Harry Potter - Series Fan Fiction ❯ Step Step Step ❯ Dance ( Chapter 1 )

[ A - All Readers ]

Step, step, step, step

Swirl

Step, step, step, step

Jump

A simple 4/4

ONE, two, three, four, FIVE, six, seven, eight!

Simple!

…then why was she getting it wrong?

Hermione sighed and worried her bottom lip, which was already swollen and red because of her constant nibbling.

Step, step, step -

She sighed again and lowered her arms from the mock dancing position and allowed the aching limbs to drop to her sides.

The posture was simple, right arm extended allowing her partner to take the lead and left arm bent at the elbow (parallel to the floor, mind you) to grasp just behind the other's shoulder. This position was held until the jump, where her hands would move to his shoulders and he would lift her once before she slid her hands back to their previous position. There was a switch in direction once or twice as well, but she decided she couldn't be bothered with that.

Unfortunately, as Hermione was discovering, this dance was one that relied heavily on the lead and it wasn't as if she could just walk up to some random boy and ask if she could lean on him for a bit!

Biting again on her lower lip she returned her hands into the approximate position and closed her eyes, humming the song under her breath.

Step, step, step, step

Sw—

Cursing the girl opened her eyes and, while pouting, stomped the stone underfoot. She was currently in a rather abandoned room that was, by all appearances, an old private library. The books were dusty and falling apart but it was perfect for what Hermione wanted it for; a dance studio.

Deciding to have one last go, Hermione closed her eyes again and this time, as if it would change anything, began singing. Even though the words were entirely comprised of `la la la', Hermione had never claimed to be a singer and, by self-admission, would never become one.

When the appropriate beat began, she brought up her hands and began stepping around the library, deciding to focus on the 4/4 beat, rather than the embellishing swirls and jumps (which she couldn't do without a partner anyway, so really, why bother?).

Step, step, step, step

Step, step, step, step

Step, step, step, s---

A warm body appeared under her hands and a rough, calloused hand grasped hers, carrying her petite frame into the swirl before resuming the steps. Eyes wide, Hermione could only stare at the famed Seeker as he released her hand to lay his rough palm against her waist, to sweep her up into the jump. Her hands instinctively went to his broad shoulders for support before she landed and they joined hands again.

Rather than stop (as this was the best she had managed to accomplish since she had started), she continued to move her feet in time with his deep rumbling hum that sent entirely inappropriate shivers running through her body as he continued the music.

“U-Umm, hello Viktor, I really wasn't expecting you…” Cheeks quickly turning crimson, she allowed him to continue into the swirl before continuing, “Why are you here?” Silence for three steps before he lifted her into the air, but rather than dropping her to her feet, he lowered her just enough to brush her ear with his lips,

“My mayka, my mother alvays taught me no beautiful voman should dance alone” Smirking lightly at her bright red blush, the Bulgarian let her down and pressed his lips to hers, pulling back to whisper again, the husky tones rippling down her spine,

“and you are very beautiful, Her-my-ow-ne” He brushed his lips against hers again, just a brief second of burning contact, before walking to the door and bowing her out,

“Vould you like to dance vith me?” A hidden message. A playful smile danced on her lips and she glided forward as well, curtsying to him in the doorway.

“Of course”
