"Well, that's everything," Heero said, finishing up the briefing. "I'm going to log the report." He excused himself and went upstairs.

"I think I'll go to bed," Duo said, stretching and feigning a yawn. He rose from the couch and followed Heero out of the room casually. The other three pilots bade him goodnight and stayed behind.

Quatre nudged Wufei. "I told you."

"I don't believe you." Wufei frowned at Quatre. "It's just coincidence."

Quatre looked at Trowa for support, but Trowa just shrugged. Quatre looked back at Wufei.

"Are you willing to put money on that?"

Wufei looked at Quatre disdainfully. "Of course. It would never happen. Not Heero."

"Deal." Quatre smiled sunnily. "If I don't have proof in one week, I'll pay for your next vacation."

"And if you do find proof?" Wufei was starting to look nervous. "What do I have to pay?"

Quatre shrugged negligently. "The satisfaction of proving you wrong is payment enough," he said, a mischievous little smile on his lips. "You want in on this, Trowa?"

Trowa shook his head. "But I want to see the proof."

Quatre laughed. "Don't worry. It's bound to be interesting." He left Trowa and Wufei sitting together in the living room and went to his room. Once inside he closed the door and went to the chest at the foot of his bed. He rummaged through the contents and came up with an extra micro-camera left over from his last surveillance mission. He laughed softly to himself and considered his options. He only had one camera; would it be better to install it in Heero's room or in Duo's? And how could he hide it adequately enough that neither of them would notice?

This would require research, Quatre thought And now was as good a time to investigate as any. He left his room and tiptoed down the hall, pausing briefly outside Duo's room. When he heard no movement from behind the closed door he continued down the hall to Heero's room. Holding his breath, he listened for any sound. He knew he was right, and he'd prove it to Wufei…

There! Quatre smiled in triumph as he heard a muffled sigh from behind the door. It was only logical, Quatre supposed. Heero's room was at the end of the hall, Duo's beside it. There would be less chance of anyone hearing them in his room. Duo's was next to Trowa's, and across the hall from Wufei's. Heero's was definitely the smarter choice.

So now he only had to gain access to Heero's room tomorrow and find a place to plant the camera. The technology in the camera was advanced enough to capture sound and picture and store an immense amount of data for an almost unlimited amount of time. It also had a remote that was usable for up to 100 yards from the camera, and would allow him to start the camera whenever Heero and Duo disappeared upstairs. When he was sure he had the proof he was after Quatre could simply download the info to his laptop and watch Wufei's face as he proved his point.

Gleefully Quatre hurried back to his room and went to bed, wondering how he could get Heero out of the house tomorrow.

As it turned out, Quatre didn't have to do anything at all to get Heero out of the house. When he woke the next morning and went downstairs to make breakfast there was no sign of the taciturn Japanese boy. Duo stumbled into the kitchen as he and Wufei were finishing breakfast.

"Morning, Duo," Quatre said cheerfully.

"Morning," Duo mumbled, heading for the coffeepot. His braid was unruly, his thick hair sticking out in several directions.

Quatre suppressed a smile. "What are your plans for today?"

"Um, I'm supposed to see some guy about spare parts at nine," Duo said, sitting down at the table with a bowl of cereal and his half-empty coffee mug.

"You'd better hurry then. It's already eight-fifteen," Wufei commented.

"Shit!" Duo gulped his coffee. "Heero's gonna kill me," he muttered, rapidly undoing his braid as he left the room.

Quatre watched him go. Perfect. With Heero and Duo both gone from the house he had access to Heero's room without interruption. Trowa and Wufei wouldn't care if he infiltrated Heero's bedroom. He smiled. Infiltrated… as if he was a spy after crucial data. Well, maybe he was.

He returned up the stairs to his room and picked up the camera. Checking to see that the hall was empty, he slipped down the hallway to Heero's room. Cautiously he opened the door a crack, making sure there was no one in the room. It was neat and deserted. He entered the room and closed the door behind him, ensuring that no one could sneak up on him. He had to act fast, because he didn't know how long Heero would be gone.

Where to put the camera? Quatre looked around the room. It had to be someplace inconspicuous, but at the same time it had to have an unrestricted view of the entire room. A corner would be best… Quatre looked down at the camera speculatively. It was really tiny. Heero shouldn't notice such a small object against the ceiling in the corner of his room. For one, he wouldn't be looking for it; and two, it was almost the same white as the walls. That was why Heero had chosen it for their surveillance missions. Quatre dragged Heero's desk chair to the corner of the room opposite the bed. He stepped onto the chair arms, balancing himself before reaching up to rig the camera securely and inconspicuously against the ceiling. He stepped down, satisfied, then returned the chair and retreated to his room. He pushed the record button on the remote and booted up his laptop, opening the a/v software to check that the camera was working properly. The screen came up with an overhead image of Heero's room, and Quatre hit the stop button on the remote. The screen went dark. An impish smile lit Quatre's features. He really should have bet Wufei something more interesting… but the proof he showed them would be interesting enough.

"It's getting late. I'm going to bed." Duo uncurled himself from the armchair and stood.

Quatre exchanged a challenging look with Wufei. "Good night, Duo," he said mildly, turning his attention back to the movie they were watching as Duo left the room.

They watched in silence for a few more minutes until Heero said casually, "This movie is terrible. I have better things to do." He said good night and left as well.

"Do you still think it's coincidence?" Quatre asked Wufei.

"Do you have proof?" Wufei asked. "The week's almost up."

"I should." Quatre went to retrieve his laptop, collecting the remote and hitting record. He hooked the laptop up to the television. "Do you want to see it?"

Trowa sat up straighter on the couch. "You really did get proof? How?"

Quatre gave him an innocent look. "It was easy."

He called up the a/v program and hit play.

Trowa and Wufei exchanged incredulous glances. "You planted a camera in Heero's room?"

Quatre flashed a playful grin in Trowa's direction. "Heero gave it to me."

Trowa shook his head. "I didn't think you were that devious," he said.

"I'm a Gundam pilot," Quatre said, piqued. "Why does everyone think I'm some sentimental moron?"

Wufei's surprised exclamation caught both of their attention. Quatre turned up the volume.

"Wow." Trowa's voice was awed. "I didn't know that was anatomically possible."

Quatre's attention drifted back and forth between what was on the screen and Trowa's and Wufei's reactions as they watched Heero and Duo frolic upstairs. When Heero and Duo appeared to have gone to sleep he turned back to his laptop.

"I've been recording all week. There's bound to be more on here," he muttered, pulling up another night. Trowa and Wufei were glued to the television and the sight of their colleagues' clandestine activities. Quatre sat silently watching, triumph and vindication racing through him.

"Are you enjoying yourselves?" Heero's voice cut through the pilots' preoccupation.

All three jumped, guiltily turning to see Heero standing in the doorway, Duo standing behind him with his arms draped over the Japanese boy.

"H-Heero," Quatre stammered. "Um, we were just…" He trailed off, looking to Trowa and Wufei, desperately beseeching them for help. Both of them studiously avoided his gaze.

"So, Wufei," Duo said with a grin. "You lost."

Wufei's eyes widened. "You… knew?"

"Of course we knew," Heero said contemptuously. "Did you think I wouldn't notice the camera, Quatre?" His gaze pinned Quatre to his spot, and Quatre fought the urge to squirm.

"So why didn't you just take it down?" he asked, trying to stand his ground.

Heero reached up and stroked Duo's arms. "Duo wanted to put on a show for you," he said, a strange smile on his face. "Didn't you?"

Duo contented himself with a lazy smile, his hands caressing Heero's chest.

"Duo can be quite the exhibitionist," Heero added as Duo's hands drifted lower.

They laughed as the other pilots fled. Heero moved towards Quatre's laptop. "I think we'll just keep these recordings," he said, looking over his shoulder at Duo.

"Of course," Duo purred. "Now that you mention it, I do feel like a little participatory viewing…"

Ten minutes later Wufei was sitting miserably in his room, listening to the double soundtrack of the recording and his colleagues' vociferous accompaniment. He made a solemn vow that he'd never bet Quatre anything again.
