“Things I'll Never Say”

Dorothy gave herself one last look in the mirror. She wished she could do better, but this was the best she could do. She left for the conference before she could talk herself into not going.
As she walked in, she could see him talking to Relena. She could not tell what it was about by their expressions. She walked up to them and instantly felt nervous.

I'm tugging at my hair
I'm pulling at my clothes
I'm trying to keep my cool
I know it shows

I'm staring at my feet
My cheeks are turning red
I'm searching for the words inside my head

I'm feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you're worth it
You're worth it yeah

“Hello Dorothy,” Relena said with a smile.
“Hello,” he greeted. Was it with a smile? It could have been her imagination.
“H-hi,” she stammered.
“You look nice,” he commented.
“Um, thanks, I couldn't get it the way I wanted it, though.” Stupid. She never talked like this before. It was all his fault.
“You still look beautiful.”
“I…I….”
He turned to leave. It was now or never.
“Wait!” She called.
“What? Something you want to say?”

If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I want to blow you……AWAY….
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you to tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down….on one knee….
Marry me today
Marrie me today
Guess I'm wishing
My life away
With these things I'll never say

It was never.
A week later, Dorothy was still mentally kicking herself. She had just let him go. He was right there, probably wanting her to say it, and she said nothing. What was her problem? She did not have this problem in the war. And now she could barely speak in his presence. She was being a fool.
“God, even Relena doesn't' have this problem,” she said to herself, “A few years a go, I would have just even gone up to him and said, `Come on, I want to fuck you,' but now I can barely say his name. I've gone soft.”

I don't do me any good its just a waste of time
What use is it to you what's on mind
If it ain't comin out we're not going anywhere
So why can't I just tell you that I care

Cause I'm feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you're worth it!

She saw him that weekend, sitting in a park, and reading a book with a title she could not read with his hand in the way. She started to wonder if that hand ever touched a naked woman's body. It probably had. Then she started to imagine it over her own body.
“Hello, Dorothy,” he said when he looked up.
“Hello,” she answered with more grace this time, “What book are you reading?”
War and Peace
“Such a fitting title for your past”
“Yes,” he agreed with a slight grimace, “You look like you have something to say again. What is it?”

If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I want to blow you……AWAY….
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you to tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down….on one knee….
Marry me today
Marrie me today

She sighed, “It's just…it's nothing.”

Guess I'm wishing
My life away
With these things I'll never say

“Are you sure? This is the second time.”
“Since when are you so inquisitive?” she shot back. She looked out to children playing; she was getting defensive.
“Well…I…I just though something was wrong that you wanted to talk to me; that's all,” he told her.
She looked him with a slight pleading in her eyes.

What's wrong with me toung
these words keep slipping away
I stutter I stumble like I've got nothing to say

La da da's…

“Damn it, I can't even say it,” she thought she sat next to him and stared at her feet. She could feel his eyes on her. Those eyes….
“Can't say what?” he asked.
“She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. Had she not said that in her head? Had she really said it aloud?
“Is it serious? What's wrong?” he became concerned, which was very touching.

If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I want to blow you……AWAY….
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you to tight

“I just can't say the damn words,” she said finally. She could feel his body heat next to her. She vaguely wondered what it would feel like to wake up next to him. Then her mind traveled to him proposing and her walking down the aisle.

If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down….on one knee….
Marry me today
Marrie me today

None of that was going to happen if she did not say anything. She finally worked up the courage to say something about it. She turned to him, looked at him squarely in the eye, and opened her mouth when,
“Hey!” called a girl as she bounded up. She looked vaguely familiar, but Dorothy did not know her or from where.
“Who are you?” grumbled Dorothy.
“This is my girlfriend,” he said with a smile. He stood up and kissed the wench. “Dorothy, I'm sure you remember each other.” He slipped an arm around the girl's waist.
The girl smiled, “Of course. How could I forget her? Honey, we need to go. We'll be late.”
“Yes, well, I hope you're better, Dorothy,” he said then left.

Guess I'm wishing
My life away
With these things I'll never say,” she mused to herself, “Bitch.”
