Disclaimer: * woman steps up to a podium overflowing with microphones * Ahem…I have called this press conference to read an official statement. I do not have any rights to Hellsing and its character as they belong to Kouta Hirano nor do I have any rights Inuyasha and its characters as they are owned by Rumiko Takahashi. I wish I did, but sadly I don't. Raven Luminare also does not belong to me. She belongs to EvilLilVixen, who has given me permission to use her. Serene Takeuchi is my own character, and I decided to let her loose in a fanfiction for once.

A/N: Just want to apologize for the fact that this is the third time I have revised this piece. I was not happy about how things were going (again!) so I decided to change it. For the people who have been following this story, I thank you for your support. BTW, I finally got my beta back! Before you read this story, I just want to let you know that Alucard will be wearing contacts for the majority of the story (trust me, his red eyes do return).

Chapter One: Busting Out

If someone asked twenty-five year old Serenitis “Serene” Anastaciya Takeuchi where she would be five years after graduating college with honors, being in jail would have been the last thing she would consider using to answer. However, due to external circumstances, this is where the young woman can be found at the present moment. It didn't help that her over-active imagination filled in the gaps within her mind when she stood outside the bars, but now that she was on the other side, her imagination was running rampant. The one-time lawyer looked around at her immediate surroundings to try and gain some sense of reality. Concrete blocks made up the walls of the ten by twelve foot cell that came fully equipped with a stainless steel toilet-sink combination, thick iron bars, and a less than impressive cot that is currently being used as a make-shift sofa. Serene closed her eyes and began to breathe deeply. Slowly and softly, she began to count aloud.

“One…Two…Three…Four…”< /div>

Raven Luminare looked up at her friend of six years and sighed. Serene was doing her breathing exercise again; the third time in thirty minutes. Honestly, this was better than some of the prisons she had to visit when going to see an informant. Raven sighed; this was not how she planned things to go when she went back to that little white house with yellow trim. She looked through the bars and spotted the generic wall mounted clock. It read ten-thirty. Her fourteen hour days went by smoother than this. First the attack, then the arrest, and now the bondsman was running late. She decided that after she got out of the cell, that she should have a nice drink before she retired to bed.

Minutes crawled by, only to be vocalized by the constant dripping of water from the faucet above the toilet. The shuffling of Serene's shoes against the cold concrete floor as she paced and the tapping of Raven's foot against one of the iron bars created an unique song that changed in pitch as the ladies' irritation level rose as time progressed.

Raven's foot tapped faster on the iron bars as she said, “Hey Serene…”

Serene stopped pacing and responded. “What?”

“Where the hell is the bondsman?”

Serene shrugged. “I have no idea. Seras told me she had to make one stop before she came to get us.”

Raven lashed out. “Well, what the fuck is taking her so long? It does not take two and a half hours to bail someone out Serene!”

Serene placed her hands in a defensive position. “Raven, please….just stay calm and everything will be fine.”

Raven growled in response.

Silence enveloped the cell and once again the stress-induced song was heard, only this time, it was played louder.
===================================================

The clock behind the booking desk read eleven pm. A man in gray slacks and a white dress shirt entered the police precinct and scanned the animated room with sapphire colored eyes. It was a full moon out this night and the station was packed with drunkards, runaway teens, and mischievous ladies of the night that were not clever enough to evade capture. The man silently hoped that the ladies he was sent to retrieve were not the any of people in the room at the present moment. He groaned, if only Seras hadn't taken that last call, then she would be here and not him. He approached the front desk requested the release of the two ladies. The female officer flipped through the book and located the two ladies in question. She called for a nearby officer to escort him to the holding cells.

When he reached the intended cell, he saw a very strange sight. Within the cell, were two women: one tall and the other short. Nothing strange about that; however, what was strange was the sight of the shorter woman doing a handstand in the middle of the cell while her taller friend sat with her eyes closed on the cot. He noticed that the taller woman's breathing was labored, as if she were trying to relieve stress. The officer knocked on the cell bars to get the two ladies' attention.

“Hey!”

Two sets of eyes, one green and the other pair brown, instantly opened and focused on the noise. The shorter girl proceeded to lean forward with her legs and quickly moved into a front walkover maneuver. She jumped onto the bars, scaring the officer. The two men shifted their eyes to the movement on the other side of the cell. The taller woman was standing and quietly moved to the front of the cell.

She smiled and said, “Please forgive my friend here. She's having a nicotine fit right now. Normally, she's pretty docile, but as you can see, she can get a little wild when she doesn't have her evening smoke.”

The shorter woman growled and tried to rattle the cell bars for effect. The officer rolled his eyes and opened the cell door for the women.

“You're free to go.”

The shorter woman hopped off of the bars and breezed out of the cell, almost knocking over the officer in her rush for freedom. The taller woman walked out of the cell in a timely fashion and held her hand out to the nicely dressed man.

The woman introduced herself. “My name is Serene. Since you are not Seras, you must be Alucard.”

The man seemed shocked for a moment. How could this strange woman possibly know his name?

The woman known as “Serene” smiled, as if knowing what he was thinking. “You are probably wondering how I know your name. Seras told me all about you, and you're the only other person that she would trust to come and get us.”

The man “Alucard” raised his eyebrow. If he were following the last statement, then it would seem like these two innocent-looking woman were troublemakers.

“Serene!”

The green-eyed woman turned in direction of the voice.

“It seems like Raven is waiting for me. Funny, I thought she would've rushed outside as soon as she finished getting her things to go smoke. She always seems to surprise me.”

The blue-eyed man nodded. “Then let's not keep your friend waiting.”

Serene began walking in the general direction of her friend's irritated voice with Alucard trailing right behind her.

===================================================

After filling out the necessary paperwork and retrieval of personal items, the trio walked through the sliding doors of the precinct. It was a cool summer night and the moon was full. Most of the stars in the sky were blocked out by the city's nighttime illumination, however, a few stars managed to shine brighter. Raven pulled a cigarette from the pack, whipped out her favorite lighter, and lit up. She inhaled deeply and sighed in bliss. Serene watched her friend and laughed.

Raven glared at Serene. “Shut up! I've been dying of one of these all night!”

Serene giggled. “I can imagine what you would be like if you tried to kick that habit.”

Raven puffed on her cigarette and said, “How do you think I got the nickname `Firecracker'.”

Serene shrugged. “I don't know…maybe from your fiery wit and criticism?”

“Serene!”

Alucard watched the two women talk from a distance. Using his skills as a bounty hunter, he tried to read the ladies. From his observations, he gathered that these two women knew each other very well. Serene was the “mature” one in this close friendship; however, her immaculate attire did suggest that she might be a perfectionist or mildly obsessive-compulsive. Raven was the “fun-loving” one that probably tried on a daily basis to create havoc in her friend's “perfect world”.

Raven took one last drag off of her cigarette and threw it to the ground. She stretched and let out a big yawn.

“Man, I need some sleep.”

Serene looked over to where Alucard was standing. She cleared her throat to get his attention.

“Yes?”

Serene looked somewhat shy and asked, “I wanted to ask if you could give Raven and I a ride home. I know you normally don't do this sort of thing but…”

Alucard cut in. “That will be fine. I have been itching to break some rules.”

Serene smiled at his generosity. Raven, on the other hand, didn't like this “Alucard” guy. He seemed quiet, too quiet for her tastes. It made her wonder if he had something to hide.

Alucard lead the ladies to his black sedan. Serene sat in the front passenger seat and gave him the address while Raven took a seat in the back. The bondsman revved the engine while Serene and Raven had a brief argument over the importance of wearing seat belts. He pulled out of the parking space and drove down the city streets. The drive was uneventful as most of the city's residents were in their beds sleeping, leaving only a few adventurous people to roam the streets and dark alleyways.

After a quiet fifteen-minute ride, the trio pulled into the parking space in front of a nice stonewalled townhouse with a cobblestone walkway. Raven stretched once again and stepped out of the car. She made her descent up the sidewalk to the oak front door. She pulled out her key and let herself into the house, leaving the door unlocked for her lagging friend.

Serene stepped out of the car and smiled at Alucard. She thanked him for his generosity and started up the walkway. Only when the door was shut did Alucard pull out of the parking space and start his journey home.

=====================================================

Alucard arrived at his parking garage and shut off the vehicle. He stepped out, armed the alarm, and walked towards the elevators. When he reached them, he pressed the button to open the doors and stepped inside. After pressed the appropriate button for his floor, the elevator jarred with life as it began to rise. Alucard leaned against the wall as questions began around in his mind. Why was the “infamous” Serenitis Takeuchi in jail? Why didn't she use her law expertise to get herself out instead of calling a bailbond? What did the other woman have to do with it? The elevator pinged softly, alerting him that he had reached his floor destination. As the doors slid open, his thoughts still remained unsettled. He walked down the hall and stood in front of his apartment door. As the key slipped into the lock, Alucard was sure of one thing; something was wrong with this evening's scenario.

====================================================

Serene was not impressed by the evening's events. Even more so, she missed an important meeting she was supposed to attend, but those plans were ruined when she chased after Raven. Once again, her kindness and loyalty lead to her failure. She didn't know if she could come up with an excuse for her absence at the next meeting. Maybe Seras could help her out. She sighed to herself; now was not the appropriate time to worry about herself. At this moment, it was better if she spent her energy trying to find a way to get Raven out of trouble. Serene knew that Raven couldn't afford a decent lawyer to defend her, and especially one that was cunning enough to find an imperfection that would ruin the state's case. Walking over to her nightstand, she picked up her cell phone and glanced at the time. It was twelve-thirty. Thumbing through her contact list, she found the number she was looking for and pressed “talk” to dial it. She hoped that the person wasn't asleep. If she remembered correctly, this person was very grumpy when awoken from a deep sleep.
