Disclaimer: * woman steps up to a podium overflowing with microphones * Ahem…I have called this press conference to read an official statement. I do not have any rights to Hellsing and its character as they belong to Kouta Hirano nor do I have any rights Inuyasha and its characters as they are owned by Rumiko Takahashi. I wish I did, but sadly I don't. Raven Luminare also does not belong to me. She belongs to EvilLilVixen, who has given me permission to use her. Serene Takeuchi is my own character, and I decided to let her loose in a fanfiction for once.
Chapter Three: Busted
It was seven-thirty when Alucard arrived at the restaurant. He was promptly seated in a secluded section. When he arrived, he saw Sesshoumaru already seated and waiting for him.
Sesshoumaru looked at him. “You must be Alucard.”
The named man nodded his head and sat across from the platinum-blonde man.
“What exactly are your intentions?”
A feral grin. “Is it not obvious?”
Serene smiled smugly from the bed as she watched Raven search her closet for a stole to match with her dress. She had to admit, Raven looked absolutely stunning. The red dress was fashioned with red silk with a black silk band with red dragons embroidered within. Her brown hair ran a river down her exposed back and her bangs were held back with little red dragon clips. Her makeup was done and to finish the look off, she wore red slippers. On the other hand, Serene wore a green dress that brought out her eyes. The top part was an emerald corset top that had string lacing going across the front showing off her ample cleavage. The bottom part began with a dark green solid skirt that faded to an emerald green as it transformed into ruffles. Her long hair hung down in light waves and she opted to have a green stole.
Raven grumbled as she grabbed her black purse and walked out of her bedroom. “Let's get this over with.”
Serene smiled in response as she got up from the bed and walked out of the room. After turning off her own bedroom light and shutting the door, she joined an impatient Raven downstairs in the living room. The two ladies exited their shared home and approached the awaiting limousine. The driver got out and opened the door for the two passengers.
“All this fancy shit for a dinner?”
Serene sighed and rolled her eyes. “Raven, promise me you will practice some degree of decorum once we arrive at the restaurant.”
Raven waved her hand. “Yeah yeah yeah. I promise I won't embarrass you in front of your old partner.”
Serene put her hand upon her forehead and groaned. Raven's behavior was the least of her worries.
The luxury sedan arrived at the restaurant, Crystalline, at five minutes to eight. The two lovely ladies exited the car with the aid of the driver and walked as gracefully as possible to the front door. The doorman smiled softly and held the door open as the two beautiful nymphs walked past. Raven even threw him a quick flirty wink that made the young man blush.
Inside the restaurant, the two ladies widen their eyes and sighed in awe. Glass windows on the roof allowed for the moonlight to shine down the dancers on the dimly lit floor. Flowers and a candle were present on each table. Exotic smells glided around the air and someone's stomach growled.
“Fuckin' hell, I need to feed.”
Serene sighed in frustration at her friend's comment but changed her expression when she saw the approaching waiter. After introducing himself, he led the ladies to a private area were gauzy white curtains hung from the ceiling, enclosing a few tables. The waiter stopped outside of one of the sheer tents and wished them a good evening. Serene shrugged. It was now or never.
Alucard stopped mid-sentence when he heard shuffling behind him. Turning around, he was greeted by a lovely vision. The woman he had been pursuing, the one who he spent countless hours researching like a college thesis, was standing right before his blue eyes. She was even dressed beautifully. Not too provocative, but it showed just enough skin to tease his mind. The shorter woman with her, nicknamed “the Firecracker”, was standing with her hands on her hips with a small frown on her face.
“Ladies.” Alucard greeted them.
Serene smiled. “How do you gentleman do? It's a lovely night out tonight, is it not?”
Alucard stood up and pulled out a chair for her. “Indeed it is.”
Serene sat down in the offered chair. Raven, on the other hand, decided that she would seat herself. The brunette looked over at the tall white-haired man. He had an expression of…amusement on his face.
“What's so amusing?”
Golden eyes settled upon her. “I was thinking about how right Serene was on the phone. You are a little firecracker.”
A shiver rolled down Raven's back as the mysterious man called her by her nickname. She wondered what had prompted that reaction.
“Raven Luminare,” Serene began, “I would like you to meet Sesshoumaru. He's the lawyer I have hired for you.”
Raven put on her best smile. “Pleased to meet you.”
Sesshoumaru nodded. “Likewise. Well, I believe we should order.”
There were murmurs of agreement from the three remaining people as they picked up their menus to choose what they wanted to consume. After everyone finished deciding, Sesshoumaru called for a nearby waiter to place his or her orders and get a bottle of wine to go with the meal. As they waited for their orders to be filled, the four sat in a comfortable silence. Serene straightened the silverware in front of her. Alucard watched her movements carefully and placed them in the back of his mind for later examination. A wind carried the notes of a beautiful waltz to their table, breaking the silence.
Serene's green eyes lit up. “I recognize this tune.”
Raven raised an eyebrow. Serene did always like the “classics”.
“Ah yes…” Sesshoumaru started, “I remember this as well. Tell me Serene, do you have the urge to dance?”
Serene blushed. “You know me too well, Sess. Of course I would like to dance.”
Sesshoumaru gave a small smile. It fell right into his plans. “Well, why don't you dance with Alucard? I am sure he will prove to be a sufficient dancer.”
Serene seemed deep within thought for a few moments and then she answered.
“Yes.”
Alucard stood up from his seat at the table and helped Serene out of her chair. Then he bowed in respect and she answered with a dainty curtsy. Raven smirked at the exchange.
Sesshoumaru waited until the two had completely left the area before speaking again.
“So Miss Luminare—”
“Raven.”
“So Raven, Serene told me about your problem; however, before I can help you, I need to know everything so I can build my case.”
Raven sighed and took a long drink from her water yoke. This was going to be a long recount of events.
~Flashback~
An irritated voice. “No…no…NO!”
“Serene…I'll be fine! Don't worry…you know me, I always get my man!”
A sigh. “No, they don't know…Why?…Because I didn't tell them where I was going.”
“Serene, I know it's a serious violation of protocol but I have to go…my gut's telling me there's more back at the house…”
“Serene! You're not listening to me!”
Raven ended the argument by closing the phone. She knew her friend's heart was in the right place, but this time she would have to break the rules to get what she needed. The brunette sped down the road, causing the goldenrod, amber, and vermilion colored leaves to flare up in the car's wake. Raven could see the sky change to brilliant warm hues as the sun dipped below the horizon. By the time she reached her destination, the streetlamps were already casting their bright glow upon the streets below. Raven pulled her car into the driveway of a single-story house. It was painted white with a jolly yellow trim. The hedges that bordered the house were neatly pruned, and the deep green grass freshly cut. Raven turned off the car engine and pulled her gun and flashlight from out of the glove compartment. She got out of the car and locked her doors. Around her, the windows of the surrounding homes in this quiet neighborhood were illuminated as families sat down to dinner or to watch primetime television. Raven walked up the dark concrete path to the cheery yellow front door. The police tape was still intact on the door. The determined brunette knew that there was a good chance that no one has been
in the house since it was sealed.
Raven broke the seal by opening the front door. A burst of stale air overflowed her sinuses and she placed an arm up to block the smell. She turned on her flashlight and proceeded into the home. Shining the light around the room, Raven could see where forensics took out pieces of the carpet for examination. She passed by the kitchen, where the wooden knife block was missing one knife. Raven pressed on, down the dark, narrow hallway and stood in front of a single door. She opened the door and was immediately assaulted by the stench of death. Shivering, she swept the room with her flashlight, and then entered the main crime scene. She stepped into the room, being watchful for more missing carpet, and began searching. Raven knew what she was looking for. The woman she interviewed said that the victim had found some tapes. With those, she could finally pin the crime on the main suspect, a man who hasn't been seen since he was brought into questioning a few weeks earlier. Raven shuffled through some drawers, and as she was shuffling, she knocked a glass angel to the floor. It made high pitch thunk.
“What the hell…”
Raven picked up the angel and sat it back onto the nightstand. Raven looked at the corner and saw the carpet was loose there. She pulled on it and a large portion of carpet was peeled back. The wooden planks underneath were loose, and when she pulled them up, she found what she was looking for. Tapes…lots of tapes. Just like woman told her. Raven sighed as she finally found what she was looking for. She picked up a handful of tapes and placed them in a nearby paper bag. Raven stood and stretched. It was time to call it a night. She bent down to get the bag when someone grabbed her from behind and pressed a knife to her throat. Raven gasped as a cold, male voice spoke into her ear.
“You know too much now.”
Raven instantly knew who was speaking. “We've got what we need to convict you now.”
The man just laughed and ran his left hand down her side. “It's a shame I have to kill you. Maybe I'll give you something nice to remember before you die.”
Raven snarled. There was no way she would let some man have free-reign over her. She stomped down hard on his foot, and used her head to hit him in the nose. The man fell backward and clutched his nose. Raven turned around and ducked just in time as the man took a swipe at her with his knife. She punched him in the gut, causing him to double over in pain. Taking the opportunity, Raven kicked the knife out of the man's hand. Then she struck him over the head with her flashlight. She looked down at his crumpled form. There was blood coming from his nose and a small spot on his head.
“Asshole.”
Raven kicked the man in the face a few times to make sure she got her point across. She hoped that this man decides not to put his hands on anyone else again. Grabbing the bag of evidence, Raven walked out of the room. As she passed by the kitchen once more, she saw that two knives were missing from the wooden block. She tried not to think what could have happened and continued to the front door. When she opened the front door, she saw Serene standing on the front lawn. Her eyes were full of concern as she looked at a blood-sodden Raven.
Serene ran over to her friend and hugged her. “Raven! Are you okay?”
Raven nodded. “I'm fine Serene. What are you doing here?”
“I was so worried about you so I decided to track you down.”
Raven looked up at her taller friend. “How did you do that?”
Serene winked. “I have my ways…Don't worry about the ruined shirt. I am just glad you are safe.”
Raven smiled. “I got it.”
Serene nodded. “I can see that Raven, but whose blood is this?”
“We were going to ask you ladies the same question…”
Another unfamiliar voice. “Put your hands up where I can see them ladies.”
Raven looked behind her friend and cursed.
“Shit.”
~End Flashback~
Sesshoumaru appeared to be deep in thought and then he stated, “I can try a self-defense case. It won't be easy, but I believe I could make it work with the proper tools.”
Raven finished off the rest of the water in her yoke. All that talking made her thirsty.
In a rasy voice, she replied, “Yeah. That would be sweet.”
Sesshoumaru pulled out his planner from his coat pocket. “I am going to need to speak to you more about this issue. How about I pencil you in for Friday morning?”
Raven nodded. “Yeah, that will be fine.”
Sesshoumaru put down her name in his appointment book and handed her his business card.
Raven placed it into her purse as Serene and her dance partner returned. The waiter appeared with their orders and the wine.
“How wonderful. We are just in time.” Serene said to the quiet man across from her.
“Indeed.” Alucard replied as he looked at the food placed in front of him.
As soon as Raven received her food, she dived right in. She couldn't help herself. She wasn't lying when she said that she `needed to feed'.
The hours went by at it was past midnight when the two ladies were escorted home by Sesshoumaru. Alucard would have joined them, but he received a call that one of his targets was in the immediate area and needed to be apprehended. When the limousine arrived at the shared townhome, Sesshoumaru carried a sleeping Serene into the house. Raven told him where her housemate's bedroom was located, and Sesshoumaru took the sleeping beauty up to her room. Placing her on cool white sheets, he brushed a stray lock of hair away from her flawless face.
Returning downstairs, he was greeted by the sight of the shorter woman standing near the door. As he approached her, she began to speak.
“Okay. Tonight was nice but now you gotta go.”
Sesshoumaru stepped in front of her and leaned down into her face.
“What if I do not comply with your demands?”
Raven glared up at him. “You don't scare me—”
Sesshoumaru never let her finish her retort as he placed his lips against hers. He never expected a hand to slap him hard across the face.
Raven pushed him away with hidden strength and opened the front door.
Her brown eyes burned with rage. “Get out before I throw you out.”
Sesshoumaru straightened himself out and stepped out onto the porch.
“This is not over yet.”
Raven shook her head in the affirmative. “Oh yes it is.”
Sesshoumaru growled in defeat as the door slammed in his face. As he returned to the awaiting limousine, one thing was on his mind: making Raven Luminare his.
A/N: It just keeps on getting interesting. Will Raven get by with her defense? All will be revealed in the next chapter!
