AN: This is a ZMxLN fic, though there is some HYxRP in here, this is also a fic that revolves somewhat around Milliardo and Relena as brother and sister, and their relationship after the war.
The Fallen Dove…
By: Tenoko
The war was over, and peace ruled over the earth and space colonies, with Relena to lead them. I knew peace could reign if Relena were to continue to rule. Relena had such a heart for the people, a heart that loved, that wasn't afraid, that cared so much for the well being of others, that it made me ashamed to call myself her brother. I was nothing like my little sister, I had so much blood on my hands that I wasn't even worthy to be a Peacecraft. I didn't really know who I was anymore; I had once been Zechs Marquise, and then Milliardo Peacecraft, and back and forth as the times called, as of the moment, I was Milliardo Peacecraft, brother to the Vice Foreign Minister and Preventor's agent.
Relena… I was very proud of Relena, and all that she had accomplished and been through, knowing all that had happened to her to make her into the woman that she was today. Though in most cases the younger sibling looks up to the older sibling, in this case, I looked up to my little sister. I believed that she could do anything that she set her mind to, and that if the need every came up that she were to need me, I would be there to help her, because she had been there when I and the rest of the world had needed her most.
Since the war, Relena and I had made a plan to get together every other week or so to just keep in touch, and try to make something out of our shattered childhood friendship and sibling relationship. We usually ended up going out to eat somewhere and just talking for hours, though the first time we went out together, it had not been the most delightful evening. I had been completely unsure of what to say, and felt as though I were talking more to a stranger than my own sister, but Relena never seemed uncomfortable or at a loss for words, and so the evening went almost smoothly, considering it was the first time we had actually been together, outside of the war, in…fifteen years. I had been surprised to find out that she remembered me from when we were children, she had been so young, barely three. Noin had been a big help through it all, also. Laughing at my nervousness, and listening intently afterwards as I told her about the evening. Sometimes, I would invite Noin to come with us, and sometimes, it would just be Noin and I.
Noin and I had known each other since our days back in the academy, we had been classmates, then friends, then partners, and now… we were working on a different type of relationship. I knew Noin had cared a great deal for me back in the war, and I had always cared about her, though it wasn't until after the war, that I realized how much she meant to me, and so now.. Now we were in what you might call a relationship, though we weren't exactly dating. Noin was my salvation and savior, it amazed me what she could do with just a simple smile, and how her every movement was precise and graceful, as if she planned every step ahead of time.
It was, again, the night that Relena and I were to go out to dinner, and as I rang the doorbell to the Peacecraft mansion, which, I did not live at, I had my own apartment not far from Preventor's HQ, I felt a feeling of dread sweep over me, knowing the encounter I was about to face. Slowly, the door opened, and I found myself being glared at through a pair a cold, monotone Prussian blue eyes, partly hidden by unruly brown locks. Heero… Heero was Relena's full time bodyguard, and though I knew she was safer with him rather than with all of the Preventors in the world, I couldn't help but feel contempt towards the only person who I had never been able to beat in a mobile suit battle, or in any other form of battle, and I couldn't stand the thought that I was standing here today because he let me live, purposely not killing me when he had the chance. I didn't care if he did it because of my sister or not, I hated the thought that he made an exception for me, like letting a child win a game because you knew you would beat them if you didn't; I hated handicaps, and I hated the thought of someone sparing me, and coming as far as I had because someone let me. I glared at him,
"Is Relena ready?" He didn't answer immediately, instead, turned away from the door, opening it enough for me to enter, then calling over his shoulder,
"Yeah." I bit my tongue, and came inside, closing the door behind me. I followed him into the main living room, standing so that I could watch for Relena to come downstairs. Heero and I glared at each other from our places in the large, empty, and silent room, until finally, he broke the glare, looking at something else, with a rather softer look in his eyes, and it seemed as though a smile tugged at his lips, turning I saw what had caught his attentions so easily… Relena. She was making her way downstairs, wearing a sophisticated summer dress, it was a pale yellow, accenting her feminine curves, yet it was subtle and left plenty to a man's imagination, I cut a side glare at Heero as a warning for him to not get any ideas and to take his eyes off of my sister. He ignored me; walking up to her and whispering something in her ear, though I knew it was nothing I had to be worried about, because though I knew she loved him, and he loved her, I doubted if he realized that he was in love with her, and I doubted that he showed much if any affection in her direction. But whatever he had said made her smile, and a slight blush to crept over cheeks. She looked at me,
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, Milliardo. Shall we go?" she smiled sweetly as she spoke, a genuine smile, one she gave to only those who she knew and were important to her, but I had come to notice that there was a smile that she reserved for only one: Heero. She had a smile that only appeared when he was around, it was one of love and admiration, trust and constant concern.
Love shone through her eyes when she looked at the former Zero pilot, or whenever he was mentioned. It was probably because of her that I had not killed him yet, and a scarier thought than that of him living with her (even if just as bodyguard), was the thought that I was getting use to having him around, and whenever Relena showed up somewhere, I had begun to associate Heero to her, if Relena was somewhere, Heero was nearby.
"Yes, let's go before it gets any later."

"Ah! Vice Foreign Minister! What a pleasure to see you! And what do I owe the honor of having you at our humble restraunt?" An older looking man with a French accent asked as he bustled over in our direction. Relena giggled slightly,
"My brother and I were just going to go someplace for dinner." at this the man turned sharply towards me, shock written all over his face,
"Sir Peacecraft! I had no idea you would be accompanying Miss Peacecraft! Oh, I do insist that your meals be on the house while we are in your services." he exclaimed sharply,
"Oh no we couldn't-"
"Ah, but I insist! Right this way." he replied, walking away with two menus in his hands, forcing us to obediently follow…
"So Relena, how is the life of the beloved Vice Foreign Minister?" I inquired after our orders had been taken. She let out an exasperated sigh,
"Tiring! I'm constantly drowning in paperwork, going to meetings, stopping arguments between political officials and their countries, being interviewed, signing autographs, speaking for charities, appearing for the public, giving a statement…" she paused, tilting her head to the side, "Why aren't you in politics Milliardo?" I laughed,
"No thank you. I don't have the patience to deal with half of the things that you do! If I were in your position, having to deal with those stubborn and ignorant politicians like you do, I'm afraid that an unfortunate accident would occur… if you catch my drift." she laughed slightly, her shining,
"Oh come now, I can't se you going that far."
"Hm, just ask Noin, she'll tell you, I'm not good at getting along with people like that."
"Speaking of Noin, wasn't she going to come?"
"Yes, but she had some last minute packing to do before we leave for the meeting on Mars tomorrow." I laughed slightly, remembering the look that had come over Noin's face when I had asked her to marry me, "She said she's sorry she couldn't come, she wanted to show you her ring." At this Relena giggled,
"It's about time you asked her, what was her reaction?" she inquired, leaning forward, eyes dancing with interest,
"She laughed, she cried, she said yes, and then she cried some more." I couldn't help but laugh at the memory, of course I was thrilled also, and couldn't help but smile whenever I caught her admiring the ring on her left hand whenever she thought I wasn't looking.
"Did you pick the ring yourself?"
"Yes… not an easy thing to do… no wonder women never have enough jewelry, with so many different kinds! I don't see how any of you ever make up your minds." again, Relena laughed,
"Comes with being a woman."
And thus, the evening continued, pleasantly and relaxing. I drove Relena home, and as we pulled into the drive way, I noted that she had fallen asleep, her head against the door. I smiled, remember a time when she was much small and in a much similar position, with a teddy bear wrapped securely in her arms…
Gently, I carried Relena from the car, and up to the front door, just as Heero opened it.
"Which way to Relena's room?" I asked, stepping past him, and coming inside,
"I can take her."
"I think I can manage taking my sister to her own room!" I hissed at the younger man, making sure to give him a glare that dared him to argue further. Silently, he walked up the stairs and I followed him, careful to not make any sudden movements that might jar her awake.
In Relena's room, I laid her down on the pale blue sheets, then pulled a blanket over her petite form. I stood there a moment, gazing at her. She looked so at peace when she slept, a small smile upon her face. Smiling. I would always remember her like that, smiling, no matter what, she always took the time to smile. I turned away, walking towards the door, but stopped once I realized that Heero hadn't followed me out. I turned to see what he was doing; he stood next to her bed, watching her, a small smile touched his features, but his eyes seemed sad. Slowly, her reached out, as if to touch her, but stopped, pulling back his hand, but not before his fingers tenderly caressed her hair…
It never ceased to amaze me how he continuously adored her from afar, always afraid to get near her though, as if he thought his past life as an assassin, and his blood-stained hands might somehow mar her, or damage her, while all the while (though I didn't agree) I knew she loved him and did her job for him alone, that she fought as hard as she did just for him. Two different people, from two different worlds, kept apart from the one the love by the status of their jobs and the shadows of their pasts…
