Notes: Emergence of some of Duo's more prominent quirks.

Begin part ten.

Wufei followed after Deathscythe, making sure that Duo's face remained on his screen, and that his gundam was within transmission distance and visible on his external cameras. He sighed loudly, pulling out some dried jerky and veggies from his compartment as he put Nataku on auto pilot while he ate.

Duo gave Wufei a bemused look, then stared brushing his mane, visibly shivering as he dealt with the knots. At first he didn't notice, but after a few brush strokes, he realized his hair was moving minutely to aid the brushing, much to his own amazement. "Fei? I think they're right."

Trowa radioed the other gundams; "They're at the house now." His voice was cold as he relayed the news. His own alarms had just gone off indicating that OZ had infiltrated their old "safe" house.

"Who's right?" Wufei asked and propped one of his legs up as he ate, and trying not to make it too obvious he was watching Duo brush his hair. It was partially his fault that Duo's hair was so messy.

"You've got to be shitting me, she went to the enemy?" Duo opened the radio band from the one on one conversation briefly, holding up a finger to show Wufei he would answer him in a minute.

Trowa shook his head aggravation obvious in his voice. "I'm not sure. All I know is OZ is there and looking for us. Damn that girl!" Trowa slammed his fist into Heavyarms' panel roughly.

Wufei frowned briefly at being put on hold...but as long as he could still see Duo that was fine. He could see his lips moving but couldn't hear what was happening. He guessed that he was talking to Trowa after the previous statement from the green-eyed shirtless boy.

Duo nodded to himself, turning off the frequency so he was just speaking with Wufei again, opening his mouth to answer the question that Wufei had asked, but not a single noise could escape him any longer. A faintly distressed expression briefly emerged as he looked at Wufei, then he frowned.

"Is everything alright?" Wufei asked seeing that expression. He put his empty veggie container away before bending over for a moment to open the compartment. "What did Trowa say?" He asked from near the floor. He closed the compartment and sat back up again.

Duo appeared to try again, opening his mouth then closing it again before a single choked off sound escaped him. He frowned even more deeply and held up a finger, pawing through his bag until he found one of the old notebooks he had and a writing instrument of some kind. He scribbled on the pad briefly before holding it up to show in the camera. ~My voice is completely gone. Trowa said the enemy is at the safehouse.~ He then took it down, barely giving Wufei enough time to read the hasty, but neat writing. Then he lifted it up again. ~I said I think they were right about how long we were gone. My hair~ There's a large inkblot where he paused. ~I can move my hair man.~

"What do you mean?" Wufei asked and leaned forward slightly puzzled. "How did Trowa know? What happened to your voice?" You can move your hair?" Wufei railed off the questions quickly to Duo before shaking his head and opening a link with Trowa, taking a few of those questions tot he person that could answer them. "How do you know?"

"Huh?" Trowa, who was trying to sleep, blinked awake, startled by Wufei who was suddenly glaring at him over the screen.

"How do you know they are at the house?" Wufei repeated himself less than patiently.

Trowa leaned back and closed his eyes again. "The alarms I set just went off, letting me know the house had been stormed." Trowa shrugged slightly. "Why do you think I took off like that? They were in the house. I'm gonna sleep now, see you at the house." Trowa leaned forward and shut the connection as Wufei nodded goodbye.

Duo sat back, watching Wufei's side of the interaction and hearing Trowa's, even as he scribbled away at his paper, waiting for attention to be shown back to him. ~My voice just evaporated. I have absolutely no sounds to me; I tried a couple times and nothing. And I can show you about the hair.~ He holds up the paper watching for Wufei's reply.

Wufei's eyes widened and he leaned back in his seat in disbelief. "Alright let's see it." He believed Duo about his voice though, he wondered why... but the hair? No way...

Duo nodded then held still, closing his eyes to concentrate. He'd just realized it so he didn't really have any control yet, but he made the freshly brushed strands lift. One eye cracked open to see if he was really doing anything at all, then he grinned at the camera as he slowly waved a lock that had been sitting in his lap. After a long moment, he scribbled on his pad again, only two words on the new line. ~Freaky, huh?~

Wufei closed his eyes and reopened them slowly as he watched Duo's hair move in an unnatural way. He leaned back again and took a deep breath, nodding slightly. "I think the others are right... Anything else?" Wufei asked nervously. If they did this to Duo... then... He shook his head roughly not even wanting to acknowledge that thought.

Duo let out a breath; his hair abruptly dropping and he raised a hand to it, quickly weaving the long strands and retying it with the hairtie, his eyes considering as he rubbed his head. Then he scribbled another set of words. ~Like this isn't enough??? But I know what you mean. If there is more... Could you tell me? I remember you acting funny when Relena came around; did I ever act strange like that? Hey, and why didn't sex hurt? I know that wasn't enough to ease the way!~

Wufei nearly blushed. "Yeah... Sorry about that..." He gathered his composure and shrugged, though he got a bit defensive as he considered the last part of what Duo said. "I did not 'act funny.'"

Duo just gave him a look, quickly scribbling the next line. ~You hid in the closet.~ He was about to raise the paper when he added to it. ~Twice~

Wufei sputtered some sounds loudly for a minute before turning them into words. "I am not afraid of Relena! Nor any woman for that matter, and I did not hide in the closet!" Wufei crossed his arms over his chest and looked off to the side, sticking his nose into the air.

~Did I say you were afraid of Relena? No. I said you hid in the closet. Now DAMN IT. Tell me if I did anything weird!!!!~ His writing was actually in much bigger letters than before too, his expression annoyed as he waited for Wufei to read it.

"You. Move. Your. Hair. Duo!" Wufei said very slowly and leaned forward at him, lifting his eyebrow, his expression clearly stating 'and that's not weird how?'

Duo waved a hand like that was negligible. ~No, I mean actions Wufei. I don't even remember how we go to the sex part. What did I do in the meantime?~

Wufei leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. "I don't know... You were walking around and then we went upstairs... And then we just starting having sex... I don't know why... It felt like something..." Wufei trailed off briefly, hesitant to continue. "Something would happen if we didn't. I just needed to be with you." Wufei sighed at the admission and opened his eyes to focus on Duo.

~You don't remember either.~ This was written slowly and clearly grudgingly. ~Ok, I can deal with that. We'll figure it out together. At least now we know we gotta pay attention.~ He then grinned into the camera. ~I needed to be with you too Wu baby. You still haven't told me why it didn't hurt. Do you carry lube around or something?~

Wufei shrugged lightly and yawned a tad. "No..." He stopped his yawn and grinned slightly. "But I think I will start to... Are you sure it didn't hurt?" Suddenly concerned, Wufei realized that Duo could have actually been hurt. It hadn't dawned on him that he hadn't actually used lube until this moment.

~Not even a little. It sure felt like you had lube~ Duo gave Wufei a searching perplexed look, as though trying to discern if he's fibbing.

"Well I didn't." Wufei said softly. He looked at his GPS locator and noted that they still had a long time until they reached their new location, sighing.

~We'll figure it out later. I'm going to sleep now.~ Duo set the pen and paper aside, rearranging his straps so he was more comfortable and closing his eyes, his braid being flipped over his shoulder to lay along his chest as he settled into the seat.

"Alright. I'm going to nap as well." Wufei's voice was quiet as he agreed tot he course of action. As he leaned back in his chair he left the window with Duo's face open, so he could open one eye from time to time to see him.

A small smile lighting his face, Duo settled back and dozed off, his body relaxing into the chair. If nothing happened, he wasn't likely to wake in the meantime since he was still so tired. It was hours later that Wufei broke into his blissful sleep.

"Duo!" Wufei yelled, pounding on the screen in front of him loudly in hopes that would help aid his effort to wake Duo. "Wake up!" He'd been staring at Duo's sleeping form and yelling for nearly 30 minutes after his alarm went off indicating they were only a few miles away.

Duo finally jerked awake, only staying in his seat as his frantic violet eyes flashed around the cockpit by the straps he was using in similar fashion to a blanket. He hadn't thought he was that tired. Duo shook his head, opening his mouth to give a smart comment for the rude awakening... Only for his face to fall when nothing came out. He then turned his attention to coming out of autopilot.

Wufei sighed and relaxed and prepared for landing. "Finally..." Grumbling under his breath, Wufei continued. "I was starting to get a little worried."

Duo cast Wufei a clearly puzzled look, though it immediately flashed into a grin as he caught Wufei's eye. He just couldn't do anything but smile around the boy, hard as he tried.

Wufei smiled in return, booting up some images in his external camera to see where he could land. There was a grove of trees in a huge space of land. He couldn't see the house from the sky, and he sighed, it being both good and bad. He didn't want to hunt through a forest to find a safe house at four in the morning.

Duo bit his lip, hunting around for his own hiding place and spinning down into a landing amid the trees, moving the hulking metal beast so that the trees gave it partial cover in the tiny clearing he chose to land in. He already knew he had a goodly length of walking ahead of him. Duo went through the shut down, giving a last wave to Wufei before closing out the window. He looked around his rapidly chilling cockpit, and pulled out a jacket, making sure not to bang his own laptop to the floor in the process, and put the black material on before re-zipping the bag and opening the hatch.

Wufei maneuvered his own gundam to land a short distance away from Duo's and forced Nataku to actually sit on the forest floor. He printed out the coordinates from her computers and put on his own jacket as he pulled out a beanie from his compartment. Ready, he shut Nataku down and jumped out to join Duo.

Duo looked over to Wufei and raised an eyebrow at the proximity, but only shrugged, pulling out the camouflage as he closed the hatch and starting to secure it over his gundam. Duo's gaze looked around for the added debris he would need to throw over top even as he shivered in the icy air.

Wufei ran over and grabbed Duo around the waist from behind and immediately nuzzled the back of his neck. He'd been on edge nearly all these past 14 hours just watching Duo and he needed to be near him, hold him, touch him these next 14 hours to make up for the loss.

Duo leaned back into Wufei, his knees weakening slightly as he felt his touch, and it was like something just flowed through him. "Wufei..." Duo halted, his eyes rounding. "My voice! I have my voice back!"

"Mmm... Good." Wufei mumbled in a barely coherent manner, smiling against Duo's neck.

Duo turned around, looping his arms around Wufei's waist. "We gotta find the safe house. I need to get a little personal with you." He accompanied his words with a nuzzle along Wufei's neck.

Wufei nodded and just kissed Duo lightly as his arms moved around Duo's waist from this new position. "Let's hurry then" Wufei's voice was a whisper into Duo's ear, he didn't care if he was tired if that's what Duo wanted. He finally pulled away from the hug and took Duo's hand, no longer embarrassed to hold it as they walked. Wufei didn't bother with a flashlight, he could see very well in the dark.

Duo didn't need a light either, actually, he felt better now that he was in the dark, all the bright lights had been making his head start to hurt now that he thought about it... Weird. Duo eventually came to a point in the forest that looked just like the rest, then just veered off to the left for no obvious reason, his face a study of concentration as he noticed something that Wufei couldn't even fathom.

"Where are you going?" Wufei asked in alarm and squeezed Duo's hand tighter, hoping to get carried along with him and not be separated.

"Safe house. It's this way, not that way." Duo looked over at Wufei, smiling slightly, but that didn't explain how he knew. Instead of saying anything more, he rearranged his bag on his shoulder.

Wufei glanced at his GPS locator for a few moments before shrugging and just walking next to Duo. Just minutes later the safe house came into view. It could hardly be called a safe house, being more of a safe 'cottage'. Though it wasn't very big, it was very isolated, a good thing for the time being. It was dark inside, with no clear lights on. Wufei held up his GPS locator again, wondering if this was the right place.

"See? The safe house! Heero picked it, not Quatre, I can just tell. Now lets see if they left us a private room in there." Duo darted forward; his ever-silent footsteps hardly even making prints on the ground as he headed up to said cottage.

Wufei stopped as they came up on the building, it was night and he was with Duo. *Deja vu...* The thought drifted across Wufei's mind as he put the device away.

Duo flashed Wufei a grin and hurried up to the door, flinging it open loudly. "We're here! Did anybody stay awake to greet us?" Duo moved through the doorway, head turning from side to side as he took in his surroundings, not telling Wufei that he led them here by smell.

Wufei shut the door behind them and looked around the small cottage, taking note that the kitchen had another back door and wide bay windows. The built in couches and small alcoves for sitting were secondary. There was also a fireplace in the living room. Wufei wondered about electricity in this far out remote location, but it didn't really matter at this point considering he was too tired to think.

Duo glanced over at Wufei again, a faint frown crossing his face. "I thought you were going to take a nap too Fei..." He trailed off, turning and wrapping his arms around Wufei's waist and dragging him down the hallway for find a room with a nice bed. He didn't remember ever doing it in a bed.

"I couldn't sleep." Wufei confessed and relaxed slightly in Duo's arms, letting himself be dragged down the hall since eager for a bed as well.

"Does that mean no playtime?" Duo nuzzled his nose into Wufei's hair, pushing open the first door and peeking in to see if it was occupied, less than keen on falling atop someone else on their way into the bed.

Wufei smiled somewhat tiredly. "Alright. I'll play with you a little..." Considering Duo's comment he suddenly frowned. "I'm sorry. I wanted to sleep, I really did... but for some reason... I couldn't." Wufei paused and stopped Duo in the middle of the room to hug him tight, burying his face into his shoulder and sighing.

Duo pulled him further into the room once he determined it was empty and set his bag down with a thump, plucking Wufei's from his shoulder and repeating the motion. "Then go to sleep my dear Wufei. I can survive without any playtime if I must."

Wufei just responded with a loud sigh, squeezing Duo in thanks. His eyes drooped of their own violition and he hoped the bed was nearby when he finally fell over with exhaustion. He hadn't slept since the last time they had walked through the forest to another safe house.

Duo sighed to himself, maneuvering Wufei onto the bed and stripping him of his shoes, then his pants and shirt, settling him under the covers nude. He then dealt with his own clothing, even pulling the tie on his hair. But he didn't bug Wufei, instead bringing his hair around front so he could figure out how to control it.

"Hey! This is my bed!" A suddenly awake and irate Trowa yelled feeling his bed suddenly settle and sat up to see a nude Wufei laying next to him and a very nude Duo sitting next to Wufei, staring at him.

Duo turned his head and blinked. "Where on earth did you come from? This room was empty two seconds ago."

"Under the covers?" Trowa offered with a sigh. "There are only three rooms in this house, and Quatre gave me a dirty look when I tried to room with him."

"Then go bug Heero, Fei passed out on me if you hadn't noticed." Duo gave Wufei a look that could only be called pouty before looking back to Trowa. "Besides, I thought you agreed to go with Heero. Is it not time for you to go yet?"

Trowa just shrugged and pulled himself out of the bed. He grabbed his own duffel and grumbled slightly about being kicked out before remembering that Heero's room only had one Queen sized bed in it as well. He smiled and shut the door behind him.

Duo shook his head and glanced around the room. "Much better. Now I get to lay awake and play with my hair while I wait for my Wufei-chan to wake up!" He moved his hands to follow his words, poking at his hair while Wufei let out a soft snore.

To be continued.
