Begin part forty one.

Heero hadn't brought a jacket, but he would live. They had to get to where they could get a vehicle. It was still a couple hours from dark, so they should be alright.

"Heero? What's your plan? Should we hike out of here? It's at least a 3 or 4 hour hike to the nearest road then probably another hour or more to a small town... Maybe we shouldn't have done this now... We won't get back until around midnight... Where is Trowa, anyway? I'm getting kinda worried about him. He's been gone all day..." Quatre shut up suddenly realizing he was babbling his thoughts out loud.

Heero moved closer to Quatre, twining his arm around his waist. "We can move faster, and it's better to go under fall of night right now."

Quatre smiled and wrapped his arm around Heero in turn. "Yes. It is. Lead the way."

Heero smirked, then did the unexpected, sweeping Quatre into his arms and taking off at a run. "Hold on."

"Eep!" Quatre squeaked out, feeling most undignified as he wrapped his arms around Heero's neck, holding on tight. Heero was moving fast, his steps a steady tap on the ground as he ran that didn't seem hindered by the boy in his arms. It would take far less than three hours this way. Quatre sighed and relaxed. He didn't really want to be carried, but it would be fast this way, and maybe they could reach a road before sunset. Well maybe... Quatre looked up to the horizon; the sun was due to set in maybe an hour.

Heero's voice was an unexpected break into his reverie. "Think light thoughts Quatre, if you go to sleep I promise I'll stop and drop you."

"I won't go to sleep." Quatre promised and held on a little tighter. "Ne... If you drop me, would you just leave me, or would you wait until I woke up?" He was genuinely curious.

"If I drop you, I promise it won't be on anything soft." Heero dodged around a few trees, his footsteps pounding on ahead.

"Thanks Heero." Quatre smiled somewhat sarcastically and just leaned back, hoping that Heero was quick, cause he was pretty much useless at the moment and almost wanted to go to sleep to pass the time. He didn't think Heero would be very talkative at the moment either. And Heero wasn't, having other things to concentrate on, but it was a shocking feat that they hit the road just as the sun was hitting the horizon. Quatre tried to stifle a yawn and wiggled, he wanted to be let go now, needed to walk. *As nice as it is to be carried... I need to stay awake.*

Heero smirked once he saw the road, dropping Quatre from his arms instead of putting him on his feet. And he hit a rock, of course. "We've reached the road."

"ITAI!" Quatre shouted as he tried to catch his footing but landed on the rock. He shot back up quickly and glared at Heero as he rubbed his posterior.

"You started wiggling. I wasn't going to resist your efforts to get down now that we reached the first destination." Heero started sauntering down the road, and he shook his head. Now to trick someone into pulling over for them...

Quatre grumbled some words about a sore ass, but he wasn't sure if he was referring to his new bruise or Heero. "I just didn't want to fall asleep." Quatre spoke a bit harshly. "Now... how should we get to town, this road is pretty isolated. I don't know if any cars are gonna drive by."

Heero peered over his shoulder. "Hey, I think it wasn't so bad, could have been something bigger." Heero was still walking, not even pausing for Quatre to catch up.

"Wait up!" Quatre yelled and ran up to catch up with Heero. *Sheesh! I should've just let him go by himself! But if I did that Milliardo might end up with spandex and... * Quatre paused as that mental image came up and he stopped. He smirked. *Well that wouldn't be so bad... but I'm sure Milliardo might not like that.* He broke into a run again to catch up with Heero.

Heero stopped as he saw Quatre right... There! He spun, grabbing the blonde and kissing him before releasing him and continuing like he hadn't paused. *Huh? Did Heero just kiss me?* Quatre blinked and looked ahead at Heero who was about ten feet in front of him. He scowled lightly and ran to catch up with him. Heero had a self-satisfied smirk on his face as he heard Quatre catching back up with him, leaving no doubt that he'd kissed the blond.

Quatre scowled at him again and matched his pace with Heero, sliding his hand into Heero's as he did so, and lacing their fingers together. Heero nearly paused, but he allowed it, then he seemed to reconsider, circling behind Quatre to free his dominant had for his gun. Quatre chuckled softly at the switch, and squeezed Heero's hand.

Heero turned his head, hearing the hum of an engine, perfect! He closed his eyes. "Car."

"Oh?" Quatre slightly tilted his eyes and listened. "What did you have in mind?"

Heero turned Odin again just grinned then, tipping an invisible hat. "Leave it to me by my other. I was around before he was, so I did something correctly." Odin then sauntered into the street, fixing a panicked look on his face as the car came to a screeching halt. "Oh man! You have no idea, could you give us a ride to the next town, please?" Heero was banging on the window, adding to the illusion though he could easily have broken it and his fingers were pulling his gun, but not removing the safety.

*Err...* Quatre paused, not knowing what to do, but just pasted a pitiful look on his face as he watched Heero.

"You guys, You totally got to get us to town, my friend, he's a toughie, but he's really hurt, we ran across a bear while we were camping and got lost, and he broke a rib! He was gonna hide it too, but he sure screamed at the time!" Odin, frankly put, just made up a major lie. Then, the driver, the only person in the car, opened his door and stepped out. No cruel fate awaited him, but the two pilots were gone before he could say anything.

"I got hurt by a bear and broke my rib?" Quatre asked later, trying very hard not to laugh.

Heero looked over at Quatre and smirked. "It wasn't me."

Quatre just rolled his eyes and laughed softly, wondering where Heero had gotten that quirk. "So... Do you have idea where the nearest town is?"

"Of course I do. The day I don't is the day Duo is willing to stop calling himself Shinigami." Heero phrased it that way on purpose. He knew a day would come when he could stop being so paranoid, but it was long in coming. Quatre smiled and just placed a free hand on Heero's leg while back and preparing to just wait until they got there. He didn't really have much to say. Heero shook his head, his hair falling into his eyes as he sped off down the deserted road. It wasn't a long drive, but by the time they reached the town, it was dark.

The city was small, barely larger than a town, but Heero pulled into a parking lot, and got out of the car, they couldn't afford to keep this one, they'd have to steal another for the trip back. "Lets get the clothes first."

"Yes. Let's." Quatre threw the door to the car shut and hurried after Heero. He'd been admiring the small city on the drive in. It was really quaint. One of the last few centers where there was still a sense of uniqueness.

"I need more clothes as well." It was a low murmur, and Heero was already moving towards the destination.

"Oh? More spandex?" Quatre teased as he followed, preparing to rack up more insults.

"Yes actually, I'm down to one set..." Heero trailed off, stepping into the store and looking around. He wasn't going to get as much say as he'd hoped in clothes. That other personality of his was going to take advantage of these things now that he'd been set free. Poor Heero.

"Perhaps you should get some tight jeans... You'd look nice in those..." Quatre trailed off.

Heero turned a gaze on Quatre and moved back to him. Heero's lips twitched a little, and when Heero met Quatre's gaze, there was a visible struggle. When he spoke though, it was amused. "I think I'm stronger than I believed. I would like some jeans of my own choosing as well."

"Ah good." Quatre smiled nervously for a moment. "Of course... I'd like you out of those as well as in them." He didn't think anyone would overhear him and it was fairly late, there were hardly any other shoppers in the store.

Heero quirked his lips. "In a heartbeat." Then Heero turned and flitted into the store, silent steps moving through the crowd as the inner child got what he wanted. Spandex was, amazingly, included, but so were some more... Frivolous... Clothes.

Quatre smirked, then licked his lips a little. He went into the store after Heero with a small glance backwards at the street. He didn't need any new clothes, but he planned on doing some shopping for Zechs. *But what's his size? He's taller than any of us... And larger... But just weighs the same.*

Heero got an armload of clothes, and there was absolutely no green! He wasn't just buying for himself either, he got clothes for the previously missing pair, and then at last he met up with Quatre by the racks for larger sizes. "Those would fit Zechs."

"You think so?" Quatre picked up a pair of white jeans. Somehow he thought Zechs would look good in white. "I like these."

Heero nodded then tosses his veritable mountain of clothes onto Quatre. "Hold this, I'll grab a few things for him." Heero flipped through quickly and he found a pair of crimson pants that would likely be snug on Zechs, as well as a couple shirts, a white button up and a dark gray one, with a pair of T shirts, black and dark purple respectively.

*Since when did Heero get a sense of fashion!?* Quatre watched Heero's choices in shock. "Be sure to get that dark green sweater over there. He'd look nice in that."

Heero flicked his eyes over and shook his head. "No, wrong shade of green, it'd make him look pale." Heero moved to a sweater nearby, which had a more blue tone, and got that instead.

Quatre shrugged behind the pile of clothes. "If you say so. Hurry up." He pleaded softly.

Heero glanced over and blushed, taking the pile back from Quatre. "Got a bit carried away. Let's go pay for this so we can get groceries."

"Yes. Let's. We don't have anything good for breakfast." Quatre led the way to the checkout. Heero already knew he was going to tell the others that Quatre got it all for everyone. He had, after all, but he wasn't going to say who picked it out. He nodded once and put the pile down on the counter for the check out woman. Quatre made small talk with the counter woman and just watched her pack up all the stuff. He then glanced back to Heero and smiled. Lifting several of the bags while leaving the rest for Heero as he walked out of the store. Heero collected the rest and nodded to the woman, then followed after Quatre. He knew it was wrong to play off his other personality like he was to make Quatre think it wasn't him, but he liked the freedom of it. If he ignored the gloating that was going on inside his head.

"Well Heero, should we steal another car or use the same one?" Quatre glanced around where stood on the pavement.

"Different one. There was a cell charger in that one." Heero moved to a black car a ways over and nodded, dropping his bags and pulling a couple picks from his spandex before he quickly got the car door open.

"Not bad." Quatre was pleased with the choice of car as well. He put the clothes in the back and walked around to the driver's side. "I'll drive." He had a near perverted grin on his face.

"I'm not that bad..." Heero crawled across the car and popped the drivers side open. "We have to hurry and get this moved." Heero leaned back into the passenger seat and pulled his bags in.

"Got it." Quatre hopped in, slammed the door shut, hot wired the car, and slammed the gas down before Heero could even buckle his seat belt. "So... Where's the nearest grocery store?"

"When did you get so good at that Quatre? I thought Duo was the thief?" Heero looked to Quatre, pointing forwards. "Straight, then left at the third light."

Quatre just smiled cryptically. "I am a gundam pilot after I, I do know things." Quatre followed Heero's directions and soon they arrived at the market.

"You were a rich boy first." Heero's voice was flat, showing that he was just back to himself and was making an observation.

"So?" Quatre countered. "That doesn't mean anything."

"It does. You and Wufei each had other things to learn besides fending for yourself as a child." Heero turned his head, peering out his window.

Quatre sighed. "Let's just get some more food, alright?"

"That was the aim of the trip." Heero waited then for Quatre to get them to their destination. Even with the cover of darkness, all this was making him nervous. Quatre nodded then located their destination, getting out without another word and shutting his door carefully. Heero moved from the car quickly, heading straight into the store once he closed his door. They needed to hurry since they stole the car before they were leaving the city.

Quatre shopped quickly. His thoughts running along the same track. He made sure to get some extra cookies for Duo and nearly ran to the checkout. Heero was a few steps behind, his own items having flavored jerky as well as the regular, plainer kinds, a few of his favorite treats were also hidden among all the practical items he got.

Quatre paid for everything and bagged it up, carrying most of the bags back to the car. "Would you like to drive the way back to the house? I don't really know the way." Heero nodded, following with his own bags and put it all in the back seat before climbing in and restarting the car, not even waiting for Quatre to get in. Though he buckled the seat belt while the other boy was getting the groceries in. Quatre got in, slamming the door as he did so and buckled up. He rested his elbow on the side panel and just looked out at the night sky.

Heero left the town under the speed limit, but the moment the city was out of sight, he floored the engine, streaking away into the forest. "You'll give Zechs his things when we get there, won't you?"

"Why? You going to be somewhere else?" Quatre asked, still continuing to stare out the window. *How are we gonna get the car to the house? I didn't see a driveway anywhere We'll have to hike back in. I guess it's good that way. If someone ambushes they'll be limited to foot soldiers.*

Heero spun the wheel into the tree line abruptly, giving Quatre no warning as he saw the path that led to the safe house. He knew it wasn't meant for cars but it was the best they had, plus, he had driven out a different way then they were returning.

"Ack!" Quatre yelled and reached for the 'oh shit' handle. "YOU CRAZY BAKA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!"

"Driving." There was that laugh of his in his voice, the crazy one he used when piloting his gundam. Oh that was encouraging, wasn't it?

"Shit..." Quatre breathed. He rarely ever cursed but now he was afraid. This car was not going to make it through this forest; it didn't have four wheel drive. It was a luxury car after all.

Heero spun the wheel, tipping the car sharply in a corner, starting to laugh quietly, his eyes shining over the challenge of taking this vehicle through the terrain.

"Heero... You know... We can always carry this stuff." Quatre put in nervously.

Heero swung his head around to look at Quatre before looking back at what he was doing. "We have milk Quatre, it would go bad."

"Still we should ditch the car in the bushes for--AAHHHH! LOOKOUT!" Quatre shrieked seeing a tree approaching them fast.

Heero spun the wheel again, averting the disaster and wending around it, his hands quick on the wheel, then spun back onto the path. "Calm down." Another gale of laughter.

"I'm not calming down until I'm out of this car!" Quatre snapped back, his nerves on edge. The car made a funny sound a moment later and Quatre tensed again.

Heero pressed the gas, speeding the wrecking zone of a vehicle faster and they burst out into the clearing. Near the safe house. They got there much, much faster then they should of. The car chose then to die.

"You killed it." Quatre announced sadly.

"I wasn't supposed to?" Heero skidded the car to a stop inches from the cabin.

"Well...I was hoping we could have a little fun before we went back into the house." Quatre suddenly said very softly.

"Oh... But we have things that need to go inside first..." Heero turned his eyes on Quatre and leaned forward, licking his chin. "We can come back out here..."

"But... It's always been a fantasy of mine to have sex in the back of a Mercedes." Quatre purred and leaned forward to lick Heero in return.

Heero quirked his lips. "So you can get your fantasy... Groceries first." Then Heero pulled back, opening his car door. Quatre opened his door to see Wufei half clothed and pointing a gun at him.

Duo was trailing behind, eyes wide as he looked at the car. "How'd you get it here?"

"Heero." Quatre replied as if that was completely acceptable, he pushed Wufei aside and got the groceries before walking in.

Heero grinned at them both, his maniacal, "I got to scare the shit out of someone" grin. This time he got to scare Quatre.

Duo tucked his gun back into his shorts, a pair of flimsy ones he decided to use in place of the boxers. He then moved to Wufei. "It's just the guys Fei." Wufei shrugged and stuck the gun back in his pants and moved forward to grab some groceries as well, pausing for Duo to follow him back into the house.

Heero leaned in, grabbing a couple select bags and tossing them to Duo. "Those are for you and Wufei." Duo caught the bags in his hand, then peered down at them as they were curiously soft, his feet already taking him after Wufei. Quatre put his groceries away and took a seat at the kitchen table, resting his chin in his palm.

Zechs was leaving the doorway as Wufei was coming to it, and saw the grin on Heero's face. He'd seen that grin before. "You drove Heero?" Heero nodded, gathering the remaining bags as he bumped the car shut, taking them all inside.

Wufei walked in and put the groceries on the table, then crossed his arms over his chest. He wanted to go back to bed, and it showed on his face that now the threat was gone, he was not all there. Duo, having no actual groceries, was pawing through the bags as Heero and Zechs came back in, his eyes wide as he pulled a few things out. "Oh cool!!"

Heero turned around, then moved forward, pulling one of the items out of Duo's hand and leaving the rest. "Sorry, that one is mine."

"Duo? Can we go lie back down?" Wufei blinked a couple times, his eyes unfocused and glassy. He hated waking up to protect his life, and Duo's, only to find out it wasn't necessary.

Duo nodded, still staring at Heero. "I wanna see that in use sometime Heero, I didn't think you wore black!" Duo then rose, the two bags in hand as he moved down the hall, smiling to himself. He was still solemn, but he couldn't wake up depressed, he'd trained himself not to. Wufei reached out for Duo's hand, lacing their fingers together as he walked down the hall and shut the door behind them. Duo set the bags down, moving across the room, his fingers removing the gun and shorts before he jumped back onto the bed, face first. Wufei chuckled and bounced into the bed after Duo.

Duo rolled over, hooking his arms around Wufei and kissing him all over. He felt far better than before, but still. "They got us clothes Fei!"

"Why are you so excited? You hardly ever wear clothes anymore." Wufei teased, wrapping his arms around Duo and giving him little kisses back.

Duo blushed. "There are shorts in there too... And a nifty belt!"

Wufei kissed Duo's forehead and patted his hair affectionately. "I'm glad that such a simple thing makes you so happy." He leaned forward and rested his head on Duo's shoulder, smiling warmly all the while. "I'm glad to see you happy." Wufei purred giving Duo a soft kiss on his shoulder.

Duo was relieved to find that he was indeed smiling. He felt wrong when he wasn't. "I like being happy too! I claim the belt and hat I saw in there, but all those light colored things have got to be for you."

"They got me clothes?" Wufei was baffled. He didn't need any clothes, but the fact that they got him something and didn't even ask...

"Yeah, stuff you might even like! I didn't think they'd get anything, then again, Heero was the one that tossed the bags over, and he had stuff in there too." Duo nodded. He loved gifts himself, no matter what they were considering he'd gotten so very few in his life.

"Hmm... I'll look in the morning." Wufei grinned and pulled Duo down to the bed with him.

Duo giggled, snuggling against Wufei. "I like gifts." He then closed his eyes to go back to sleep.

To be continued.
