Chapter 1: Love at First Sight
Lilium Prozec swung on the swing set. She was alone, not unusual. Ever since she had been caught speaking in Parselmouth to a snake, she was feared. The children who used to play with her wouldn't anymore, and it hurt her that nobody liked her.
But, unbeknownst to Lilium, a boy hid behind the bushes. He was behind her, his black eyes peering through the leaves. His greasy black hair added to his poor appearance, along with the jeans that were too short and the coat that was too large. The frock-like shirt made him seem to be wearing clothes from his parents.
Severus Snape, continuing to peer through the bushes, contemplated how he was going to introduce himself. He knew she was a witch, and that she had exceptional power for her age. He decided on his course of action and walked through the bushes, walking over to sit in the empty swing beside her.
Lilium looked at Snape with a tilted head, curiosity filling her. “Who are you?” She asked, not very good at making friends. Snape grinned. “I am Severus Snape. And you are?”
“Lilium Prozec…”
“Well, Lilium, it is a pleasure,” Snape commented, continuing to swing. Lilium blushed and looked away. She really liked him…And he hadn't been in her presence long…Or so she thought.
Snape jumped off the swing and waited for Lilium to get off hers. “Come on,” He began, “Let's go somewhere to talk.”
“My house is normally quiet. I'm not bothered…”
“Alright! If your parents don't mind, that is.”
“They won't care. They would be happy that I'm not bugging them.”
Snape and Lilium went to her house, where they talked for hours about themselves, answering questions and other such pointless things. Lilium was genuinely happy to meet her first friend, while Snape was equally happy.

Soon enough, Lilium and Snape were inseparable. They told each other everything. At one point, Snape and Lilium were chasing each other in circles around the yard, finally collapsing on the ground, panting. A few of the neighborhood kids walked by, talking amongst themselves before making their conversation loud as they paused in their walk. “Isn't that the Snape kid?”
“It figures that the only one she can find to be her friend is the boy who wears his mom's shirts.” This comment, apparently, upset Snape. The tree branch over the boys' heads cracked, falling on them.
“Cool…” Lilium commented, Snape staring at the spot in fascination. Lilium looked around to be sure nobody else had noticed. They didn't. Snape frowned slightly before he looked at the front door. “Can we go inside for a little while?”
“Sure!” Lilium led the way in, half dragging Snape. Snape sat at the table. “Aww man…” He said. He had seen that it was nearly sunset. “I'll come back tomorrow, Lily. See you then!” Lilium pouted at him but said in her most pouty tone, “Fine, but you'd better be back tomorrow…”
“I will, don't worry!” Snape dashed out the door and back to his house.

8 years passed. Snape and Lilium, after completing Hogwarts, had rushed to join the Death Eaters and Voldemort. Today was a day like any other. They were going to kill another Ministry of Magic person.
Lilium frowned. “There's something wrong here…There aren't any guards…” Snape held his wand at the ready. “I know…What's going on…?”
They found out all too soon. Lilium was hit with a stunning curse and Snape pointed his wand in the direction of the attacker. But he was hit from behind. Right before he passed out, he heard someone say, “The girl has the Death Eaters' mark on her arm. Take her.”
“Li…ly…” He managed to whisper before he passed out.

Snape woke up, soaked. Raindrops were pelting his body, freezing him. The earlier events came back to him and he struggled up to find where they took Lilium. He had to stay in a hollow tree until the rain subsided, though.
He went to a clearing after the rain, having already asked Albus Dumbledore to come and talk to him. He turned around, fear gripping him as Dumbledore disarmed him. He got down on his hands and knees. “Please…Help me find Lilium…”
“She's in Azkaban.”
“W-What?! How could they put her there?!”
“She's a Death Eater. Exactly like you.”
“H-Help me rescue her! I beg you!”
“You'll have to do something in return for me.”
“Something…In return…?” Seeing Dumbledore's grave face, Snape had his answer. “Anything!”
“Very well, then. Teach at my school and I'll do what I can.” Snape nodded in submission, silently growing cold on the inside from the dread.
