THE KISSING DISEASE

Chapter 1 (First Kiss)
"Yes, I did it!" Hirde yelled as she ran with her arms wide open towards Duo. "I did it!" she sprang at him throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.
"Did what?" he asked.
"I made valedictorian!" she told him as she kissed him right on the lips, hard.
"That's great!" he said taking great notice of how wonderful her soft lips felt. Then, without thinking, he claimed her lips again, kissing her passionately, pulling her close.
She did the same, also not thinking. She pulled away from him and asked, "Whoa, whoa, what was that?"
Blinking at her, Duo slowly but surely came to his senses. "Oh god, Hirde I don't know?!" Duo exclaimed backing away from her, "Let's just forget it ever happened."
"O...kay..." she said in an apprehensive tone, "Because, we're just friends, right?"
"Yeah, right," he agreed with her. "We'll celebrate later, okay, call me", he waved at her while walking backwards away from her.
~Boy, Duo, what the hell's gotten into you today, buddy boy?~ he scolded himself ~Hirde's just a friend, right?~ Not wanting to realize that he never thought of her that way; like a girl, a beautiful, sexy girl. He put as much distance between them as he could, as quickly as he could; never looking back, trying to forget what that kiss just did to him.
Hirde just stood there watching him walk away, also not wanting to think about how good the kiss felt, not wanting to be disappointed that he still wasn't kissing her. ~Duo is my best friend~ she thought to herself ~he's not a guy, he's my bud~ as she turned and walked away.
Later on that night Hirde called Duo, but he didn't answer the phone. ~Just as well~ she thought to herself, she wasn't sure she could face him after thinking about him all day. Plus, she was feeling tired, very tired for some reason, "maybe it was all the excitement from earlier today," she told herself. She actually went to bed after eating some dinner around 8:00 because she couldn't keep her eyes open.
Duo was home when Hirde called, but he didn't answer the phone because he was having really wicked thoughts about her after the great kiss they had shared. He was so confused about his feelings for her, he always thought of her as one of the boys, never had he thought of having sex with her. Not that she wasn't attractive or anything, it just never dawned on him to be attracted to her.
Although he felt bad not going out to celebrate with her, she had other friends, so he was sure she had a good time without him. ~Although,~ he thought, ~I better come up with a good excuse why I didn't join her. But why?~ "I don't have to explain myself to her, right? God, things are different already! Hopefully this will blow over," Duo told himself.
For the next few days Duo didn't see Hirde at school, but, really, he wasn't looking for her either, because his mind wouldn't stop playing tricks on him about her. Then, on Friday, Duo heard from a friend of theirs that she was at home with the flu.
Anyway, that night, he went out partying with Heero and by 11:30p.m. Duo was feeling good and drunk. All he talked about was Hirde and wouldn't stop asking Heero to take him to go see her. So, to shut him up, Heero drove him over to her place only to have Miss Noin, Hirde's cousin, answer the door.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?" she asked in surprise that they were there at such a late hour.
"Issh..Hirde home?" Duo asked with slurred speech.
"Are you drunk, Duo?" Noin stated in shock as he impolitely passed by her seeking out his girl, Hirde.
"Come on in, Duo..." she gestured at his ghost, sarcastically shaking her head, "and what about you, Heero? Are you drunk, too?"
"No, I can hold my alcohol better than him, although I think he was drinking before I picked him up earlier. And he wouldn't shut up about Hirde so I brought him here to get him to stop being a big sissy-wine-bag." Heero explained.
"Mmmm..I see, well, she has got the flu," she went on in frustration at the situation.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know she was sick, I wouldn't have brought him here if I knew," Heero apologized.
"Well, come on in," she told him as she showed him in the door.
Meantime, Duo had gone into Hirde's room, "Hirde, Hirde I am shoo shoory about not hanging out with you the other night, can you forgive me pleashes you're my girl." Duo apologized as he flopped on the bed next to her, spooning her and hugging her tightly, "My girl."
"Duo, what are you doing here, huh?" she asked in a half-dazed state, but was comforted by his presence, so she snuggled into his embrace.
"Mmmm...me missed you, Hirde, you're my girl." He kept saying over and over again.
"I missed you too, Duo and yes I am your girl," she expressed. The two drifted off to sleep only to be woken up by Noin's voice.
"Duo, what are you doing? She is very sick. Come on, get out of her bed," she urged as she tried to get him up, but couldn't. "Heero, will you come in here and help me get him up, please?"
"Come on, Duo, let's go, man, before we wear out our welcome," he said as he shook him, then pulled him up.
"Alh, come on, leave me alone. I am with my girl." Duo said as he took a weak swing at Heero who was taking him out of the comfort of holding Hirde.
Heero ducked and took the opportunity to take Duo's arm, wrapping it around his neck. "All right there, buddy boy, that's enough. We're outta here."
"Oh, no, you're not! Take him into the spare bedroom, you two can sleep it off in there." Noin told him as she directed them into the hall.
"Alh man, I'm okay to drive really." Heero complained.
"Alh no you don't! I don't need you boys getting into a car accident or anything, so just buck up little camper, you're flagged for tonight." She went on shooing them into the other room and closing Hirde's door, apologizing for waking her.
"Oh, that's okay. It was nice to see him." She smiled, drifting back to sleep.
The next morning Noin and Heero tried their damnist to wake Duo from his very heavy sleep. "Duo, Duo... Duo come on its time to go home," they were both saying shaking him hard until he woke up barely.
"Oh man I don't feel so good..." Duo groaned weakly holding his head as he tried to turnover to face them.
"Well a hang over will do that ya" Noin said frustrated.
"No...I really don't feel good" Duo explained.
"Oh man your burning up" she said as she felt his forehead and cheek, "you must have what Hirde has. Let me go get the thermometer".
She left the room and Duo rolled over "alh man, I think I'm going to be sick," he got out just before he threw up into the bucket that Noin had put there just in case he did so in the middle of the night.
"Alh man that's rank!" Heero said in disgust still sitting at the foot of the bed then Noin came back in the room.
"Oh gross well at least you hit the pale, there ya go honey, feel better?" she soothed him brushing his hair back. "Here rinse your mouth out with this," she told him handing him a glass of water. He took a swig of it and spit it out into the bucket.
"Okay people, a hang over and the flu don't mix," Duo claimed in a low harsh tone.
"Yeah, yeah we know just take it easy, here lift your tongue" she agreed with him urging him to take the thermometer in his mouth. Then a few minutes later she removed it reading it aloud "you have a temp of 101 it's official you're sick!" Being the kind hearted person she was she told Heero, "the doctor is coming over later I guess he can look at Duo too. Just go ahead and leave him here."
"Are you sure?" Heero asked in concerned that now she'll have to take care of two very sick people.
"Yeah it's okay Hirde has pretty much slept the whole time so I should be fine. You can go ahead and go home before you get sick too."
"Okay but if you need anything just call me," he explained.
She showed her gratitude "Thank you Heero that's kind of you."
That was the last thing Duo heard before he drifted back into a dreamless sleep.
