Integral sat quietly at her large desk as she browsed through various sheets of paper. With a sigh she tossed them down and leaned back, her blue eyes staring up intensely at the shadowing ceiling. It was close to seven o'clock and she still wasn't finished with her paperwork!

She huffed and pulled a cigar from its box and lit it. It went to her lips and the tiny sparks at the lit end brightened when she inhaled. All of a sudden Integral yanked the wicked thing away as her body was raked with harsh coughs.

She removed her hand from her mouth and coughed again then cleared her throat. She stared ahead of her, a little surprised. That certainly hadn't happened before except the first few times she had started the nasty habit of smoking.

She rubbed her throat some and turned to the door when she heard the soft rasping of knuckles against it. She called hoarsely for the person to come in and Walter, the butler, stepped in holding a tray with a small white teapot and a steaming cup of dark tea placed on it.

"Good evening, Sir. I brought you your tea as you requested," he said calmly as he set the tray in front of her. Integral nodded and leaned back in the chair, still a little shaken by the sudden attack of such violent coughing. She had almost thought she would hack up her lungs!

"Are . . . you alright, miss?" Walter asked worriedly, noticing her dazed off expression.

"Huh? Oh, yes. I'm quite fine. That'll be all Walter," she said, waving him away. He nodded before walking out and closing the door behind him.

Almost midnight

"MASTER! GAH!" a female voice rang out in a high-pitched squeal followed by the booming of a gun going off then the sound of the bullet ricocheting off a wall.

"Come, police girl! This is not hard," a deep voice thundered with obvious amusement followed by another gunshot, both reverberating off the walls.

A young, spiky redheaded woman screamed in horror and started running around the chamber with her supernatural speed. Of course this didn't slow the motion of the gun which followed her every move.

Alucard grinned insanely as he shot round after round of ammo at his young and ignorant apprentice. Seras Victoria, an innocent beauty, was a vampire he had created and in the back of his mind he wondered why it couldn't have been someone else.

"Alright, take a break!" he shouted to the far regions of the room where he saw Seras pressed up against the wall, ruby eyes wide and shivering.

He sighed in heavy boredom as he sat down a table in the middle of the room. On it laid two medical blood bags. One was for him and the other for the woman who was slowly inching her way over to him.

"Here, police girl," he said as he tossed her a bag. She gasped as she struggled to catch it, but in the end she had to bend down and pick it up from the floor.

She looked at the bag in disgust and set it back on the table. Alucard had grown used to his apprentice declining the precious fluid that kept them strong and powerful.

"You're going to give in one day, girl. The blood singing freshly in one's veins is enough to drive your master here mad. Sadly though, I either take what is offered or none at all. You'd be wise to drink your fill or you're going to have a very hard time defeating our enemies later on."

Seras cringed when he sank his lengthened crannies into the plastic and began sucking with a look of bliss on his features. She shuddered and eyed the bag lying quietly in front of her, haunting her, taunting her, luring her.

She stiffened her spine and stuck her tongue out at it childishly then spun on her heel and stalked away. Alucard snickered.

Integral had her head bowed as her pen moved furiously over different types of papers. She was in the middle of writing her name when a sudden pain pounded sharply in her chest.

She gasped in surprise and pressed her hand against her breast, the pain not letting up. She threw back her chair as she bolted to her feet, causing a strong wave of dizziness to hit her like a ton of bricks.

The woman stumbled around her desk, trying to get to the door only to fall to her knees, the crushing pressure on her chest increasing. Tiny beads of sweat formed on her forehead and the pain only spread out throughout her limbs.

She tried to call out to Alucard, Walter, anyone, but it was agony to even breathe. She fell back and clutched at her suit.

Seras heard the sound of a still half-full bag of blood fall to the floor and the scratching of a chair being thrust away. She turned just in time to see her master run through the wall. She became tense and rigid as she looked around, becoming wary of every shadow in the room.

Something was wrong, she thought as she ran out of the chambers and went looking for Walter. Alucard never really did waste a packet of blood and the way he left so suddenly was a dead give away to something out of place.

She stopped in the kitchen to find Walter untouched and safe as he hummed a tune while preparing dinner. He glanced over his shoulder and his smile disappeared at her frightened features.

"What's the matter, Miss Victoria?" he asked, walking over to her.

"I don't know, but Master Alucard just suddenly left and I have a bad feeling it wasn't a call from Sir Hellsing!" she said frantically.

"Oh now, calm down. No need to get worked up over Alucard's actions. The man is a basket case and he does things without warning or reason. We'll just report this to Sir Integral. Come along," he said, dragging a worried looking vampire behind him.

When Alucard slid through the wall of his master's office, his eyes instantly fixed on the woman lying motionless in the middle of them room.

"Master!" he cried and ran to her. He knelt down and dragged her limp form into his arms. Her eyes were merely slits as she stared at him, her mouth partially open. The taste of fear was horrible to him as he tried in vain to keep her awake.

Integral watched as the familiar scene played before her. He shook her and shouted her name. It wasn't from anger. His eyes were wide and shaking slightly. It wasn't from insanity. The blood on his teeth was not hers. Fear, horror, and confusion was plain on Alucard's face and in his voice.

He wasn't trying to kill her. He wasn't trying to change her. She was dying and he was trying to keep her alive. Guilt rode her hard for ever doubting the loyalty and honor he possessed. Vampire or not, Alucard was truthful to her and did exactly what she told him to do without fail.

"Al . . . uc . . . ard . . ." she whispered. Her vampire's deep voice grew distant and faded as her heart flutter then ceased beating.

His name was the last thing he heard before her eyes closed completely and the last rush of air escaped her lips. Her body went limp in his arms.

He went rigid. He was frozen; was cold and alone. Everything was silent. Even the storm had lightened outside. His master, his Integral, had just . . . died . . . right in his arms. It was so mind numbing that he just sat there unable to comprehend it.

But slowly, as realization sank into him, red liquid rimmed his eyes as he looked down at the pale, lifeless woman. His grip tightened around her as blood tears spilled over his cheeks, leaving two red streaks down his face.

Footsteps were heard then, one pair hurrying while the other one took its time. They paused outside the door and a feminine gasp was heard followed by the sharp intake of breath from the other.

"Master . . .?" he heard Seras call quietly as she took a steps into the room. His back was to her and he was hunched over the still Integral, his head bowed with his hair shielding his face. He said nothing, but his shoulders tensed noticeably.

"Master? What happ--" she tried again, standing beside him.

"Leave," he ordered softly. "You, too, Walter."

"Lord Alucard, we must notify the hospital. I know there's nothing they can possibly do now, but we should find out what happened," Walter urged gently, not knowing what will set off the unpredictable vampire.

Seras nodded in agreement, but kept her distance from Alucard. Something--the air maybe--became ominous and thick with unknown tension. Her eyes flickered with fear when she saw a jagged bolt of electricity arch in front of her.

"Master," she whispered as the room got darker and intimidating.

"Leave me," he said again, this time his words bit out coldly.

"We can't, Master! We need to--" her next few words stuck in her throat when the tiny blue bolts of electricity made themselves known as they whipped and cracked all around the darkened room.

"Alucard!" Walter shouted, fear and confusion pitching his voice slightly higher than normal.

Alucard's head snapped up and his wild, red gaze locked onto his apprentice's and she backed up on instinct. Murder, regret, anguish, and many more emotions darkened her master's normally calm, cool eyes.

She opened her mouth to say something, but a bolt sizzled just across her face. His voice rang out, literally making the walls shake.

"I SAID LEAVE!! NOW!"

Hair began standing up from the static filling the already tensed room. Seras screamed when larger, more deadly streaks slammed into the floor, scorching and blackening it, and pursued after her.

Walter moved away quickly as she leaped out of the room, the door slamming firmly behind her and the lock clicking from the inside.

Everything was quiet now. From under the door, the room could be seen lighting again. Outside in the halls sat the two stunned and shaken figures and in the room was an angry and mourning vampire with his dearest ally and master in his tense arms.
