The Water Was Fine

By Ebony Quill

Authoress' Notes: Here's a little ficlet that I wrote the other day. This is the first thing that I've ever written with a straight coupling (DuoxHilde), and I must say I'm pretty proud of this.

They sat next to the deep pool of water. Their pants were rolled up, their socks sunning on a rock next to their hiking boots. They both stared at the waterfall before them. It was magnificent. Water cascaded down, sending ripples of coolness to their feet. Hilde's heart slowed down from its rapid pace. She and Duo had walked seven miles to reach their peaceful, relaxing destination and she was a bit tired. It was quite the trek; the sun was harsh and the grade was high. She looked over at her braided beau. It was worth it. She ran her fingers through her short, blue hair and sighed. Everything was so blissful, so sweet. She wiped the sweat from her forehead. It was hot. Duo must have thought the same, because soon he began to wade into the water. He went deeper and deeper, until he was standing waist deep. He turned to her, calling her name, telling her to come in. The water was fine.

She turned the thoughts around in her head. The water was cold, a little too cold. She explained she would have to be persuaded to come in. Duo smiled and began the persuasion. He slowly lifted her shirt above his head. The shirt flew through the air and landed in Hilde's lap. Duo blew a kiss and played with his braid, teasingly, seductively. A laugh escaped Hilde's lips and she doubled over with laughter. Duo was such a fool.

But the water still seemed too cold. No, the water was not fine.

Duo held up one finger. Wait one second. Duo's head disappeared below the water's surface. Hilde waited. And then she waited some more. Duo still had not come up after a while. Everything settled. Nothing was heard but the sound of birds and wind brushing the leaves in the trees. Then the silence was broken, as he rose through the surface.

He dangled an item in his hands. They were pants. His pants. That meant that he wasn't wearing any. Hilde turned these thoughts in her head. The pants, his pants, were tossed onto dry ground.

But the water still seemed too cold. No, the water was not fine.

Duo crossed his arms. What could he do now? He went underwater again. After a few silent moments he reappeared. Now he was holding boxers. He threw the boxers, which Hilde caught. A pair of eyes looked at the boxers, then at Duo. Then the boxers, then Duo.

The water suddenly didn't seem too cold anymore. Yes, the water was fine.

She worked her way into the water. She waded into the water until she found herself next to him. Soon, her shirt found the same fate as Duo's. So did her pants. Duo wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. They looked into each other's eyes.

The water wasn't cold at all. Yes, the water was very fine.

They kissed. They kissed a sweet kiss that blocked out everything around them. Suddenly, the birds were gone, the wind had ceased, the water was non-existent, and time had stopped in its place. Soon, time began to continue its journey, and as time marched on the kiss became less and less sweet. It became more aggressive. Tongues began to search, and hands began to grasp.

The water was hot, baby. Hell yeah, the water was fine.
