Heero moved to Trowa, resting his hand on his arm to stop him from saying anything further. He cared about Duo and didn't want to see him crying over this. Once certain Trowa wouldn't pursue the braided plot, Heero moved to Quatre, looking to the door the two left through. "You are the only person that could make this better."

"What do you expect me to do?" Quatre almost snapped. All the emotions of the past few moments had drained him, leaving to defense against the anger that Trowa was nearly glowing with, nor the despair that both he and Duo were sharing.

"You have to be able to do better than what we've done." Heero said it simply, then turned and walked to the fridge, pulling out a soda. Duo hadn't been around, but they'd still kept buying the stuff. He returned to Quatre with the can, his hand extended with the offering.

Trowa watched the interaction then simply huffed and left the house through the back door. He didn't like being called a liar, especially by Duo of all people. He thought the braided pilot had more faith in him.

Quatre glanced after Trowa then took the proffered soda, popping it open and quickly chugging the entire can before handing the empty container back sheepishly. Heero merely took it, going to get another can from the refrigerator.

Duo wrapped his arms around Wufei tightly. "What if they ain't lyin man? What if is true? I dun want it to be possible Fei!" He was making it hard for Wufei to breath as he kept his grip tight around him, and his voice had slipped into a cadence none of the other pilots had ever gained the privilege to hear from him before.

Wufei didn't know what to say. He'd never known Trowa to lie before. He didn't want to tell Duo it would be okay, for he feared it wouldn't. So Wufei did the only thing he could, he listened to Duo fret, and held him.

Heero shook his head, moving though the door to the living room with a pair of soda's in his hands, then setting the cans next to the distraught pair. "It was like you dropped off the face of the planet. We didn't mean to cause this reaction." Heero's reply was Wufei turning his head away to nuzzle Duo, trying to calm the boy down.

Duo sniffled, having successfully avoided tears, and lifted his head a little. He caught sight of the cans and instantly looked around for the person who brought them. Seeing Heero, he gave the messy haired boy a feeble smile before reaching over with one hand to pick one up, the other still clutched around Wufei.

Quatre finally moved into the room with the other three, settling onto the couch a cushion away from his friends while he just watched them, feeling the emotions roiling off the pair. He could feel an overwhelming sense of anger and fear coming from Duo while confusion boiled off Wufei.

"Fei, I can't get this open with one hand man." Duo lifted the can in his hand a little, his voice more under control as he spoke. His outburst had worn him down more than it should have.

Heero sank down onto the floor in front of the sofa, watching the dramatic change of dynamics between the two. Not once had Wufei called Duo weak, and Duo hadn't taunted Wufei either. It was a confusing change.

Wufei opened the can for Duo without protest, and then the braided boy took the can back with a faint grin. He was slowly getting the grip back on himself that seemed so difficult to hang onto. "Thanks Fei babe." He turned around in Wufei's lap, releasing him, and pressing his back up against the Chinese boy's chest, only then drinking his soda.

"Your welcome" Wufei replied and kissed the back of Duo's head lightly as he draped his arms protectively over shoulders, making it so he couldn't slip out of his grasp.

"I'm better now." Duo snuggled against Wufei, well aware that the dark eyed teen feared he would get up and take his support with him. "Please, try again. I'll stay calm this time."

Quatre sighed and relaxed slightly. "Okay. We'll start from the top, what day did you leave?"

"The fifteenth." Duo thought that was a well-established fact, but he'd let him do this his way.

Quatre nodded, accepting this, then moving on to his next question. "Look at your watch, what time is it now?"

Duo shook his head, lifting his bare wrists. "Must have gotten lost in the firefight."

Wufei lifted up his bare wrists as well to find no watch before Quatre could even ask, then turned a puzzled look on Duo. "Did I take it off in the shower?"

"I didn't see it while we were in the bathroom. It might be in the bloody mess we took of though." Duo shrugged slightly looking back to the other two.

Quatre sighed, frustrated, this wasn't working out so well. "Alright, we'll try this. What time was it when you got home?"

"It was sometime after sundown last night, I'd say elevenish, right Fei?" Duo turned his head, looking at Wufei questioningly.

Heero sat back, finding Quatre's frustration slightly amusing since he had gotten basically assaulted with his own efforts before.

Wufei nodded and kissed the back of Duo's neck affectionately. "Yes... almost midnight, I think. Or... You know I'm not really sure. It was dark... that's all I remember. I was too exhausted."

"Yes, you didn't even make it past the bedroom door... I remember that. We woke up early, so it couldn't have been too late if we were that wiped."

Wufei nodded, picking through the next events of the morning. "Then we took a shower, came down to breakfast, and now here we are."

"And what day is it?" Quatre asked, trying to keep their thoughts on the situation at hand. Seeing Wufei so openly kissing Duo was making him very nervous. He was also wondering what was going on... Normally the two had loud yelling matches with each other, leaving a broken door or dish somewhere in the house. *Something must have happened in those three weeks, but what??! They are acting so strange!*

"Err... Not entirely sure, lemme think, took us a day to get there and about a day to get back so... It'd be either the seventeenth, possibly the eighteenth... We passed out in the woods so it could have been longer than a day out there, we were dirty enough for that." Duo looked uncertain about it, and glanced at Wufei, then over at Heero who was openly observing them, and lastly to Quatre.

Quatre sighed. It wasn't going at all as intended. "No. I mean, what day of the week is it today?"

"Tuesday" Wufei answered, giving ever indication he was sure of himself.

Duo turned a little. "I was almost sure it was Monday... Maybe we did lose a day out there in the forest huh?"

"I'm not sure... the compound was a least a day's travel on foot, then back here could've been another day. I was obviously exhausted when we passed out in the woods, but then when we woke up, I was even more exhausted... we must have passed out... we could've been out for a day at most. But--" Wufei continued, "Even if that were the case, it would only be Thursday."

Duo made a face as he considered that conundrum. "Really I don't know, I just remember getting nailed with that dart and going under at that complex, then waking up in the forest, I was kinda relying on you for the details."

"Yeah, after that happened, I killed all the soldiers and dragged us out. I think I passed out from exhaustion shortly after in the forest." Wufei lied without even thinking about it. Wufei wasn't even aware that he had done so, normally being as adamant about not lying as Duo.

"That kinda explains why you were so much dirtier though doesn't it?" Duo turned it over in his head. By that, he should be dirtier; not Wufei, but the thought didn't fully register. Wufei nodded drawing out a brief silence as he tried to catch a thought running rampant around his brain that Duo had inspired.

Heero looked over at Quatre, giving him a telling look as he had watched the two talk. His humor had died away. They were not entirely on the same track and he saw it.

Duo smiled at Wufei and sipped at his soda. "Thanks for getting me out then Fei, I'm glad you didn't just leave me there, it would have been a disaster to get stuck in an OZ base again."

Quatre sighed feeling very... frustrated. "Oh screw it, let's just have lunch. What matters is that you are back safe. We'll figure this out later. Where's Trowa he--" Quatre's words were cut off as he left the room in search of the wayward boy.

Heero glared after Quatre, concerned since he too was acting oddly. He was usually more observant than that... He then shook off the glare and turned to look at the pair on the sofa. They really looked like two halves of the same person now.

Wufei suddenly knocked the soda out of Duo's hands and pushed him roughly to the floor covering Duo's body with his own. It was a delayed reaction to something that had been said, but that didn't matter to Heero as he drew his gun, pointing it at the other remaining pilot. "Don't come near us." Wufei's voice was a low snarl, daring Heero to defy the order.

Duo blinked up at Wufei but was fully trusting that if he was being defensive he had a reason to be, his puzzled gaze turning to look at Heero who had carefully frozen in place upon receiving the threat. "Fei?"

"Stay down." Wufei's voice was no kinder with the order and he slowly got to his knees while staring Heero down. "Don't you dare touch him." Wufei followed the renewed command with the cocking of his gun.

"Wufei, do you know who I am?" Heero made his voice as flat as possible, not moving an inch as Wufei stared at him down the barrel of his gun.

"Who do you work for traitor?" Wufei's reply was an obvious no.

Duo did as instructed, watching Wufei with an odd sort of fascination. His gaze flicking from one to the other from where he was pushed to the floor. He hadn't felt threatened, but now he was feeling defensive as well, his cues coming straight from Wufei at the moment.

"I work for the mad five and the colonies Wufei." Heero still didn't move, his gaze flicking from Wufei, to Duo who was watching him with a slightly crazed gleam in his eyes.

"Liar. You..." Wufei suddenly blinked and then stared in confusion at Heero. "Spaghetti?" He followed the odd question by sitting on the floor, though his gun didn't get lowered. Heero raised his eyebrows at Wufei, then looked back to Duo, who had risen into a defensive crouch.

Duo started giggling the moment he heard Wufei say spaghetti, and glomped him from behind, all signs of danger cleared from his mind. "Are you hungry Fei love?"

"No." Confusion was back in Wufei's voice. "Did I..?" He pointed at himself before shaking his head slightly and just let himself be glomped.

Heero looked from one to the other, then at the gun that Wufei still had pointed at him. "Can I move yet?"

Wufei dropped his gun and tucked in back into his pants. He shrugged at Heero and just remained sitting on the floor. *What just happened?*

Duo's gaze was concerned, but he didn't say anything merely kissing Wufei behind his ear. "I think it would be alright if you were to move now Heero, He's done."

"I..." Wufei paused, not quite knowing what was going on. He simply rose and sat back down on the couch, drawing his legs up to his chest and sighing softly. Duo dipped his head, sitting back on his heels on the floor, studying the ground with immense fascination. He still felt like he shouldn't be going anywhere. Strange as it was, he knew he'd stay put until told it was all right and it didn't even seem strange to him.

Heero looked from one to the other, then stood and backed himself into one of the overstuffed chairs to wait for their other two teammates to come back.

"Duo..." Wufei noticed Duo's absence from his side and decided to remedy that. "Come sit with me."

Duo lifted his head and smiled upon hearing the request, taking that as an all clear. He then bounced up to his feet and flung himself over Wufei's lap, taking up the sofa.

To be continued.
