Harry Potter - Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sick At Heart ❯ Chapter 1
What's up? I'm back with a new fanfic. This time it's a Harry Potter fic. I had trouble coming up with a title, so I enlisted the help of one of my friends. Thanks Sammi-chan!!! This is a HarryxDraco fanfic, so if you don't like yaoi, just go away before you start reading.
Disclaimer: In no way do I own Harry Potter. My mother would freak if I did. (sigh)
Sick at Heart
by: Liz Night
A cough fit broke the near-silence of the potions classroom. Harry looked up from the cauldron, that was starting to bubble, to see if the person was alright. He felt sick, himself. His sickness, though, wasn't a physical ailment. He was in perfect physical condition. His sickness was of the heart.
Draco covered his mouth as he was overcome by another coughing fit. When It finally quit he was gasping for breath.
"Draco, go to the hospital wing." Snape said, as he walked around the classroom.
Draco hurried out of the classroom as he started into another coughing fit.
Harry looked back at his cauldron. It had been a few years since he had started to like Draco. He couldn't show he liked the Slytherin, though.
Draco had been sick for a week now. He'd lost weight and was always flushed. He'd refused to go to the hospital wing, for some reason, till now. Harry was really worried about him. He hadn't seen people get this sick since he'd lived with the Dursleys. Those people usually died, too.
Class was over soon and Harry left quickly. He didn't want to talk to anyone right now. He's go to lunch now. He was wondering if Draco was alright when he tripped over something in the shadows. He heard a few chuckles as everyone passed him by. He looked back to see what had tripped him and his heart jumped into his throat.
There was a person's shape in the darkest of shadows where no one could see it. Only one name jumped to his mind, but he didn't want it to be him. It couldn't be him. The person's arms covered their head so he couldn't see who it was. He crawled over to it. He uncovered the person's head and his heart nearly stopped.
What he saw was white-blond hair. Draco was unconscious. Harry checked his vitals. They were a little weak, but he'd be okay, if he went to Madam Pomfrey.
Harry put his hand against Draco's head and pulled away quickly. "Merlin, Malfoy! You're burning up!" Harry whispered.
He put one arm around Draco's shoulders and the other under Draco's knees. He stood and started towards the hospital wing.
"What are you doing, Potter?" came Draco's rasping voice.
Harry looked down, but kept walking. Draco's eyes were hardly open and he looked horrible.
"Just helping you, Malfoy," Harry answered. They were almost there.
"See that you don't drop me," Draco said. He shut his eyes and out his head against Harry's shoulder.
When Harry got to the door, which was closed, he kicked it a few times, lightly. Madam Pomfrey came to the door and opened it wide when she saw Harry holding Draco.
"Lay him on that bed," she said pointing, as she took her wand out.
Harry did what he was told and then stood a little ways off.
Madam Pomfrey did a quick diagnosis spell and then went to get a few potions. Harry sat down in a nearby chair.
"Do you know how this happened, Mister Potter?" Pomfrey asked, helping the sleeping Draco take the potions.
"No, I found him in the hall, collapsed," Harry said.
"I'll have to ask him what happened when he wakes," Pomfrey said. She returned to her desk and sat down, placing a potion on it.
"Mister Potter, you're welcome to leave," Pomfrey said.
"Yes Ma'am," Harry said as he stood. He walked to the door and was about to open it, when a very harassed looking student stumbled in.
"Madam Pomfrey! There was an accident in Transfiguration class. You've got to come," the kid said hurriedly.
"Potter, do me a favor and watch Mister Malfoy," Pomfrey said. "If he starts to cough again, help him take this potion," she pointed at the potion, then left.
Harry couldn't believe his luck! He was alone with boy he had yearned for, for years. Draco couldn't complain about it either, since he was sleeping.
Harry watched Draco as he slept. He noted that he looked even cuter, and innocent, when he was asleep.
What Harry didn't realize was that Draco wasn't asleep. He was very much awake. His eyes were open slightly.
"What are you staring at, Potter?" Draco asked, opening his eyes all the way.
Harry jumped. He had been caught! "You're awake?" he said, blushing a deep red.
"I'm talking, aren't I? Now answer my question," Draco said. He brushed some of his hair out of his eyes.
"N-nothing," Harry gulped, blushing deeper.
"Oh, so 'nothing' had you looking at me, like a lov-. Oh God. You've got to be kidding me!" Draco said, shocked. "You like me?"
Harry was blushing even more, and looked like he wanted to run, but managed a nod.
Draco sat up on the pillows with a little difficulty. He was in shock. All these years o hoping and wishing and what he had wanted had finally come true.
If there was such a thing as love at first sight, that was what Draco had for Harry. When he'd first seen him in that robe shop, he was instantly attracted. Back then he'd been confused about why he had feelings for guys, and not girls. He hid that fact for years. Finally, he had gotten fed up and told his housemates in their fourth year. They kept his secret without a second thought...
Harry's voice broke him out of his thoughts. Draco looked at him and realized he must have quit listening while he flashbacked.
"What'd you say?" Draco asked.
"I said that I'd go and leave you alone once Pomfrey got back," Harry said, looking down. He felt like he was going to throw up.
"No! Please don't," Draco burst out.
Harry crossed the room in a few steps. "Calm down, or you'll start coughing, again. I won't go unless you want me to," Harry said, surprised at the blonde's reaction.
Draco leaned back onto the pillows, but grabbed Harry's wrist, so he couldn't run away. At Harry's questioning look he said, "Sit with me."
There was plenty of room on the bed, so Harry sat beside the young Slytherin.
"Why so you want me here? I thought you hated me," Harry asked, confused.
"I used to hate you, and I still might. You gave everyone chances to be friends, but not any of the Slytherins. I'll admit, some I wouldn't like at my back, but not all of us are bad," Draco said. "As for why I want you here, I don't want to be alone, and well, I like you, too."
"You mean... You mean that-," Harry started to say, shocked.
"That I'm a homo and out of all the guys in Hogwarts, I had to be attracted to you? Yeah, that's what I mean," Draco said. He looked up into Harry's eyes and, not for the first time, noticed how green they were.
While Draco was looking into Harry's eyes, Harry's thought's were in jumbles. How could this be? How could his biggest rival, and primary sexual interest, actually like him? Then Harry looked into Draco's grey eyes. His eyes weren't grey, though, they were silver. They were also filled with what could only be honesty.
Before he lost his nerve, Harry gave Draco a quick kiss. Now it was Draco's turn to be shocked. That wore off quickly, though.
"Now, Potter, you do realize that kiss was over entirely to quickly," Draco said. He leaned forward and placed his lips against the Gwyfindor's. Harry ran his tongue against Draco's lips till he opened them. They broke apart for air a while later.
Draco's lips were swollen and his cheeks were a little flushed from more than his cold. He looked even cuter than always did.
"So... Are we dating?" Harry asked.
"Yeah, I believe so. What will we do when the rest of the school finds out?" Draco asked, leaning back again.
"Truthfully, I don't know. We'll deal with that when it comes," Harry said, giving another light kiss to Draco.
The door opened and Pomfrey came in. She set her bag on the desk and came over to Draco's bed.
"I see your awake, Mr. Malfoy. I'd like to ask you a few questions, please," Pomfrey said.
"Of course, Madam," Draco said.
"First off, why didn't you come to me when you first got sick?" Pomfrey asked, sitting in a chair near Draco's bed. She paid no mind to Harry.
"Ma'am, it was sheer stupidity. I thought it would go away, not get worse," he answered her truthfully.
"The other is, what happened to you to make you collapse in the hall and allow Mr. Potter to find you?" Pomfrey asked.
"I was on my way up here, when I started coughing, again. I couldn't catch my breath and got light headed. Then I just passed out," Draco said.
"Okay. Thank you for answering me. You're better now, so you can leave. If you have anymore problems, come and see me," Pomfrey said.
"Thank you, Ma'am," Draco said as he got up. Harry and Draco walked to the entrance hall.
"I have to go tell Snape that I'm okay, but do you want to meet later, since we don't have anymore classes, today?" Draco asked.
"Yeah. How about after dinner?" Harry suggested.
"Sure. See you then," Draco said.
They separated and went in different directions. Harry to Gryffindor tower, and Draco to the dungeons.
