Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Turn Around ❯ One-Shot
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never
coming round}
It had all become routine. Everyday was a normal day for Duo, same old, same
old. Get up, shower, dress, eat a bowl of cereal, go off to work at the
Preventers, keep the world safe from criminals and malcontents, come home
(picking up some kind of take out along the way), and then spend the early
evening in front of the TV before going to bed. Not exactly exciting, and
hardly living it up. He'd always thought that when the war was over, every day
would be an adventure, another take on how to best enjoy life. Well, it wasn't
anymore, hadn't been since Heero went away.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the
sound of my tears

the years have gone by}
Duo lay in his bed, painfully aware that he was unhappy. And painfully aware
of why. Heero. He missed Heero, and he wasn't even sure where Heero had gone, only that Duo hadn't been enough to make him stay. Tears came to his eyes and Duo buried his face in his pillow to muffle the sobs. //Boys don't cry.// As he did so often, Duo regretted that he'd never told Heero how he felt. He
cried for what had never been, for the years that had been wasted. The years
he'd spent without Heero because he'd been afraid of his reaction.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the
look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart}
Somewhere in that realm between waking and sleeping, Duo thought of Heero.
Monotone voice, near-maniacal laughter, that messy, wonderful hair, those rare
times when he smiled...but mostly those eyes, the all seeing cobalt eyes.
There were times when Duo had thought he'd gotten through to Heero, when there would be a flash in those eyes, or they would soften, just a little. Then it
would be gone, and Duo would chastise his over active imagination. But it was
those snapshots, Heero with his eyes alive, that Duo cherished in his lonely
bed. It was those memories that caused his regret, that were slowly tearing
him to pieces. Slowly, Duo slipped into a dream, the same dream he had every
night, where Heero came to him.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit restless and I dream of
something wild}
Cobalt eyes watched Duo from the deepest shadows of the room. It had been too
long, years too long. Even just watching the braided boy sleep was balm for
his lonely soul. He'd thought a lot about the decisions that he'd made, the
possibilities he had dismissed because of his fear. It had taken him a long
time to realize that it had been fear that made him walk away from his friends,
from Duo. He listened to Duo moan in his sleep and realized with some shock
that he was standing right next to the bed. He started to turn away when Duo
moaned a coherent word.
"Heero."
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit helpless and I'm lying like
a child in your arms}
Before Heero even knew what he was doing, he reached out and brushed the bangs off Duo's forehead, soothing the sleeping boy. It felt so unbelievably good to touch him. He knew in that instant that he had made a mistake. He should
never have touched Duo. He'd been fighting a losing battle with himself for
the last few weeks, a culmination of years of internal strife. Now he was most
definitely defeated, defeated by the longing in the voice of the braided boy as
he spoke his name and by his own need. Before he could pause to think about
the repercussions, he slid onto the bed, and ever so gently lifted Duo into his
arms.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit angry and I know I've got to
get out and cry}
Duo stirred. The dream had changed. Heero was touching him, and it felt
incredible. A thought floated up from the depths of his mind. No dream felt
this good. Forcing himself to consciousness, Duo opened his eyes, and saw
spiky hair and dark eyes, staring back down at him.
"Heero?"
Duo lay still in Heero's arms, shocked. Yes, this was why the dream had felt
too good. Actually being held by Heero far surpassed anything he could
imagine. Yet, as he lay there, true awareness of the situation sank in. If
Heero felt this way about him, why hadn't he come sooner? Why let him suffer
like this? Suddenly furious, Duo pulled himself away from Heero and leapt from
the bed.
"What the Hell are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see you." The same nasal voice, the same monotone. It just made
Duo more angry.
"And you couldn't come through the door during the daytime like a normal
person? Or maybe call and say you were coming? Ask if you were welcome?"
Duo's voice had dropped, and was deceptively calm.
"I was afraid you wouldn't want to see me."
"I don't want to see you. You can drag your sorry carcass right back out the
way it came. It doesn't matter why you're here."
Duo was considering going into a full fledged rant when he saw Heero's
expression clearly for the first time. There were too many emotions to count,
and Duo was suddenly afraid that he'd gone too far, that Heero might actually
kill him this time.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see the
look in your eyes}
Frozen in place, his fury gone, Duo could only watch Heero advance on him.
When Heero suddenly jerked him into his arms, holding him tight, Duo wasn't
sure what to think or feel. Then when Heero kissed him, he didn't even try to
think, he just enjoyed. Heero kissed him thoroughly, pulling away only a few
inches when they were both breathless and trembling. Then Heero began to
speak.
{And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together}
Duo couldn't believe his ears. Heero was expressing himself. And not only
that, he was expressing how he felt about Duo. It was amazing, mind blowing, a
personal miracle. //There must be a God.// Tears of happiness filled Duo's
eyes, and he buried his face against Heero's chest. He almost expected to wake
up at any moment and find it was all a dream.
{Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround, Every now and then I know you'll never be the boy you always wanted to be
Turnaround, Every now then I know you'll always be the only boy who wanted me
the way that I am}
Heero tilted his head up, and their lips met again. Tears filled Duo's eyes at
the tenderness, and he clung tightly to Heero. So many unrealized fears were
being washed away, he almost couldn't cope. Almost drowning in the complete
and unconditional acceptance, Duo briefly mourned the lost time, but the sheer
joy of the moment pushed the grief aside. Heero's arms tightened around him,
his low voice murmuring a steady stream of endearments.
{Turnaround, Every now and then I know there's no one in the universe as
magical and wondrous as you
Turnaround, Every now and then I know there's nothing any better and there's
nothing that I just wouldn't do
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart}
The enormity of the moment overcame Duo, and the unshed tears slipped down his cheeks. //A dream come true.// He didn't realize he'd spoken aloud until he
felt Heero cuddle him closer. "Our dream come true."
{I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight}
