Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Um, Untitled As of Now ❯ The Beginning ( Chapter 1 )
A.C. 195
Five young men sat together atop a tall hill, some brooding silently, others chattering. Four of the boys were 15, one was 16. Heero Yuy, an unemotional youth with dark brown hair and cobalt blue eyes, watched his friend Duo Maxwell talk to Wufei Chang. Duo had always been the friendly one, his deep blue, almost violet eyes and welcoming smile had melted the cold hearts of many, including Heero himself. Duo's hair, nearly the same color as Heero's own, hung down to his waist in a thick braid. Wufei was being most unresponsive, giving Duo a glare and turning to talk to the oldest boy, Trowa. Wufei was a Chinese boy with a fierce temper. Those who crossed him usually died on account of Wufei's idea of `honor'. Trowa Barton, nearly as mysterious as Heero, stared at Wufei with his forest-green eyes for a moment before responding. Trowa had an odd hair style, with long bangs of mousy-brown pulled forward to stick out a few inches in front of his face. But the hair didn't bother any of the other boys, Trowa was just another one of them. The last boy, a Neo-Arabian noble with light skin and sun-bleached blonde hair, stared silently at the sky with his aquamarine eyes.
"Something big is coming," the blonde boy whispered.
"'Ey, Quatre, whatcha talkin' about?" asked Duo.
"I'm not quite sure, I just feel like something is coming. Something that could change our destinies, our future. I just don't know."
"Well, I wish whatever it is would just hurry up and get here!" Duo said. "I was getting bored anyway, I needed something big to come and amuse me." He grinned and gave Quatre a slap on the back. "Come on, get your head out of the clouds and enjoy yourself. It's not often we get a break from fighting."
Quatre gave a half-hearted grin. "Yeah. Thanks Duo."
Heero and Wufei exchanged suspicious looks. Trowa watched all of this and said nothing, choosing to see what the others would do.
Wufei, being the rudest, spoke first. "Quatre, you're going psycho." He snickered and imitated Quatre's lighter voice. "`Something big is coming.' Like what, the return of your sanity?"
Heero decided not to be cruel. "Wufei, Quatre's feelings have saved us before. I wouldn't doubt him just yet."
The boys all looked at each other, feeling a sudden chill. What was happening?

The Year 2001
Many years in the past, three girls sat on that same hill. Blonde-haired Regine Skrydon glanced at her companions. Sarrea Sedrin sat to her right, the girl's long hair glimmering in the late afternoon sunlight. The sun always made those golden highlights stand out in Sarrea's dark brown hair. It made Regine so jealous at times. But Sarrea, in turn, was jealous of Regine's beautiful green eyes, so it all worked out in the end. Sarrea's brown eyes turned away from the city in the distance and to her other companion, Taara Saffron.
"Hey, Taara, did you bring the pops like you said you would?"
Regine interjected. "How many times must I tell you, it's COKES!"
"Oh, hush Texan. It's pop and you know it!" Sarrea said, laughing. She was from the midwestern United States, and always insisted on pronouncing things her way.
Taara shook her dark head at both of them and sighed. Her ice blue eyes sought out the cooler, and she produced some soda for her friends. Raven-black hair hung nearly to her waist, and she pulled it back with both hands in annoyance. It was hot outside, and her hair felt sticky against her shirt and back.
"Did either of you two bring a hair tie or something?" she asked.
Sarrea grinned at her. "Aw, poor baby. I told you to get your hair cut before summer came, but noooo, you didn't listen to me!"
Taara glared at her and Regine laughed. Taara leaned over to give Sarrea a shove, and just as Sarrea began to retaliate, Regine gasped. Sarrea's hand went through thin air.

One minute she had been sitting with her friends, and the next she was hurtling through a black tunnel. She tried to cry out, but her breath was sucked away from her as she opened her mouth. Taara wanted to scream, to cry, but it was nearly impossible for one traveling faster than the speed of light. Colors flew past her, swirled around in the blackness, and she saw an end to the tunnel. Squinting her eyes, Taara tried to look ahead, only wanting this horror ride to end.

The five boys on the hill decided to leave and go home. While they were off duty, they shared a cozy little house in the small town just beyond the hill. Quatre told the rest of them that the town had been a great city long, long ago, but now it was only a small, inconspicuous village. As Heero, Trowa, and Quatre rose and started walking, Wufei started to follow suit, only to be tripped by a mischievous Duo. Duo, still on the ground, laughed and got to his feet, offering a hand to Wufei. But Wufei was never one to be forgiving. He got to his feet and started shouting at Duo.
"You dumb shit! What's your problem? Can't fight like the rest of us honorable people, oh no. You just go around getting people when they don't expect it, you weakling!" By this time, Wufei's Chinese face was turning that peculiar purplish color that meant he was extremely angry. Wufei continued to shout as he began punching Duo in the face. The other three were turning around to help Duo when something odd happened. A round, black hole appeared above Wufei's dark head, swirling furiously as it grew. Suddenly, a black-haired girl came hurtling out of the hole.
Wufei, who hadn't noticed the hole, was still shouting and punching.
"You piece of unworthy…" SLAM. The girl landed right on top of Wufei, knocking him out cold in the process. Duo gaped at his unlikely savior as her pale blue eyes met his own.
"HELP ME!" she shrieked.
Trowa and Quatre came to Duo's rescue. Trowa pulled the girl off of Wufei while Quatre talked soothingly to her. As she started calming down, Quatre asked her some questions.
"Who are you?" he said gently.
"M-m-me?" she stammered. "I-I'm Taara. W-w-where are we?"
"In the city of Raftar. We're in America." Trowa answered.
"A-america? There's no Raftar city in America!" exclaimed the girl.
Trowa and Quatre exchanged looks.
"Well, you're in it now," said Quatre.
The girl feinted.
Trowa shrugged and picked up the girl's limp body.
"We should probably get these two back to the house," he said.
Quatre nodded, and Heero bent to pick up Wufei. As they started back towards the city, Quatre turned to Duo.
"Looks like we got that something big, Duo, though definitely unexpected."
