Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ The Deathbed Challenge ❯ The Deathbed Challenge ( Chapter 1 )
The Deathbed Challenge
Quatre Winner found himself yet again rushing out to a boy who'd landed awkwardly on his knee with her team of first aid officers, he quickly took command of the situation.
"Easy Joe, ease him onto it, Lisa! What are you doing?" Now that sort of ordering was just part of the job, just what he had to do, not only to keep her job, but to ensure that the athletes in his care would be back on court as soon as possible.
"It's OK Jake, just calm down and let look at your knee. I thought I told you to wear a brace! Look what happens when you don't!" He sighed; slowly massaging the knee, just like one of his teammates had taught his. Heero, that was the boy's name, Heero Yuy, lightweight Asian boy, calm and cool as ever. Quatre desperately missed that life, living together, hanging out, 'livin' it up' was what Duo, another of his old teammates called it. Duo was all for living on the edge, and somehow Quatre often got dragged into it. 'You only live once,' he kept saying, no matter what. 'It's a game!' he'd claimed one afternoon, 'the Deathbed Challenge, you gotta live like you're on your deathbed, and then you'll know you won't have an regrets!'
After he got Jake all taped up and ready to play again, Quatre sighed, he missed that game. The Deathbed Challenge. Somehow, it always reminded him of Pollyanna's Glad Game. Now, it was like he didn't have any time to take risks or have fun or take the challenge. The Deathbed Challenge. Once upon a time, his life was unpredictable, having to calm teammates, pick 'em and their confidence up off the ground, deal with homesickness, that unquenchable desire to see the solid ground again. To hear his sisters singing, off-key and out of tune, but with all their heart. Now, he had a rock solid routine, and he couldn't fight his way out of it. Although, he thought idly, seeing the new First Aid officer walk in, helping one of the newer players strap his ankles, maybe it was time to take the challenge again.
Kinda short hey? Sorry….it just…needed to be said…it may lead on, I dunno yet…
