Harry Potter - Series Fan Fiction ❯ werewolf chronicles: Chamber of Secrets ❯ Chapter 2 ( Chapter 3 )
[ A - All Readers ]
These are probably pointless as no one sure as hell reads these things *sighs* But I'm going to do it anyways.
NOTES: First off, I do not own Harry Potter, nor am I making any sort of profit off this work - the world of Harry Potter belongs to J.K Rowling!
Second, this will follow closely to the original plot J.K. has laid down in her books but the whole story is told from the view point of my own original character! So events and occasions will be slightly altered to fit my character into the picture! Thus the `alternate universe' genre.
Now then, boring stuff:
Rating: Appropriate for all ages
Spoilers: The Chamber of Secrets (duh)
Chapter Two: Hogwarts Express
The non-magical world was not quite as impressive as what she saw in Diagon Alley, but it amazed her all the same. Renee's head was turning this way and that, trying to take in all the sights; this was the first time she had ever been in London, let alone being on the surface world. The warmth of the sun felt amazing against her skin; even though the underground did have its own “artificial” sky, and produce the same lighting as the surface world, it could not produce the same feeling of the sun. Renee gazed up at the sky, putting hand over her eyes as she squinted up at the sun; her mother smiled behind her, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.
`It's beautiful, isn't it?'
`I wish I could live up here forever.' Irenee muttered something under his breath and Renee had to laugh; his mutter was most likely about preferring to stay underground, then walk among humans. Rosabella held Renee's hand tightly, dragging them through the crowds to King's Cross, pulling her trunk effortlessly behind her. Renee stared up between platforms nine and ten - she knew enough about the surface world to know that Platform Nine and Three-Quarters did not exist.
`Not the normal eye, it doesn't.' Rosabella whispered in her daughter's ear; Renee looked up at her, in the middle of loading her trunk onto the trolley. She stared up at her mother with questioning eyes, but Rosabella shook her head, gently taking her daughter by the shoulders and carefully walked them over to the divide between nine and ten. Renee blinked - just what did her mother plan to do? And in front of so many people?
`Irenee, stay close to me, and Renee - if you have to close your eyes, go ahead.' Her brother grumbled and Renee blinked; just what was her mother going to do? Rosabella began to walk them forward towards the wall - slowly at first, glancing around the crowds surrounding either sides of them. Her mother walked them faster; the wall drew closer and closer and her mother's speed only seem to increase. Renee closed her eyes tight - it was crazy - they were going to crash.
… The crash never happened.
Renee risked opening her eyes, feeling her jaw drop at the sight of a large scarlet steam engine. She looked up above her head, seeing the sign hanging above reading Hogwarts Express, 11 o'clock. She took a peek behind her, seeing the wrought-iron archway labeled Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
Grey eyes looked this way and that, trying to take in everything at once and so fast that she felt her head spin. There were many families - she could easily tell which ones were pure wizarding families; their dress (at least the parents) were un-matching and quite strange in taste. Rosabella let her hands slide from her daughter's shoulder, Irenee growling softly to himself.
`There it is - the train that will take you to school and back.' Renee shook her head clear, and worked on getting her trunk off the trolley and on to the train. She wondered how her mother knew how to get to this platform, and wondered if her mother's acquaintance with the headmaster - Albus Dumbledore - had something to do with her getting into school in the first place.
Renee leaned out the window - there was still a half-hour left before the train left without fail at 11. She talked excitedly with her mother - her brother only occasionally throwing in a shrewd comment or two about the magic-users around them. All too soon the whistle sounded, giving one last warning that students needed to get themselves on the train. Renee gave a quick goodbye air-kiss to her mother, and a wave to her brother. Rosabella wished her luck, and Irenee just gave a stiff wave. Renee stayed at the window as the train began to pull away, only finally looking for a seat when she could no longer see her mother and brother - even with her advanced sight.
Walking down the small hall, she passed by the compartments, hoping to find an empty one - or at least with a seat. The front two compartments seemed to be reserved for certain students, so Renee avoided those and watched out for the rest after - most which seemed to be full. Finally, she came across one that was not completely empty, but at least had a spare seat or two; Renee slid the door back nervously, peeking in.
`Um… c-can I sit here? It's full everywhere else.' The two girls who looked exactly alike, and another girl sitting with them, all turned their heads and smiled at her.
`Sure!' One of the look-a-like girls replied; Renee nodded, closing the compartment door behind her, and sat herself far in the corner. She stared out of the window across from the girls, only half listening to their conversations; she snapped her head up when one of them directed a question to her, asking her name.
`Huh? Oh - um, I'm Renee - Renee Lockwood.'
`Oh! How cute! I'm Padma Patil - and this is my sister, Parvati.' The girl left to Padma waved and smiled; Renee waved timidly back, feeling a small smile form on her face. The last girl sitting next to her held a hand out, which Renee shook hesitantly.
`Lavender Brown. Your first year at Hogwarts?' Renee nodded; she wondered what year Padma, Parvati and Lavender were in.
`Oh don't worry - it's such a great place! You'll love it!' Padma exclaimed.
`What house do you think you'll be in?' Parvati piped in; Renee blinked.
`I'm sorry, but - what's - house?' All three blinked at her; Renee shrank back against her seat - was she suppose to know these things? What if she just made herself look stupid - and she barely even got to the school yet. But none of them seemed to think so; Padma waved a hand as though it was nothing.
`Oh, guess you're not from a wizarding family. Hogwarts students are divided into houses. There's Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin.' Padma pointed to herself. `I'm in Ravenclaw; Parvati and Lavender are in Gryffindor. I'm a little disappointed Parvati and I didn't end up in the same house.' Renee could only stare - her mother hadn't mentioned that there were houses students were put into; which brought up a whole new set of worries to her palette… how did they decide where to place a student? Renee felt a panic grip her heart - did she have to do a test? Would she have to perform magic - in front of everyone? Lavender seemed to be reading the fear on her face, as she reached over to pat her assuringly on the shoulder.
`Oh don't worry about the Sorting. They use the Sorting Hat to put you into houses.'
`Sorting - hat?' Renee blinked.
`It's just a silly old wizard's cap; everything will be fine.' Parvati assured her; Renee nodded her head. She was feeling better - at least she didn't have to perform magic right off the turn, but she still felt worried. The conversations continued, Padma occasionally dragging Renee into the topic - but the topics were usually related to magic or school work, so Renee could only listen. Evening began to fall as the train slowed to a stop into the station in Hogsmead. They had changed into their school robes before hand. Renee stepped off the train with the twins and Lavender on the dark platform; Padma pointed out the castle in the distance and Renee looked up. So that's Hogwarts? She thought to herself.
`Firs' Years! Firs' Years over here!' Renee heard a voice booming over the crowds of students, and she stood on her tip-toes, though it probably wasn't necessary as she could easily see the owner of the voice. She watched as many of the first year students - like her - were staring up at him either intimidated, awed, or simply thunder-struck by his size and appearance. He was at least twice the size of a normal man, with a thick bush of wild hair covering his head, and an equally bush, scruff bread; he wore a thick coat, which Renee could faintly smell as moleskin. He was gesturing towards the lake which stretched out before the castle in the distance. The twins and Lavender apologized to her, saying since they were second years, they could ride in the carriages; Renee only smiled, saying she would see them inside. They wished her luck, and Renee scrambled after the others to the lake to get into a boat.
`Everyone in? Remember - four to a boat! FORWARD!' The boats lurched forward; Renee watched the dark water - she had heard that a giant squid lived in the lake, she wondered if it was true. She glanced briefly around at the three other first year students sharing the boat with her; a redhead girl (something was familiar about this girl), a girl with dirty-blond hair, and mousey-hair boy, who apparently was having a hard time sitting still. Renee focused her eyes back on the water, but finding nothing interesting popping out at her, she decided to pass the ride by watching the giant (who took up a whole boat) instead.
She stared up with everyone else at the castle as the boats drew nearer and nearer to a cliff. She briefly heard the man yelling to duck their heads, and so they did, the boats drifting them through a curtain of ivy through the wide opening hidden behind. They wounded down a dark tunnel, which seemed to stretch underneath the castle till they reached an underground harbor of some sorts. They all clambered up the stones and pebbles, and up the passage way lead by lamp ahead. They soon came to the smooth, damp grass of the school grounds, coming up in the shadow of the castle.
Renee watched as she and the others crowded up around the large, oak front doors and the man infront raised a huge hand and knocked three times on the castle door.
