The Dead Return

In the spring, the fresh bud rises,
Growing to full bloom, under a summer moon.
Autumn comes, and the petals slowly fall away.
During the winter snows,
A blanket of white covers the rose.
The spring comes again, and the rose lives again,
In the musky dawn.
~Another little poem thingy to go with this.

Wufei rushed into the room that the voice had come from. The room lay thick with the scent of fresh roses, and Wufei blinked a few times to be sure that what he saw was real.

Standing near an elegantly crafted wine cabinet, a tall man gently sipped his Champaign while admiring the red rose bud in his other hand. His hair was short, silky, and a delicate shade of brown that was strawberry when caught in just the right way by the light. Wufei's jaw dropped as he admired the man standing before him, taking in the familiar form in the tight dress pants and stiff white shirt.

"T, Treize?" Wufei asked in disbelief. Treize set down his drink and the rose, watching Wufei the whole time.

"My, my." Treize said, "It certainly is a surprise to see you here, Dragon." Treize gave a gentle chuckle, ridding Wufei of his self-control. The former gundam pilot ran over to Treize and embraced him in a tight hug, silently weeping into the older man's shoulder.

"Treize, I thought I had killed you. I'm so sorry! Please forgive me! I'd do anything to make it up to you." Wufei said, loosening his hold on Treize as the taller man's arms went gently around his waist. Treize gently stroked Wufei's back, allowing his former enemy to let out all his pain.

"I don't hold anything against you, my dear Dragon. You've always been like a son to me, and I'm very proud of you." Treize said as Wufei lifted his face to look into Treize's.

"You, you really mean that?" Wufei asked, drying his eyes on his arm.

"Do I ever say anything I don't mean?" Treize asked with a gentle smile that was returned by Wufei.

"No, you don't, father." Wufei replied his eyes locked with Treize's.

"You honor me too highly, Little Dragon." Treize replied, running a hand over Wufei's hair with a sigh.

"No, I don't honor you highly enough." Wufei replied seriously. It was then that Talia and Lee made their presence known.

"Wufei, on your knees." Lee said in a commanding voice. Wufei sank to his knees at Treize's feet.

"Yes, Master." Wufei said as he did so, his head down.

"Why did you do that?" Talia asked, glaring at Lee, who glared right on back.

"I don't have to answer to you." Lee said, and then turned his attention to Treize, "We're here for the weekly report, and Talia brought Wufei to tag along."

"Actually, my brother sent him along with me as a bodyguard." Talia added.

"Your brother?" Treize asked.

"Yeah, the overly famed Duo Maxwell, Shinigami, pilot of Deathscythe, so on and so forth." Talia said, rolling her eyes.

"Why did he send a bodyguard, huh? Why don't you tell Treize about that?" Lee asked harshly.

"Hey! That wasn't my fault! There was twenty-some of them and only one of me!" Talia yelled.

"Do not yell, Talia." Wufei said in a warning tone. Talia snuffed at him, folding her arms across her chest. Treize sighed.

"What happened, Talia?" Treize asked. Talia mumbled an answer, "Louder, please. I can't hear you." Treize said.

"I said I got gang raped again." Talia said her head lowered as she kicked at the carpet with her toe.

"That is it. I'm taking you off the street. I don't care what you say, that's the second time this month. You are off the street as of right now." Treize said firmly as Zechs walked into the room.

"She got gang raped again, didn't she?" Zechs asked with a sigh. Treize just nodded, gently placing a hand on Wufei's silky crown. Zechs looked down at Wufei in disbelief, "Is that Wufei?" Zechs asked, his eyes wide.

"It most certainly is." Treize said with a sigh, and then looked back at Talia and Lee, "Well, you came here to report, so report."

"It seems that most former OZ soldiers have joined the preventers or some security company or another. There are a few genetics companies beginning to build experimentation labs on earth. I suggest surveillance of all homeless and low income families in the areas near the testing facilities." Lee said, standing stiffly.

"My area was near one of the aforementioned testing facilities, and several homeless youth, often at the brink of puberty, have been disappearing. I suggest undercover investigation by a skilled agent who is prepared to accept the possibility of genetic alteration resulting from the mission." Talia added.

"Very good. Now, Talia, we are going to put you on a safe mission, one with very low injury possibility. You'll be working for a millionaire, being the contact between the man and us. His name Quatre Raberba Winner." Zechs informed Talia as Wufei's head snapped up, then he looked at Lee, "You will remain on your current assignment until we get another position for you."

"Good. I'm starting to get sick of being a hobo." Lee replied, while Talia merely nodded her head.

"Master, permission to speak?" Wufei asked from his place on the floor.

"Granted, stand up when you speak." Lee replied coldly. Wufei stood slowly, stepping away from Treize.

"I know Mr. Winner. We were gundam pilots, and are good friends. I could easily convince Quatre to hire her, and he has already met her. She was taken to one of his mansions for treatment after Duo Maxwell and I found her this morning." Wufei supplied. Lee nodded in approval, while Treize rolled the idea around in his mind.

"That will work splendidly. I do have one question, though. Why are you acting as though you are Lee's slave?" Treize asked Wufei.

"I am his slave." Wufei replied simply. Treize jerked his head back, his eyes wide.

"How can he legally own you?" Treize asked, bewildered. Wufei smiled at that.

"It is not legal on paper. I am his honor slave. I obey him so that my honor is not destroyed." Wufei replied calmly.

"I see. Well, that can work out well for all of us. Mr. Winner has been in contact with us, but it is difficult to keep up to date on both our activities. If you could get Talia a job with him, that would be perfect, if Lee allows, of course." Treize said, gesturing towards Lee with a hand, who nodded.

"Wufei, you will complete the assignment Treize gives you to the best of your ability. He will outline the full assignment. Until you are done, you may have down time, and remember, don't ever come looking for me unless necessary for any reason other than new orders." Lee said to Wufei.

"Yes, Master." Wufei replied, and then bowed deeply.

"Well then, let's go into my office and I'll outline the assignment." Treize said, then he and Wufei walked through a door at the back of the room. Treize took a seat on the chair behind the desk in the office, and Wufei sat across the desk from him. The office was plain, with white walls and very few decorations that didn't have a use.

"Now, all you have to do is get Talia a job for Mr. Winner." Treize said with a shrug, handing Wufei an envelope.

"If that's all I have to do, then what is this for?" Wufei asked, looking down at the large envelope.

"Just a little something I was saving for the end of the war. Take a look." Treize replied, leaning back and folding his hands, a smirk on his face. Wufei slowly opened the envelope, pulling out the legal document within. Wufei skimmed the document, his eyes growing wider as he continued to read it.

"You, you, when did you do this?" Wufei stuttered, his mouth hanging open once he finally got the words out. Treize smiled and straightened up in his chair.

"I did it as soon as the war with my daughter was over. I don't plan on ever contacting her, though. She seems happy enough without me." Treize replied, then in a serious tone, he asked, "If you don't want this, then I can burn the papers. It's as simple as that. You decide."

"Of course I want this! You, it makes you my father! You know I'm an orphan, and I really didn't know what I was going to do when school rolled around." Wufei replied, "This is like a dream come true! I needed someone to do this, and I'm glad it was you."

Treize smiled at his adopted son, "Well, I've changed my name to Treize Marquise, in honor of your *other* father, Zechs. I'm trying to keep the public thinking I'm dead, but it might not work for much longer. Be prepared for a swarm of reporters if it ever *does* get out."

"Of course, but I don't mind." Wufei sighed, a grin on his face, "Do you mind if I tell the other pilots?"

"No, just don't let them try to kill me. I'm out of the military business. Too many complications." Treize replied, "Now go, get that assignment finished. Come back with Talia next week, and we'll touch base, making plans for where we'll all be staying, schools, and all that fun stuff." Treize finished. Wufei nodded and walked out of the office.

"Ready to go back to the mansion?" Talia asked, and Wufei nodded. They went back down to the limo, and went back to the mansion from the drop off point.
