Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ The punished ❯ Tin Man ( Chapter 1 )

`It's not at all like they say, this place, these people. I cannot remember the last time I felt anything. I wish I could feel. Duo calls me the Tin-Man, and in a way it is kind of true. Though I do not strive for the heart, which I lack within. I do not feel. I do not wish to feel. It seems such a trivial argument. To feel or not to feel, that is indeed the dilemma at hand.'
Heero stepped back from his computer and watched the line behind his words and in a fit of frustration he slammed his finger down on the backspace button and deleted his words. He started to scowl and he sighed “Tin-Man.” His words were shallow and small. The only thing he felt was hurt. He'd gotten a little drunk, he'd gotten a little mad, and he'd done something stupid. He hit Duo.
The door slid open slowly. “Heero.” The voice was soft, firm, and to the point. Heero turned and as the door opened Wufei entered and pulled up a stool beside him.
“How is he?” Heero's eyes were on the floor. There was no need to explain himself there was no excuse for his behavior.
“He's doing better.” Wufei leaned up against the door. “Quatre said you promised to conduct yourself better from now on.”
“May I see him?” Heero asked gently.
“You don't need my permission you need his.” Wufei smiled a bit. “And he's asking for you.”
Heero stood and then turned to Wufei. “Thank you.”
“Don't thank me. You know who you need to thank.” Heero nodded.

Duo sat up in bed his left eye was swollen shut and his left arm was in a cast. He smiled as he drank juice through a bendy straw. His head was swimming but the painkillers were doing their jobs. The door slid open slowly and a head popped in. “Hey.” Heero stepped into the room.
“Hi.” Duo wanted to cry but he did not.
“Look Duo I'm …”
“It's ok Heero.” Duo broke in. “I forgive you.”
“Thanks.” Heero walked up to the bed and sat down. “Look, I shouldn't have gotten so angry.”
“It's the only way you know how to be.” Duo smiled and he looked horrid.
“I want to be better.” Heero sighed gently, and he moved toward Duo who did not flinch when Heero came near. Heero pulled Duo's hair in his hands and started to braid the locks of hair back out of Duo's eyes. Duo smiled, “I didn't know you knew how to braid hair.”
“I've seen you do it so much it isn't that much harder then braiding back electrical wiring.” Duo laughed, Heero's comment made him smile.
“I'm sorry that I upset you Heero,” Duo looked down it was wrong of me to call you heartless.” Heero nodded.
“It was very wrong of me to hit you.” Heero lifted Duo's chin and examined the wounds he had inflicted. “I am…” Heero paused momentarily “Sorry.”
“You can just promise not to do it again and we'll be even.” Duo smiled gently.
“Yea.” Heero nodded “Get some rest Quatre will be in here in a little while.” Heero turned. “I understand if you want to move back into your room.” Heero sighed as he walked out the door.
“Heero that's not what I want…”But it was too late, Heero was out the door. Duo sighed. Heero had not heard him, had not acknowledged his statement and was even more disturbed by the fact Heero had just somewhat doted over him. “I just want you.” Duo lay back and tried to rest but the throbbing in his head and in his chest was more then he could take.
