Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ The Psionic Saga ❯ Chapter 5 ( Chapter 5 )
Chapter Five.
Wufei wandered the halls of the dorm aimlessly. In fact, he was not even sure which dorm he was in. It had been hours since he had left Quatre with Duo. He had checked in on Trowa and Heero then started his wandering. Aimless wandering, purely uncharacteristic.
Wufei always had a purpose. He loved having purpose. Life without purpose, in his opinion, was useless. If everyone went through life doing nothing of import nothing would get done. Unfortunately most people lived their lives in just such a way, leaving the hard-workers to take the slack. Wufei didn't really mind. He liked taking up the slack. It gave him something to do.
It gives you something to do, the thought echoed in his head and he halted. Looking around he realised he was standing in the centre of a long hallway. The numbers on the doors indicated he had made his way to dorm nine, four levels above Heero's.
Frowning darkly at his recent lapse of consciousness Wufei started heading back to the stairs when he heard a voice. It was no louder than any other voice you might hear through a door in the middle of the night, muffled and barely audible. That wasn't why Wufei stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the door with eyes a shade darker than jet. Anger roared through him and he knocked sharply, three short raps that stung his knuckles.
The voice stopped, there was a shuffling, and someone came to the door. An older student, Wufei recognised him instantly and his mind raced.
"Can I help you?"
"Maybe. I am trying to find someone with a copy of next years physics text, for a friend of mine."
It wasn't completely a lie. Duo had been raving about how damaged his copy was. It would be unusable when he finally had to take the class. Still, it was a stupid thing to be asking for in the middle of the night and this person knew it. Wufei could only hope he didn't call his bluff but put his escapade down to the eagerness of a foolish youth.
"Kid, it's just past midnight! Go to bed."
The door slammed. The voice started talking to whoever else was in the room and Wufei just glared at the door, infuriated. Yet some small part of him was pleased. Some small part of him had known the voice even when the conscious mind had not, and had led him here, to hear it and realise…But what could it mean?
Racing back to the stairs, Wufei leapt onto the banister and slid down to the fifth floor, landing easily and sprinting down the fifth floor dorm to Heero's door. He knocked loudly, annoyed the door was locked yet understanding it was necessary. He didn't have to wait long before Heero appeared, hair sticking up in all directions.
Wufei pushed past him and kicked Trowa awake. Trowa did not protest but the look in his eye was murderous.
"Why aren't you with Quatre? What if something happens?"
"Quatre can take care of himself!" Wufei snapped, beginning to pace. He looked at his feet, silently wondering what they thought they were doing. Knowing he could not stop them without fidgiting, Wufei let them work while he glared at the roof, or rather through the roof at the man four levels above.
"What's wrong?"
Blunt and to the point. Wufei knew he could count on Heero.
"I know who one of my attackers was." He held up a hand to stop their questions and the obeyed, waiting for him to finish. "The women are the ones who used…whatever it was…on me," Wufei did not want to say magic, though that was what he was thinking. "But the one who held me down was male. He called out to the women once he had a hold of me. I recognised the voice when I was walking around the dorms tonight."
Silence. Then "Who?"
Wufei looked at the murderous glint in Heero's eyes and wondered if it had been a bad idea to spill. For all he knew Heero would go put the guy in a coma for life right now! Not, Wufei decided, that he would mind.
"Milliard Peacecraft."
All three boys shared a knowing looked before sitting down, Trowa and Heero on their respective beds, Wufei in the chair at Duo's desk. Each of them knew the school's captain, and each knew he was practically untouchable. His record was immaculate. Even if they went to the dean and explained all that had happened he would never believe them. No one would ever believe ill of Milliard Peacecraft even if they caught him in the act.
Wufei looked sharply at Heero and saw his own thought reflected there. They would do exactly that; catch them in the act. But that would mean…
"I'll be bait," Heero said softly but with no room for argument in his voice. Wufei nodded aware of Trowa adding his silent assent.
They knew it didn't matter what time of day it was. They had attacked Wufei in the early afternoon and Duo at sunset. Wufei had a sneaking suspicion their power increased at sunset though why he could not say. Something was nagging in the back of his head, but he pushed it back, refusing to acknowledge it. This was not the time to focus on small fancies. It was the time for action.
They spent what remained of the night planning. Wufei had seen the people coming, but had also not expected anything. Now they did…it was time to play.
Heero would head out at lunch the next day. He would head for the clearing, something completely expected after Duo's attack. They doubted he would be attacked there. Rather, Heero would move on from the clearing toward the school gym, where he usually spent two hours working out every afternoon. Wufei and Trowa would head that way too, but expected Heero to be attacked somewhere along the southern school border, long before he would ever come in sight of the gym. Subsequently, Wufei and Trowa would leave early and go through the school to reach the gym. This would bring them along the school's south side, where they could see Heero yet remain out of sight themselves. After that, it would be a waiting game.
Wufei headed back to Quatre at five am, desperate to get a small amount of sleep before the days events. Luckily it was Saturday. They had gotten out of class for the last three days by pure luck. Another day would have landed them in trouble.
Quatre was fine. Thee had been no sign of people trying to get into the room, for which Wufei was silently relieved. He had been a little concerned about leaving the blonde alone, despite his reassurance to Trowa that Quatre could handle himself.
Wufei quickly relayed the plan as he curled up on the bed and fell asleep, vaguely aware of Quatre muttering about the stupidity of rushing into things as he sat running ice over Duo's still form. Wufei couldn't bring himself to look at Duo, so he slept facing the wall. He didn't want to see what could have happened to him if he hadn't broken free.
That didn't keep the image from his dreams.
