Chapter Twelve

"Are you all right?" Duo groaned as he disentangled himself from Lily. Duo had caught Lily before she had connected with the trees in her fall, however, the act of Duo using his magic, after not using it for so long, had caused his wings to give way. They had fallen at least the last thirty feet to the ground. The trees branches had provided little protection as the branches and limbs scratched them as they fell. The morning light creped through the dense leaves casting a dim glow on the ground below, enough to stir Duo from his slumber.

"I think so," Lily replied as she sat up. Brown leaves stuck to her hair and the loose strands that had fallen from their braids. She and Duo both looked disheveled, as of how their long hair stuck out in odd places and their clothes were ripped. From Duo's back two long gashes, from where his wings had grown, could be seen. Lily stood up.

"Can you stand?" Lily asked as she brushed the dead leaves off of herself.

"Yeah," Duo replied as he tried to stand but fell back down as a straining sensation ran from his ankle to his knee.

"Are you all right?"

Duo felt his ankle. "Yeah, but my ankle's broken."

"Should we stay here and wait for someone to find us?" Lily asked as she knelt down next to Duo.

"No, it's probably too dangerous to stay in one spot very long here," Duo replied as he looked through the distant trees.

"Here let me help you," Lily said. Duo through an arm over her shoulder and allowed Lily to help him stand, taking the pressure off his right ankle. They walked in the east direction, believing that was where the forests would thin and the plains would be in site. The forests seemed to grow thicker as they walked. They stumbled upon roots and were snagged by grabbing thickets.

Wufei gazed from the tower down towards the gates. The demons had finally retreated as more and more villagers began to arrive and the neighboring country of Roth had sent a fleet of soldiers to aid them. The slight pain from a stray arrow in Wufei's arm had sent him wondering down the halls to the infirmary.

The infirmary was bustling about, aiding the wounding and sick. Witch Doctors hurried about, making potions and casting spells, and transporting the dead out of the rooms. Wufei walked past several beds before finally finding Sally bandaging the wounded leg of one man. Another woman showed up with a crutch and gave it to the man. The man smiled and gave his thanks as he wobbled out of the room. Wufei entered the room marked by drawn curtains.

"I sent Jia for help and this is all she can find?" Sally teased as Wufei sat down on the cot. Wufei snorted at the comment. Sally began to remove the padding that had gone under the armor Wufei had worn. Blood seeped through the wound as Sally prodded it with her fingers.

"A tip of the arrow is still embedded," Sally stated as she began to disinfect a knife by holding it over a flame then whipping the black reside off the blade with a clean cloth when she was sure the knife was sterile. She offered what they liked to call a 'clutch' which consisted of a stick wrapped in cloths to Wufei as an assistant to prevent the patient from screaming. Wufei snorted and braced himself for the impact. Sally shrugged as she laid Wufei on the cot and began to sink the blade into the wound. After a moment of digging, she had pried the tip of the arrow from the wound. Wufei hissed for a moment as he felt the release of the arrow tip.

"Is Jia with Heero?" Sally asked as she turned her back and busied herself with finding a potion that would heal and clean the wound, mixing a few ingredients.

"Yes," Wufei replied as he sat up and held a cloth to the bleeding wound. "It's safer with them."

"Yes I believe that is true," Sally replied as she turned, holding a beaker containing a smoking blue potion. "This might sting." Sally began to pour the potion into the wound. The potion began to hiss as new skin began to grow around the wound and cover the wound. Wufei began to flex his arm.

"Thank you," he said as he stood and began to leave.

"Where are you going?" Sally called to him. "You need to rest."

"Can't," Wufei replied as he walked past the other rooms that consisted of drawn curtains. "They'll be back."

"What do you mean by 'threw her off the cliff'?" Relena screamed at Milliardo.

"Don't worry," Milliardo hastily replied. "Duo went to catch her, but he hasn't used magic for so long that he would of likely injured himself. He'll be easier to catch though when he decides to shift again to bring them back up the cliff."

"Don't be an idiot!" Relena screeched. "Duo's not stupid. He knows I could track his magic easily and be a danger too them."

Milliardo shrunk at his sister's yelling. "Aren't you glad that I've brought at least one of them?"

"Yes, yes, of course. But I still need the girl," Relena said as she sat down in a throne made out of parts of human and demons' broken bones. "Bring him in, by the way." Relena waved her hand and the doors through open. Two demons, each having red colored skin with horse-like legs on human bodies and dark blood red wings dragged Solo by his arms and threw him at Relena's feet. Solo looked quite battered. A cut ran across his cheek and a gash in his arm was visible from the rip in his shoulder. The back of his shirt had been ripped like a whip had been slashed across his back.

"I see you are quite the strong one," Relena said to Solo. Solo glared at her as he stood, a limp in his leg.

"Let's just see how strong you really are…"

A/N: Sorry it's short. I'll begin writing on the next chapter ASAP and I promise a lot more action. I just hope I'm good at writing battle scenes. Also I was hoping to possibly put a lemon in it, but I'm afraid too. Can anyone give me pointers?
