Chapter 3: The Fated Dragon
“So… You are finally here…”
A ray of light shone in the distance.
A robed figure coupled with a pair of wings appeared in front of him.
A Draconian…
Van stumbled backwards upon the appearance of the winged figure. Gathering his wits and courage, he turned to the figure and demanded, “Who are you!”
Suddenly, two more winged figures appeared beside the current one. Instead of getting angry after hearing his demand, they giggled?
`Wait, giggles?' Van stared at the figures in shock. Initially, he had the impression that those figures were men, despite having seen their long hairs, because of the aura of confidence and authority that they carried. But now, hearing the feminine voices that came from those three figures, there was no doubt that those three are females.
Breaking the stunned silence that had enveloped them, the first figure to arrive greeted, “It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Van Fanel.”
“Harry Potter.” Echoed the second figure.
“Child of Destiny.” Followed by the third figure.
“My name is Urd, goddess of the past.” The first person continued.
“And mine is Verdandi, goddess of the present.”
“Finally, mine is Skuld, goddess of the future.”
`Goddesses?! I've heard of them before… From Mother… I remember her saying something about them being the Sisters of Fate who are responsible for weaving the tapestry of time...But why have they come to me? Wasn't my destiny over and done with already? And why are they calling me Harry Potter? Urgg! There are so many questions that I would like to ask them… I better introduce myself first…'
Then Van snapped out of his daze before bowing deeply, and said respectfully “It is an honor to meet you, Sisters of Fate. My name is Van Fanel, King of Fanelia.”
After pondering for a moment, he chose his question carefully, “Pardon my rudeness, but why have you brought me here?” Confusion evident on his face.
A musical laughter filled his ears.
“Always direct and to the point, Van Fanel.” The goddess of the past, Urd stepped forward.
“The reason we,” pointed to the three of them,” brought you here to your mindscape -“
“Wait a minute, my mindscape?” Van interrupted her.
“Yes, Van Fanel. Your mindscape.” Glaring at Van, annoyed at being interrupted, before continuing “The reason why we brought you here is because of this.”
She waved her hand to the space in front of her, and a mirror shimmered into existence. Images then started flashing quickly, one after another, within it.
“A couple of years ago, on the mystic moon, a dark lord plagued the wizarding community of Britain. He started killing muggles, or as you know, non-magical folk, in an attempt to keep the wizarding blood `pure' from any muggle `taint'.”
At this, the three sisters simultaneously let out an ungodly like snort expressing their amusement at the situation.
“That dark lord's name is Tom Marvolo Riddle, but everyone else knew him as Voldermort. Almost all of the inhabitants in the Wizarding community of Britain feared to speak his name, save for a rare few. But before you once again interrupt me, yes, he was that feared due to his actions.” Urd glared at Van as he was about to ask a question that would have interrupted her `speech', again.
Van ducked his head and his face turned a scarlet red in embarrassment while he silently swore to himself to keep his cat-like curiosity and mouth in check in front of her.
Behind Urd, the other two sisters exchanged knowing looks before sighing in exasperation but kept quiet allowing Urd to continue giving Van the history lesson he would need if he was to ever integrate back into the wizarding society and fulfill the prophesy.
Glaring at Van once again just to assure that he wouldn't interrupt her once more, she continued “And it didn't help that many in their ministry was corrupt while the majority of the population were a bunch of gullible fools, believing whatever nonsense that the ministry sprouted. But when he was at the peak of his powers, something happened. A prophesy was made. It foretold that a child born from two who had defied him trice and lived was going to be his ultimate downfall. And just as the prophesy had predicted, he was defeated by a baby, no more than a year old. A baby called Harry Potter.”
Many questions plagued his mind. But Van, in fear of what may happen to him if he tried to interrupt Urd again, dare not voice out his question and started fidgeting on the spot.
Verdandi, seeing his discomfort at even trying to ask Urd a question after what had happened, took pity on him and explained, “Van Fanel, you must be wondering what has that story got to do with you, am I wrong?”
Van shook his head.
“Well, the story did not just end there. While many in the wizarding world rejoiced at the defeat of the dark lord, many of his loyal followers did not.”
Van then raised his hand meekly, seeing Verdandi nod her head as an indication for him to continue, he spoke “But if the dark lord Voldermort has fallen, the rest of his followers would either disband or be caught, wouldn't they?”
“Yes, they would have, IF the dark lord had truly died that fateful night.”
“By `if' do you mean-”
Nodding her head solemnly, “Yes, the dark lord never did die that night. His body was merely destroyed due to many rituals that he had subjected himself to during his rise, but his spirit still continues to wander the earth. So if any of his followers ever find a way to recreate his body, then he would rise again and all who oppose him will perish.”
“But what has that got to do with me? All that happened in the mystic moon, but I on the other hand, am on Gaea.” Van questioned.
Ignoring his question, Verdandi continued “A man of great power, Albus Dumbledore, he too knew that Voldermort would once again rise. And so in order to protect the baby, he left the baby with his Aunt and Uncle, hoping that by staying with his mother's relatives, the protection left by his mother will strengthen and thus he will be safe. But unfortunately, his Aunt despised her sister, and we, upon looking into the future, knew that the savior would be in for a life of abuse and hardship if he was to stay there. Therefore we made a decision, and transported that child to Gaea, where he was adopted by the King and Queen of Fanelia and was reborn as Van Fanel, prince of Fanelia and second heir to the throne.”
Half-way through the explanation, a pit of dread appeared in his stomach, and as the explanation continued, that pit kept growing, larger and larger. And at the revelation that he was adopted and that he was the savior the story had revolved around, his legs gave way. With a `plop' sound, he fell to the ground, and lay there stunned at what had been told to him.
“You…you mean that-” Van started, but was unable to get his bearings together.
“Yes. Van Fanel” Skuld spoke for the first time throughout the explanation, “You. Are Harry Potter.”
“I'm…Harry ..Potter?” Forgoing whatever shreds of dignity that he had left, he fainted…
-----------------------------------------------------------
“Argg… What hit me?” Van groaned as he tried to sit up.
`I had the most unbelievable dream ever. Wizarding world, savior, being adopted… Who knew I had such an imagination…'
“Well, Van Fanel, like they always say, `Fact is sometimes stranger than Fiction'.” A voice piped up.
Eyes shot open and his mind suddenly cleared.
Van looked at his surroundings trying to make sense out of what he had previously heard.
“Shit… that wasn't a dream was it.” Van flopped himself back on the ground.
“Nope!” Skuld answered, entirely much too cheerful for his liking.
Not wanting to lose his temper at the goddesses, he took a deep breath, a very deep breath, before asking “Soo… if what you said was true, what do you want me to do? I can't possible travel to Earth, and even if I could, what about the language barrier? Because the last time I went there, no one other than Hitomi was able to understand me.”
Sensing his frustration, Verdandi answered “Don't worry about that, Van Fanel. We'll take care of those problems. You just have to worry about saving the Wizarding World.”
“What IF I am not able to save them?”
“Then the Wizarding World, even the rest of the world… would be doomed.” Urd answered bluntly.
`Great. It's either do or die. What lovely choices…' “Tell me something, from what you said, that dark lord is extremely powerful. Both in magic and his number of followers. So HOW do you expect me, a person who has NEVER even touched a magic book at all, to actually defeat a Dark Lord when so many other wizards, more powerful than me, have TRIED and FAILED!!” Van's temper has just reached it's boiling point.
“Calm Down! Relax… We've told you, do not worry. Before you were eleven, Dumbledore did not even bother to check on you so he did not realize that you had disappeared yet. So we are going to throw you back in time, into your eleven year old body, alter some memories and then you can have some more time to study magic. 5 more years if you want to be exact” Verdandi explained calmly.
“So, if you put it that way, what do I have to do?” Van questioned.
All you have to worry about is saving the Wizarding World. We'll give you memories of your `supposed' childhood and how you are supposed to behave.” reassured Verdandi.
“…What about Hitomi? I can't just leave her like that!!” Van frantically looked at the goddesses, hoping for some answer.
“I was wondering when you were going to ask that.” Urd smirked, “Don't worry, technically, you wouldn't be leaving her at all. As at this moment, you are also on earth doing your sixth year at Hogwarts, provided you accept to save the Wizarding World of course. If do you accept it, you won't entirely be without benefits either. You would be able stay on the mystic moon with Hitomi without any worries. And you would also be able to travel freely between thee mystic moon and Gaea. You just need to appoint someone you trust to be in-charge when you are gone.”
“I see…” Taking a deep breath, and making his decision “I accept. Soo… what do I have to do?”
The three sisters looked at each other, before smiling in unison, “We will just send you to earth in a moment. As for your country, do not worry, we will leave dreams like this to all your council members as well as your friend Merle.”
Relieved that his country and its citizens are in good hands, he bowed deeply “Thank you very much.”
“It should be us who should be thanking you, Van Fanel. Without you, the earth would have been doomed. But you must remember, you MUST NEVER go back to Gaea before your sixth year. As at that time, your younger self would still be on Gaea. As this has been said, we bid you farewell, and good luck on your mission, Van Fanel.” The sisters said the last sentence in unison.
Spots started to appear in his vision, and it wasn't long before he blacked out.
But just before he slipped into unconsciousness he heard a voice say quietly “Be safe…”
A/N: I've decided to merge chapter 3 and 4 as they were supposed to be the same chapter and the only reason it wasn't before was because I was too lazy to it type all in one shot. ^^
Ever since the beginning of the term I've been bombarded with homework by my teachers and although school hasn't restarted for a month, I already had 3 tests and another 5 more scheduled. So I hope you would understand when I say that I will be very busy and would not be able to post up the next chapter for this story anytime these weeks.
But don't worry, in 2 weeks time once my workload is lessened or when I find someone who is willing to type the chapters for me, the next chapter for this story, Aishiteru and The more the merrier will be posted up. ^^
So pls read and review!!
