Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ The Psionic Saga ❯ Chapter 20 ( Chapter 20 )
Chapter Twenty.
Warnings: err….how to warn you…lol! This is a very strange part, but then most of the story has been a little bizarre. Ah….this part may be confusing, so if you have any q's, just ask! …Hopefully I have managed to explain things in lamens terms, but sometimes that's a little hard for me to tell, since I know what I'm trying to say and you don't…just bare with it if it starts to rattle, ne? Extreme Sci-fi elements.

Trowa looked from Heero to Duo and back again in complete confusion. He had no idea what was going on, but he knew he probably wasn't going to like it. Quatre seemed to have some understanding. Hell, even Wufei seemed to have gotten his head around it all. Trowa just knew they were in trouble and that he intended to fight, no matter what, to keep his friends safe.
Trowa couldn't help but notice that Sally was still separate from the other Psionicists, standing far back in their circle, wide spaces between herself and the others. He thought it meant something, but there was no way of knowing what. Instead, he forced himself to concentrate on the professors and what they were saying. They key, he knew, was right before him.
But what was the genesis Duo spoke of?
"I fear, Duo, that you will have to be a little more explicit," Professor G looked out from his mushroom hair was a grimace.
Duo made to step forward, a truly wicked grin on his face, but much to Trowa's amusement Heero once again moved in front of him, placing an arm across his waist to prevent him from trying again.
Trowa knew something had happened between the pair. He knew it the moment Heero busted down his dorm door and demanded they come and help him `save Duo'. Heero might always have shown signs of wanting to protect his friend, but he had never expressed that desire verbally. Heero Yuy never expressed anything verbally if he didn't have to.
Duo looked ready to argue, but one look at Heero's face had him backing down. That caught Trowa's attention, as he knew very well that nothing, especially not a Yuy death glare, would get Duo to back off.
"It's annual complicity, professor G," Duo finally coked out and the mischievous twinkle returned to his eyes. Even Heero seemed amused, some trick waiting up his sleeve. Trowa wished he knew what it was.
The professors were silent, waiting for more, and with their silence they silenced the others.
"Man evolves, but reaches a point where he can no longer move forward on his own. So man creates the machine. The machine then teaches the man, and man evolves. Man then uses what he has learnt to evolve the machine, and the machine in turn teaches the man, and so the two continue to evolve through each other. Evolution of one is not possible without the evolution of that which it creates. One complies with the other in equal time frames. This is annual complicity."
"Then why have they not evolved, Maxwell?" Professor J swung an arm in a great arc to indicate all his Psionicists. Those who had the mechanics but had failed to `evolve'.
Duo smiled and swung his cross around his finger on its chain. Trowa grimaced. Duo was enjoying himself. They were in their worst situation yet, and the baka was toying around! At least, Trowa thought he was…
"Because the machines you have created have failed to teach. And because sometimes it is not necessarily evolution that is required."
"What do you mean boy?" J snarled, face a deep shade of red, flustered with anger.
"How was man made? How was the earth made? How was all life made?" Duo slipped under Heero's arm and leapt forward, quick and nimble as a ferret, landing on the ground before the professors. Heero growled in frustration but made no move to get Duo back on the rock. Trowa understood why; he could see whatever danger Duo put himself in from the rock, he could not from the ground.
"They were made with a Genesis, a big bang, a huge evolutionary step that cannot be explained. To create a Psionicist with the power you are talking about, you require a genesis. A new human form capable of waking others of its kind. And it was right in front of you the whole time."
J's eyes went straight to Heero and Trowa gasped, recalling Heero's first words when they had entered the clearing.
That's me.
Quatre had told Trowa about the boy in the dreamscape. Trowa had never seen it, never having come in contact with the Psionicists. He felt suddenly left out, alone and cold, and yet their was such familiarity in the description Quatre gave, Trowa felt he must almost have seen the vision, if only in a dream that is forgotten on waking.
Could the boy in chains have been Heero? Have been a…genesis, as Duo put it? And if it was possible, then what was he capable of. Quatre had been terrified of the boy in chains…
"Yes J. They all told you about me. Every time you connected them to their gifts, they touched me, only barely, but enough. I knew what you were doing and I didn't like it. I waited patiently, sending the image again and again, waiting for just one of them to see it and understand. But none of your machines were built to teach them, and they never came back."
Heero looked down at Duo, who had turned to stare at him in shock. Heero was not smiling. He looked carved from stone and Trowa understood Quatre's fear. He also understood why Duo was so shocked; Heero had never said that much in the whole time they had known him.
"But in order for a genesis to take form, its antithesis must also. Duo created a device that taught. Weak yes, but ultimately more effective. He did it without understanding what he was doing, without knowing what it was capable of, and in doing so, he taught himself. Duo came to me again, and again, without ever knowing it, and then he broke the seal. He set me free. In teaching himself, he taught me, and now I shall teach you."
"Heero, NO!" Duo screamed, face etched with fear. Trowa immediately stepped back to protect Quatre, sensing something was wrong.
"Heero," Quatre cried out in alarm. "They will use it for evil! Think of what they did to Wufei, to Duo!"
Wufei looked confused, but reminded of his own ordeal at the very beginning of the mess, he blanched and drew his katana, hands lighting with an ethereal red glow.
Trowa felt useless. He had no abilities, nothing to use to protect Quatre, to help his friends, and there was something about the look in Duo's eyes…Duo was afraid, terrified…and he was completely out of ideas. That, more than anything he had witnessed in the entire saga they had endured, pushed Trowa over the edge.
"Yuy, stop this madness right now!"
Heero turned, ever so slowly, to face Trowa, eyes so dark and decidedly deadly. Trowa swallowed dryly, but his anger pushed him on, refusing to back down.
"Or what, Trowa?" Heero smirked at the evident lack of response to his question, reaching out with one firm hand and pressing the tip of his forefinger against the centre of Trowa's forehead. Trowa gasped.
For a moment Trowa could hear nothing. It was a silence so intense, so complete, it almost reduced him to tears. Then all the sounds of the universe came rushing in and he had for a moment he was drowning in them. Then knowledge came with it, and Trowa drew himself in to the very core of his self and settled for a moment in quiet contemplation.
`What is this?'
`This is your gift. I have awoken you.'
Trowa stared at Heero in surprise.
`How did you get here? Where are we?'
`This is your core; the frequency that gives you life, and no other.'
Trowa thought about this, then frowned.
`So how did you get here?' He asked again.
`All frequencies give me life. That is how I can give you life….or take it away.'
Trowa finally understood why Duo was so frightened, and how Duo had managed to wake Heero's…other form, the genesis. If Heero existed within all frequencies, then the moment Duo managed to access his core, he would have also accessed a part of Heero, and Heero had responded.
Trowa finally reached out, tentatively at first then with more determination, opening his eyes, which he had not realised were shut, and looking around. Everyone was looking at him.
Cautiously, Trowa reached out with a tendril of his new gift. The strangest sound pumped through the air, like a massive punch to the air. It knocked everyone to the ground, hands covering ears as they screamed in shock and pain.
Trowa stopped, stunned. A gentle hand rested on his shoulder.
"Solokinetics….very nice," Quatre whispered encouragingly. "I'm Psychokinetic, if you hadn't realised."
Wufei got to his feet, glaring at Trowa.
"Was that really necessary?"
Duo was on his feet, running at Heero. Trowa didn't know why, but he didn't want to see Heero get hurt either. Reaching out, Trowa directed one minuscule shot at Duo.
Duo fell to his knees, hands once again over his ears as his face contorted in pain.
Quatre punched Trowa in the arm.
"Not so hard, you'll hurt him!"
Trowa noticed Quatre wasn't telling him to stop, so he laid off a little, but kept Duo on his knees.
Heero meanwhile had stepped before Sally and had his finger on her forehead.
There was that single moment again, when Trowa felt the world stand still, tent he earth began to rumble.
