Kouryuu sighed with relief as she ran her fingers through her wet dark hair. Wrapping a towel around her, she proceeded to walk from the showers out into the locker room where Quatre waited patiently as always.
"Feel better?" The bubbly blonde headed pilot asked. His usual smile plastered to his face.
Kouryuu smiled at him for the first time. "Immensely." The young woman said before tossing her towel down on the bench beside her, and opening the locker that had been appointed as hers. As she pulled on her under clothes, she tried to initiate this stranger, in some non-trivial side talk. "So, how do you know my sizes and… why am I here?" She asked once again.
Quatre simply smile. "Well, you were out for about a week, and so we were able to stock you with some necessities." Kouryuu nodded. "As for why you're here, I can't answer that. You'll simply have to wait for when-"
"The time's right. Yeah yeah I know." She said cutting him off from finishing his sentence. Glancing quickly in the mirror to make sure she looked at least semi decent and that her bandana fit correctly, she followed Quatre out of the locker room, and onto the cat walk.
Kouryuu took this time to gawk out at the Gundams, whom were being serviced as they watched. "I can't believe it… I used to sit in front of shops for hours, just watching the news channels for information and pictures of these guys, and now I'm so incredibly close, If I were to jump down, I could touch them." Her eyes were mystified.
Quatre smiled, "The more time I spend with you the more I feel you're right for the job."
His peer was about to respond when red lights started flashing, and an annoying buzzer sounded. Just then all was quiet as the captain came over the 1mc. "All personnel report to general quarters. This is not a drill."
Kouryuu looked to Quatre, and automatically reached for the weapons that were always at her side. Glancing down to see the Si not there, her face flashed with anger. The young woman lifted her head only to see the retreating back of Quatre running in the opposiate direction. "Hey you wait just a sec-"
"Oh, don't worry you'll see him again. Come with me." A voice behind her said. Getting rather frustrated, at being tossed around from person to person, Kouryuu swung around intent on wreaking some havoc. Though, as she turned around she a man.. or at least what appeared to be one. He had to be mostly machine.
"Wha…"
"Come with me. I'm Dr. J. I can explain everything to you at this time, if you'd follow me."
Kouryuu nodded dumbly in disbelief and followed the scientist to their destination. As they walked through a port, a woosh sounded behind them. A air tight door had closed. She felt the cabin pressure evening out as the bay door opened. She watched on a screen as it happened. They truly were on an immense ship. Soon enough she saw the Gundams fighting a short distance away. Though it was hard to follow. You pretty much had to follow the flashes and blurs to watch what was going on. The scientists on the other hand, were all huddled around a little machine that had wavy patterns all over it.
"Excuse me, but I believe I have been overly patient and deserve an explanation!" Kouryuu said with growing rage. Dr. J smiled and left the machine's side.
"You are quite right. Please excuse our excitement." He paused, waiting for her forgiving nod and then proceeded to continue. "Through out the past years five Gundams and their respective pilots have made incredible leaps when it comes to the war for peace. But, sadly enough we have discovered that it is still not enough. We need even teams. There are times when all the pilots are on missions. Yes there are two pairs, but that leaves one pilot with no cover. There for we decided to experiment. A basic structure of a Gundam was created. However, this time we created a special program. This program allows a prospective pilot to literally choose his weapons instinctively." He grinned with pride.
"Dr. This is all well, but are you trying to tell me that…" Kouryuu paused having difficulty forming the words. "Do you mean to tell me that I am to be the next pilot."
"If you succeed then yes, if not, then… well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it." There was silence as he allowed the new pilot to absorb the news. "All of the Gundam pilots including the staff of this ship will be responsible for your training. We are a unit here. If one does not function like one, nothing will work." Kouryuu nodded. "Chang Wufei will be responsible for your hand to hand combat. Quatre, whom you've all ready met, will be in charge of your mental stability. Being a Gundam pilot is no easy task." He paused giving her an almost fatherly glare. "Heero Yui will be responsible for your marksmanship, as will Trowa Barton. Duo Maxwell will be responsible for helping you with your Gundam. Your training with it. They all will be of course, but he will be the primary. Any Questions?"
"Well I-"
"Of course you do. But not now. You start tomorrow. Why not get some rest." And with that he turned away from her.
Kouryuu greeted with only the sight of his back now, turned and left. It was when she was walking back to her quarters when she saw the sign for simulators, making sure to keep the knowledge tucked into the back of her mind.
The door closed behind her and she collapsed on her bed, staring up at the overhead above her. She gently closed her eyes and allowed her fatigue to finally show as she slipped off into sleep.
*************
It seemed only a few hours of sleep when Kouryuu did wake and sure enough, upon looking at the clock on the desk beside her, it was only about 1:00 in the morning. The new young pilot looked up at her ceiling once more for the good part of an hour before she decided that a stroll might help her restlessness. Eagerly sitting up, she sauntered out of her quarters and down the cat walk. The ship was silent, except for the drone of it's engines, which all ready she found difficult to hear due to the fact she was getting used to them.
It was on this stroll that a particular sign jarred her memory to wakefulness. Fallowing the colored line on the wall, Kouryuu soon found herself in the simulators room. She walked up to one of the pods, and slipped in quietly.
Unsuspecting she didn't see the person walk up behind her pod and stick his head in the door, until he did it.
"Hey there, whatcha doin?"
Out of reaction, Kouryuu backhanded the face, and the figure backed out of the pod with an `ouch'.
"Oh real fair. I see." He rubbed his face, his long braid swinging out behind him. "But you might want to close your fist next time."
Kouryuu leapt out of the pod and to his side. She was about to ask if he was all right, but stopped and folding her arms beneath her breasts and across her chest, she raised an eyebrow looking at him. "Well, serves you right for simply catching people unawares. Which I must say happens rarely with me. I was simply so intrigued by the.. the sim." She covered gracefully.
The young man smiled. "Eh, trust me, Heero hits a lot harder. So, whatcha doin here anyway? Want to sim?" He asked. Then noting the slightly confused look smiled. "Oh I'm Duo Maxwell, pilot of Deathscythe Hell."
Kouryuu's eyes widened. The pilot before her was Deathscythe hells. She quickly schooled her emotions though. "I'm Kouryuu, the new Gundam pilot."
