BRIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!! The steady and throbbing ring of an alarm clock brought the pair from their sleep.
“...Why did you set your alarm clock, Ashiya? It’s summer, we didn’t have to wake up so early...” Stated the groggy high jumper. Sano was in a rather bitter mood at the moment. Not only was he a young man who valued the amount of sleep he could gain in one day, but he had been having a rather enjoyable dream, as well. He had not wanted it to end. In fact, he could still remember it clearly, as if it were a memory of yesterday... the sandy beach, the pale moon, the stars that danced across the water, the light fragrance of peaches wafting through the air, ...Mizuki ... A blush colored his fine cheeks as he thought of his roommate.
“Stop thinking about it, stupid!” It was no surprise to Sano why mere thoughts of his best friend caused such a flush to appear on his handsome face. He was quite aware of his feelings for the short tomboy. Ever since that kidnaping incident during the school festival Sano had been coming to terms with the knowledge that he wanted only Mizuki by his side. Unfortunately, as if he was the protagonist of some tragic romance novel, there was a reason why he did not make a move.
The problem was, both young students attended Osaka High School, a renowned academy that is famous for its high academic and athletic standing. Osaka High School, though, is an all boys school.
“Sorry Saaaaaaano,”replied the sleepy girl, distorting Sano’s name with a yawn. “It’s habit, you know.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m going to take a shower.” answered Sano, who was quite willing to leave Mizuki’s presence. He had to, she looked so cute in his eyes wearing that a big white button-up shirt and plaid boxers in place of pajamas. His blush deepened as the brown-eyed nymph rubbed the sleep from her eyes, the sleeves of her shirt falling over her hands so only her delicate fingers could be seen. Sano then started walking briskly to the bathroom, his body tense. If he did not leave her presence, well....
“I might end up doing something I regret... ”
Mizuki had traveled to Japan all the way from America to attend Osaka High School, to see her idol, the award-winning Izumi Sano, jump. It was her dream to be by his side, and now she had accomplished just that. She was Sano’s best friend, the one person who had been able to convince him to jump again after he quit due to a debilitating accident. She also wished for more...
“But that’s probably never going to happen.... After all, I’m just his best friend. He thinks I’m one of the guys.”
Because of the awkward position that Mizuki had put herself in, she was incapable of revealing her true gender to her love. To the spirited scholar’s knowledge, the only person other than herself on the Osaka High School grounds who knew her secret was the school doctor, Umeda Kita.
With a sigh, the young woman quickly gathered her things to change. She had timed how long it would take for Sano to shower and change, so she could finish getting ready by the time he was done. It may seem like a quick and simple task, but simple things always seemed to escalate into full-blown problems for Ashiya Mizuki.
“Okay, he’s finished showering, just have to zip my vest up... Why won’t it go up!?! .....One minute to go! Why are pants so difficult!?! 30 seconds, ...why do shirts have so many buttons.... 10 seconds! Just one more!”
“Ashiya, you finished?”
“Done! C’mon Sano, lets go get breakfast.” With that said, the lithe brunette grabbed Sano’s hand and dragged him to the cafeteria.
******************************************************* *
“Hey Mizuki! I saved you a seat!” Bellowed the tall Nakatsu. Having waited all morning, the nimble soccer player was quite anxious to have the short cross dresser near him. While he would never admit to anyone but himself, Nakatsu was devastatingly in love with Mizuki. It was a shame he had no clue as to Mizuki’s true gender, as the knowledge would most certainly have saved him a lot of grief and confusion.
“All right, be there in a minute! Sano and I are going to get some food.” Replied Mizuki, flashing Nakatsu one of her blazing smiles.
“God, he’s so cute!” Thought Nakatsu. “No! Stop thinking about that!!!! Stop it! Stop it! He’s your best friend, and a HE!!!!” Similar thoughts continued to play through the athlete’s head as he visibly admonished himself, sorrowful tears falling down his cheeks.
Mizuki, though, was glad that her good friend had saved her and Sano a seat. The room was packed. Most of the students would be leaving today for home, so each and everyone of them was filling up their stomachs in preparation for their voyages.
“That reminds me,” Mizuki thought. “I still have to find somewhere to go for the summer. I can’t go back to America. I don’t think my brother’s going to let me come back. And I can’t go to Io’s beach side hotel, it’s being renovated thanks to that awful storm. What am I going to do?!?!?” Mizuki suddenly lost her voracious appetite. Food no longer seemed so important in the young student’s mind.
So Mizuki sat there, depressed and miserable, while her chums devoured their meals. But while Noe and Sekime seemed unaware of the sudden change in their usually spirited little friend, Sano and Nakatsu were not.
“Hey, Mizuki, what’s wrong, not hungry? You’re okay, right? Right?!!?!” questioned the young athlete, growing more nervous with each word he uttered. Mizuki was his passion after all, it would not due for her to suddenly become ill.
“....Hmmmm? Oh, what....oh, no...I’m fine Nakatsu. Really. I’m just not hungry right now.” And with that said, the short brunette continued to brood. And while Nakatsu seemed satisfied with her answer, for the moment at least, Sano knew that something was amiss.
*************************************************
After breakfast was completed, Mizuki and Sano decided to return to their dorm room to finish their packing. As soon as the door was closed, Sano began his interrogation.
“Ashiya, why weren’t you eating?” He stated, going right to the point.
“Because I wasn’t hungry. You were there Sano, didn’t you hear what I said to Nakatsu? Or were you sleeping with your eyes open again?” Replied Mizuki, covering her nervousness with a small laugh.
“Ashiya, I know you better than that. You’d eat a hippo if you could. There was a reason you weren’t eating and I want to know it.” Remarked Sano, his midnight black hair falling in front of his eyes as he lifted a heavy box onto his desk.
“Well, ....ummmmm, it’s, well.... it’s .....” The young woman stuttered, crystalline drops of sweat forming on her brow.
“What is it?”
“It’s just that, you see, I don’t really, well... I don’t really have anywhere to go this summer.” Mizuki stated, now gaining confidence after the confession was uttered. “I don’t think I should go back to America, because my brother Shizuki may not let me come back. And Io’s place is being renovated after that freak storm hit it. So, I’m just not sure what to do.”
“I see....” Replied Sano as an odd warmth started dancing across his smoky grey eyes. Despite Sano’s cold yet somewhat sympathetic tone of voice, he was, in actuality, elated. He now had the perfect reason for Mizuki to stay with him during the summer. He had already phoned his mother, asking for permission like he did last year. He was certain that the young brunette would not refuse him this time.
“There also won’t be anyone to get in the way, like that bastard Makita from last year. Nakatsu won’t be there either.” It was safe to say that the young high jumper was ecstatic.
“You know, Ashiya, you could always stay at my house this summer. My mom already okayed it.” Sano asked casually.
“Really...?” The sylphlike maiden uttered. It would absolutely marvelous if she could stay with him. To think, entire summer alone with her idol, her true love. It would be ecstacy.
“But should I risk it? I think I could, since I’ve developed a pretty good routine with him, but... I don’t know... ”
“Let me think about it, Sano.” Mizuki replied meekly to his inquiry. “I’ll tell you my answer before your mom gets here to pick you up.”
“That’s fine. ...Oh, Ashiya, isn’t your laundry just about finished?” Sano asked, changing the subject.
“Yeah....”Mizuki replied, checking her watch. “Just about, it was just some shirts that needed washing, pretty quick and easy. Why?”
“Oh, I washed some of my sheets, and I figured if you were going down to pick them up, you could get mine as well. I’ll fold your clothes if you do.” Sano bribed.
“Sure! I don’t know how you do that. For some reason, I can’t. It doesn’t make any sense, it looks like the easiest thing in the world. Oh well, be back in a moment.” And with that said, the young athlete left, leaving the love-struck teen alone in the suddenly dismal room.
*************************************************
< br> Walking down the stark white corridors, Mizuki continued to dwell over her current situation. She really wanted to accept Sano’s generous offer, but the young woman was not certain. It was risky and dangerous, yet so ...appealing that she was having a hard time declining.
“Maybe I should. It’s not like there’s anywhere else I can go...” And with that thought finished, Mizuki made a right turn into the laundry room, colliding with someone in the process.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to! I wasn’t looking where I was going.” Mizuki continued to articulate, bowing repeatedly.
“It’s okay, Mizuki. I wasn’t looking where I was going either.” A familiar voice stated. Looking up, the short runner recognized the young man’s bleached hair immediately.
“Oh, Nakatsu!” Mizuki announced, getting up from her position on the floor. “I didn’t realize it was you.”
“Now what was that supposed to mean?” The soccer player inquired in good nature. “Does no one apologize to me anymore?”
“Nakatsu! That’s not what I meant at all! I simply meant that .... wait,” the nimble student stated, noticing the smirk that had appeared on Nakatsu face. “ your teasing me aren’t you?” Mizuki stated with a pout.
“He’s so cute!” Nakatsu thought. “Wait!!!!! Stop thinking about that! You should ask him now. ‘Mizuki, will you stay at my house this summer? It would be great! We could play soccer and video games. We could share my room ...and my bed...’ Wait!! That’s not how it’s supposed to go!!!!!!”
“Nakatsu, are you okay? Because your kind of turning red, .... and sort of crying.” Mizuki stated, her voice quieting with each word she spoke. But then again, she was used to her tall friend’s odd personality and rather peculiar mannerisms.
“Oh,” Started Nakatsu, blushing furiously. “I’m fine, ...fine. It’s just that, well, ...ummm, Mizuki. Would you like to, well, stay at my house this summer?” Nakatsu asked, nearly yelling the last part in one short breath.
“Oh! I’ll, well, I’ll think about it Nakatsu.” Mizuki stated. “Well, I’ll see you later. I’ll tell you my reply before you leave.” And with that said, the petite runner continued into the laundry room.
A little while later, loaded with newly cleansed linens, the youthful tomboy left the dismal room. Despite her task, though, Mizuki still continued to contemplate her predicament.
“So now what do I do? Sano or Nakatsu? I really want to go with Sano, but I can’t risk him finding out. He’s my roommate! Nakatsu would probably take the knowledge easier, I could always avoid him if it upset him.... but, oh I don’t know!” To say the least, the deft adolescent was confused. She had no idea what to do and very little time to make her decision.

Well, what do you think? Any good? I hope so, I would liked to eventually write a novel, sometime in the distant future. Now, I’m not going to continue my story until I get some feedback for it. Especially so since I’m going to have my readers chose what happens. So, what will it be, will she go with Sano, Nakatsu, or a certain mystery character? You chose! So please rate me!

Summer Liaisons
Sweet morning light shimmered throughout the small room, beckoning the two residents from their slumber. The early luminance would have a hard time accomplishing its goal, though, for it was the first day of summer break, and nothing short of the Apocalypse would wake Izumi Sano and Ashiya Mizuki from their rest. That is, except...BRIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!! The steady and throbbing ring of an alarm clock brought the pair from their sleep.
