Looking up at his master with a scowl, Duo ignored him and then turned back to look into the dark forest. He saw a shadow move, but he knew it was nothing.
"Slave!"
He didn't answer, didn't want to. He felt like hitting something. Climbing off his horse, Heero walked over to the boy, turning him towards him. He had went over to scold him, but stopped as he caught sight of the welled up tears in the boy's eyes. He'd seen many slaves cry. It meant nothing to him when they did, but with this boy, it was different. Duo jerked away from Heero's touch, glaring yet again at the young king. He wanted nothing to do with this man. He didn't want him to touch him.
"Your Majesty, is there any chance that your slave will be willing do anything?", Treize asked, "The palace is only a few minutes away, drag him there if you have to."
Turning back to man that he knew as his Captain of the Guard, he made his way over to his horse.
"He'll walk.", was the only words he uttered before they were off towards the palace.
As he was pulled along, Duo looked back, violet eyes finding shadows lurking behind them. Death was no where to be seen. Without his father, he couldn't return to the underworld. Turning way, he allowed himself to be guided the rest of the way.
When they had finally reached palace grounds, Duo was toted off to the slave quarters, where he had been stripped down from his rags the old man had dressed him in. He was then shoved into a room where other boys sat quietly looking up at him, waiting to be tended to as well. Looking around he moved himself against a wall, trying his best to hide his nakedness. He sat as far as possible from the rest. They all looked younger than him, and some of them were. There were those as young as ten. Who could possibly find a boy that young so pleasing?
He scoffed in disgust and turned away from them. It wasn't long before he was dragged out of the room and thrown into a tub full of water. He was bathed and his hair washed. He would have felt pampered if it wasn't for the metal bindings that was clamped around his wrists and neck. After he was groomed, he was taken to another room, where he was quickly collared and marked with the king's own sign. He had watched as others were branded, but he was only tattooed. Wincing as his right ear was pierced, he only had time to blink before being dragged off again. He was quickly dressed in clothes that barely tried to hide anything, and then before he could breathe was sent off to another room. This time when he was thrown inside, the floor was covered in cushions, and he looked up to meet blue-green eyes and recognizable ebony.
Lifting himself from the floor, he groaned as he flexed his sore muscles. He had been man-handled the entire day. Now that he was barely being worked, he was starting to feel it. He really was starting to hate being human. He turned to the two that were seated in front of him, finding that the boy from earlier was chained to the wall as if he were some kind of dog.
::That's how Treize treats all his slaves.::
Startled by the voice, Duo turned to look at the blond who smiled up at him. Did the boy just speak to him or was he just hearing things?
/No Quatre, that's just how Treize treats me. He could care less of his other slaves./
With his face contorting in confusion, Duo looked back and forth between the two. Was he going crazy?
::You're not going crazy, we can speak to each other without actually speaking. If you were human, that wouldn't be possible.::
Nodding, Duo slowly sat, his eyes locked with the blond's who still smiled over at him.
::So Wufei, this is Heero's new slave?::, he asked, Wufei merely shrugged, ::Heero won't be changing his mind about keeping him, I see.::
Duo scoffed and looked over to the chained boy.
So why not just talk out loud? Afraid your masters will hear you?
::We're really not allowed to converse.::, Quatre said with a sigh, ::And how else can we speak privately?::
Okay. Well, Wufei is it?, he asked, recieving a nod in answer, He doesn't seem the kind to care if he's heard or not. What's his excuse?
::He can't talk::, Quatre answered sadly.
What?, Duo asked turning to Wufei, Why not?
/A slave must not speak back to his master./, Wufei began, showing the light scar on his neck, /A slave must not speak when he isn't asked to. A slave must know to endure without protest./
Endure without protest?, Duo asked in confusion.
/Raped without objection./, Wufei clarified.
::Wufei's voice box was damaged purposely when he continued to verbally disobey Treize's every command./, Quatre said with a shake of his head, /And believe me, that's not the worst that was done.::
Duo was about to question, when the door was opened, Treize walking inside. He sneered up at the man, who only smirked down at him, before walking over to his own slave.
"I see you've made acquaintances.", he said stroking Wufei's hair, the boy jerking his head away.
He turned back to Duo and walked over to him, observing the job they had done on him. His hair that had been loose before, was now held in a braid and his ear was studded with the diamond earing that marked the king's slaves.
"I do believe Heero is ready to start working on you.", he said turning back to his own slave, "If you're lucky, maybe he'll bed you tonight because if you ask me-"
"I didn't.", Duo snapped, cutting the man short.
Chuckling as he looked back at Duo, he reached a hand out to caress the scar on Wufei's neck.
"Did Wufei tell you the story of how he lost his voice?", Treize asked with a sardonic smile.
Duo turned his eyes away from the sickening man in front of him. This bastard was asking for it. He had in his right mind to pummel the man to the ground. Humans he could barely stand, but Treize he beginning to down right despise. The sound of shuffling feet outside the door pulled Duo to look up and find the two guards from earlier walk in.
"What do you two want now?", Treize asked as he unlocked Wufei's chain from the wall.
Bowing, one stepped forward.
"His Majesty, King Heero, asks that his slave be brought to his chambers."
"I'm not going anywhere near that man, let alone his-"
Duo felt his head turn violently to the side, stopping his words in mid-sentence. The stinging in his cheek was the affirmation that he had been slwpped and he looked up at a now glaring Treize.
"A slave must never speak when he isn't asked to.", he growled out, "It's time you've learned that, King's own or not. If I have to do it myself, you will be broken." With his hand now holding his smarting cheek, Duo went to jump out at the still glaring man, but he was grabbed from behind. He was soon being dragged out of the room. How dare he hit him?! Who the hell did that human think he was?! He struggled to be free of the guards' hold and he glared up at Treize. At least he wouldn't be in teh same room as him any more. He calmed considerably and allowed himself to be dragged out of the room. Treize would get his, he was sure of that.

C-Chan2: Well that sucked.

Jim: Big time.
Lloyd: What's wrong with you two? It didn't suck.
C-Chan2: Well then we'll ask the readers. What did you guys think of the first chapter? Leave reviews, man. We need them. Well we're off.
Lloyd: Bye! ^_^
