Harry Potter - Series Fan Fiction ❯ Forever Is Today ❯ I: Goodbye Love ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Disclaimer: I do now own Harry Potter nor the creative plot line produced by J.K. Rowling. However, since I am a fan of Harry Potter, I do own my own plot devices and some characters I thought might bring out the originality of the story.
(A little info...Even if this is Harry Potter, a few changes are made. Dumbledore doesn't die, it was too sad at the end of Book 6. Also, the prediction of another war is put off till after seventh year. That's it, just those small changes. Just to let you know...)
Author's Note: Good day future reader, and welcome to my story. Technically, as a gifted writer, I finally found the time and the story to deliver. Thus, this is my very first chance at creating a Harry Potter fanfiction, so if you have anything to say, please give me your opinions. I'm open to anything, both negative and positive critism. Even if you would like me to add something here or there, that would help also. So please, if you can let me know and as a writer, I will obligate to your request. Thank you and please enjoy.
Pairing: HP/GW; DM/HG; RW/OFC
Warning: Mild language and violence, a little bit of angst, some hopeful suicide attempts (a huge maybe), and a yummy passionate make out scene (no sexual contents).

Four Months Ago: The summer of 1997
Ron thought with great sadness if he'd asked any of their friends how perfect Hermione and him were, would the tell him the truth? In his eyes, he thought they were perfect for each other, both of them attracted to the other through opposites. They even fought (to the point that drove Harry) just to tell the other 'I like you'. He would agree that they were the only couple at Hogwarts who could fight and make up quickly in one day. Even his best mate thought it was rather weird for them and he's currently dating his only sister, Ginny.
He couldn't be more happy with the development they went through for the last year and a half. They did everything together and he even devoted some of his time to study with her. Hermione was his guiding light through the dark tunnel he walked everyday. She loved him for him and didn't demand him to change. Ron felt grateful, actually relieved and he made a promise to her, only meant to be for her. He promised Hermione that they would be together forever since their bond was greater than most. When she agreed to be his and he hers, they sealed the promise with a magical bond and the only way it could be broken is by deception.
And it was broken and Ron felt his world dramatically change during the summer of their ending sixth year. Never in his life, he would have thought, Hermione of all people would deceive him. That hurt him the most...
"I-I don't understand why you're doing this, why now?" He mumbled, he tried to hide his agony that crept up into his voice, but he failed. This was just too painful to remain calm.
Hermione turned away from Ron's hurt filled eyes as she looked across the field. In her mind, she thought of the perfect opportunity to end their relationship. She knew the consequences that would follow, but she prepared herself for the worst. Don't get her wrong, she loved Ron the only way a girl could love her boyfriend. She cared for him so much that doing this would end the year long pain she started to feel. She knew the love Ron felt for her was different and she couldn't return it.
Every time she would look into his innocent green eyes, she saw nothing but her. She's not saying that its a bad thing that he's only thinking about her, but that was just it. She got tired of it just being her and him, she never had time to be with her other friends. It was suffocating her to the point that she thought she was going to die without air. Just being with him was a bother and the moment she realize it, she regretted those words. Now, here they were, outside of Hogwarts on the last day before school ended and she was slowly destroying him.
Ron stood there for awhile, his world at absolute lost at what Hermione just told him. No matter how many times he asked her, she would just repeat the same thing over and over, 'I'm sorry, Ron, it's over.' Tears sprung in his eyes, but he held them back with seer willpower and pain. It's like right now he couldn't think straight or comprehend the meaning of 'breaking up'. He knew whatever the reason for their ending, he was the cause. Didn't he do everything right? Didn't he devote his life, his heart, his time just to make her happy? What did I do wrong to cause such pain? He tried to process all the possiblity for the sudden goodbye, deleting the plans he made for them this summer.
At first, he thought that maybe, just maybe Hermione found another guy to be with. That she prefere someone who liked to read and study, instead of someone who is just plain lazy and stupid. He nodded slowly at that conclusion, his eyes stared holes into the back of her head. Another possiblity he created was the fact she wasn't happy in their relationship. Somehow, he did something wrong and she got tired of him. He felt at lost when he wondered through a list of memories to see if he noticed any slip-ups. When he didn't and that left him confuse. Didn't he act just like a boyfriend should, loving and kind?
Once again, through the agony he felt more of, he asked her again. "Please, Hermione tell me what I did wrong? Why do we have to end it over a small mistake? I'm sorry, please don't leave me." His voice started to crack, he was close to tears.
Hermione lowered her head as she brought her hands over her ears. She didn't want to hear him, she felt her heart ripping into two just by the sound of his soon to be sobbing voice. "Just stop it! JUST SHUT UP, RON! WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT I DON'T WANT TO BE WITH YOU ANYMORE! I DON'T LOVE YOU! I NEVER DID AND I NEVER WILL!" She shouted to him as tears poured down her face. She dropped her hands and turned to him, her eyes glared resentfully at him. She hated him, she hated him for making her feel this way. She felt dirty under his scrutinizing gaze and wicked by his pleading voice. "I hate you...I hate you! WHY DID YOU EVEN HAVE TO LOVE SOMEONE LIKE ME!"
He couldn't hold his tears back any longer and just like a dam, they broke against the stronghold barrier. One by one they slid down his cheek and dripped onto the patches of grass below. He heard it for himself, she hated him, her eyes held resentment against him. She was never happy with him and for that she used him. She used him and made him confess his true feeling for her. She made him promise that they will be together forever and just like that she broke it.
He felt the moment of her confession break their magical bond. Like a thin sheet that was placed over his head, it removed itself and vanished. As it disappeared, he felt his body become cold with ache. The warmth he used to feel diminished, it was the only life force he had to even consider he was alive. When the warmth left, so did his happiness. He forced his eyes to close, too painful to stare upon the face of his betrayer. Darkness he once fought off returned to his dying body and covered him with the blanket of insecurity. Ron felt numb, he thought that maybe it was from the coldness.
"If you hated me so much," He paused when the lump returned and swallowed it back down. "Why did you wait till now to tell me? Why did you lead me on?" He asked her, not understanding why he continued to even bother her with questions. Did he suddenly become masochistic and wanted her harsh words to stab him in the heart more?
Brushing her tears away harshly with the back of her hand, Hermione kept glaring at him. "Stop asking the same question, Ron! It's over between us and I don't need to explain why I don't want to be with you."
His eyes snapped opened and for the first time, he felt angered. "I have the right to know! You may not care about your own damn feelings, but what about mines? Did you even think about what would happen to me if you did this?"
"Yes, I have and this is why I'm doing it! It wouldn't work out, trust me. For a year, I've been thinking and wondering why I even agreed to go out with you. I don't love you, not like the way you wanted me to. Yet, you couldn't see my discomfort of being around you. You were too caught in your own selfish tendencies to notice anything about me." accused Hermione as more tears pushed their way down.
Ron's pressed lips went into a thin line as he gave her a confused look. "How was I selfish when I did everything you wanted me to do? You wanted me to study, to improve my grades and I did what you wanted me to. You wanted me to stop eating like a pig and act like I had table manners and I did what you said. And you accused me of being selfish, no Hermione, you're the selfish one! I had never asked you to do one thing for me, not one!"
"Look, just except that facts, Ron. It's over between us, so just let it go." She ignored him, to end the conversation. Just over the hill, she could hear some of the students emerge outside and she didn't want anyone to see them like this.
"Whatever," He mumbled angrily as he turned his back to her. He brushed his tears away, realized they didn't deserve to wasted on someone like Hermione. With one last glance back, he showed her his dark side, his eyes reflected pure hatred. "Don't you ever assoicate yourself around Harry and me again. I had just seen what kind of person you are, and technically the title 'bitch' does suit you fine. Goodbye, bitch." Ron took off quickly before she could say anything to him. His heart literally dropped back where he once stood. She could have it, he no longer needed it.
Twice as angry, Hermione took off in the opposite direction as she soon realize her consequences were right. Not only did she break up with Ron, but she knew she had lost Harry as a friend. No doubt the other Gryffindors would hear what happened between them and they too would stop assiocating themselves with the likes of her. That made her break down more as she climbed the hill and disappeared out of sight...

Once the area was clear, a fifth year Slytherin girl emerged from behind the bushes, her gray eyes red and puffy. She didn't mean to stumble upon their conversation, but she knew something wasn't right. While she listened to their conversation, she felt sorry for the last person she considered giving sympathy to. He didn't deserve to be heartbroken like that, not by someone like Hermione.
He was right though, he did everything she wanted him to do and he didn't ask for one thing in return. She turned to the direction he ran off to and her heart swelled. She wished she could have someone like him and then maybe she wouldn't have to feel like she was worthless. Absentmindedly, her hand went over her heart, fingers clenched the fabric of her jumper. Why did her heart hurt so much for a person who wouldn't even give her a second look, or even consider an equal?
"Maybe," She heard herself whisper, answering the question her mind produced. "we do have something in common. We both just whispered goodbye to the ones we love." She turned away as she walked in the same direction Hermione ran off to. Her hand still clenched the ache her heart produced as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
