The Fallen Dove- chapter two

As I sat on the bench next to Noin, awaiting for our flight number to be called, a shadow fell over the book I was reading,

"Mr. Peacecraft?" I looked up to see a man about age twenty standing in front of me.

"Yes?" His ice colored eyes flashed,

"Hello. My name is Kenji Yoshimota, I'm from Sanc Kingdom Magazine. My card." he paused, handing me a card from his jacket. I took it, but didn't look to see what was on it, I didn't care. He was a reporter, I hated reporters. "Well, we were actually wanting to do a story or interview with you about what it's like to be the older brother to the Vice Foreign Minister. How do you feel to be on at lower status than your own sister? To be seen as less adequate or important than your sister? Why is it that when your sister has taken up the job as Vice Foreign Minister, that you hold no political position? Why have you refused the duties and responsibilities that come with the Peacecraft title? What are your feelings towards your sister's popularity, and how some people still see you as a threat to peace and to your own sister?"

"I refuse to do an interview for your magazine, or ay other magazine for that matter. My life is my own, and of business to anyone else besides myself. Bu I will tell you this: I'm very proud of my little sister. I have no political status, because I hate politics, and choose not to get involved in them. I have great faith in Relena, and her decisions, and whatever choices she makes, I will be there to support her if she should need me."

"I completely understand, sir. But if you'll forgive me, I have but one more question… There have been rumors that Miss Peacecraft is in a romantic, possibly even physical relationship with her bodyguard… a Mr. Heero Yuy. Do you have any comments on that?" I glared at him, anger bubbling to life within me.

"You'll just have to ask her about that yourself, now won't you?" I hissed. His lips curved into a sinister smirk,

"Yes… yes, I suppose I will." Taking a step back, he bowed slightly, "Thank you for your time Mr. Peacecraft. Oh and by the way…" he paused, looking over his shoulder as he walked away, "How is your sister…" he didn't wait for a response, instead, continued to walk away. I suppressed the urge to shutter. There was something about him… something cynical, dangerous, something frightening. I looked at Noin, and she offered me a nervous smile,

"I don't like him, Zechs." Our flight number was called, I stood, helping her to her feet, and keeping her hand in mine as we walked away from the bench,

"Neither do I."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~ (Relena's POV)

I rested my forehead against the cool glass of the window in my bedroom, looking out at the sky, watching the two birds as they flew into the sunset. They were so free. I envied them. There was nothing to hold them back of tie them down. No restraints. Nothing. A knock came at my door, and I moved away from the window,

"Yes?" Soft footsteps made their way over to me, standing but a few feet away,

"Relena… I need to talk to you." a cold voice replied; turning I looked at Heero,

"What is it, Heero?" He stared at me a moment, then jerked his head towards the bed,

"You need to sit down."

"Sit… down? Heero what's happened? What's wrong?" I choked out, fear washing over me. Something terrible must have happened for Heero to feel her had to tell me to sit down to hear the news.

"Just sit." he ordered, silently I obeyed. "Relena, there's been an accident with one of the shuttles going to Mars, they say it was hijacked and then made to explode…" I gasped,

"How awful! Those poor people! Were there any survivors?"

"Relena, that's not the worst of it." He paused, stepping closer, his hand going to my waist, "…Milliardo and Noin were on that shuttle." I stared at him a moment, the truth of what he'd said slowly sinking in. My head began to swim, as my knees suddenly felt incredibly weak. But even as I felt consciousness leave me, I felt Heero's strong arms wrap around me, keeping me from falling…
