Hellsing Fan Fiction ❯ Happy Birthday, My Master ❯ Courtesy of a Vampire ( Chapter 2 )
Integral sighed as she made her way to her bedroom. She was full from the earlier dinner at the restaurant and now from the delicious cake that had been made just for her. Now she just wanted to take a bath then get a good night's rest before facing the today's and the next day's work.
Integral pushed open her door and froze in the doorway. Her once large and totally plain bedroom was turned into a dark, almost sinister, romantic fantasy.
Her room was dark with only crimson candles to light it. There were at least five dozen candles lit everywhere; on her bureaus, on the nightstand next to bed, circling her bed on clear coasters, beside the bathroom door and inches from every wall.
In the middle of the room were a single table and two chairs sitting opposite each other. There was a glass bottle sitting in the middle of the table and two flutes filled with red liquid.
Integral looked around slowly as she stepped in and closed the door softly behind her. She made her way cautiously to the table and stared at it.
"Welcome back, master," a familiar deep and dark voice sounded to her left. She saw a shadow stir out of the corner of her eye and it took form. Stepping out into the flickering candlelight was the one and only Alucard.
He walked up to her with his arms clasped behind his back. His shaggy black hair was brushed from his handsome features and his red-wine eyes burned into her own. Instead of clad in his normal red suit, hat, and glasses, he was donned in black.
Brown leather boots that reached up to his knees then continuing up were black pants that clung to him like a second skin. He also wore a white button-up shirt tucked into the pants with the collar parted and folded up to his chin. Over that was a nicely pressed black coat with its tails hanging limply at the back of his thighs.
Integral stared with her mouth hanging ajar. Alucard chuckled darkly and bowed his head slightly, looking down his bold nose at his dear master, an insane grin splitting his features.
"A-Alucard?" Integral breathed.
"Yeeess . . .?" he said, taking another daring step toward her. Integral snapped her mouth closed and her bright blue eyes hardened followed by a sneer that curled her lips.
"What the hell are you doing in here? What did you do to my room?!" she said, her voice rising in volume. Alucard chuckled again and moved a hand from his back and raised it up to his face, pressing his index finger against his lips.
"Shh. Now, now, Master. No need to shout. I'm right in front of you and I can promise that I'm not deaf." Integral backed away, her sneer deepening.
"Get out, Alucard."
"And ignore everything I had put effort and time into just for you? I think not." He turned his back to her and went to stand behind one of the chairs. Integral gawked at him.
"What did you just say? Y-you think not?! You dare wave my order away as if it meant nothing?!"
"Mmm, that about says it. So yes, I do." He smiled pleasantly at her as if he were blind and couldn't see the fury shaking here very body.
"Get. Out," she hissed between clenched teeth. Alucard raised an eyebrow every so slightly and his smile turned sly and mischievous.
"I have a better idea. Why don't you take a seat here and we can act civil for once?" He pulled out the chair he was standing behind and waved down at the cushioned seat. "What do you say, dear master?"
"No I don't want to sit down. No I don't want to converse with a walking corpse! What I want is for you to leave now and to never disobey me again!"
"Oh come on, master."
"LEAVE!"
Alucard closed his eyes and heaved an exaggerated sigh. He walked around the table, his finger trailing along the polished top then up the other chair, making his way toward her. Integral backed away a little, scowling at the vampire.
"I'm warning you Alucard," she said softly, menacingly. What was going on? Alucard never ignored an order of hers! Never! If only she had her gun in hand.
Her gun!
Integral's eyes flicked toward the top drawer of the dresser closer to her bed. She always kept one handy just for emergencies.
"Plan to grab that toy, master?" Her gaze shot right back toward Alucard. He was standing lazily just feet in front of her, his long arms crossed over his powerful chest.
"Don't think I will hurt you, because I won't. No reason to actually. I just want you to relax and enjoy your birthday."
"Relax in the presence of a foul, bloodsucking monster? You wish. I'm going to tell you one more time. Leave." She inched closer toward her dresser, her eyes glued on the man in front of her.
Alucard lowered his head and chuckled. "You're so stubborn, Miss Hellsing. I offer my kindness and hospitality and you turn it down as if it were nothing."
"You are nothing," she hissed, taking another step away. Almost there. A few more steps.
"Well then, if you won't take the offer willingly . . ."
He suddenly appeared at her side, wringing a cry of surprise from her lips. His hands shot out and grabbed either arm roughly and jerked her against him. His face came within inches of hers.
" . . . Then I'll force you to take it."
They were suddenly standing by the table once more. Integral pounded on his chest and started screaming curses at him and other insults. Alucard didn't find any of it offending, just amusing. He forced her down into the chair and patted her thighs, smiling at her flushed and horrified face.
"There. Glad you decided to join me than be the usual stubborn wench donned in men suits I've known all these years." He made his way around the table and took a seat himself. Integral went to jump up, but it felt like her legs were strapped to the chair. She looked down in horror as she tried to move her legs.
"Calm down," Alucard said as he poured her a glass of the blood-red wine. He set it in front of her and went to fill his glass. Integral looked at it as if it was filed with poison. Alucard raised an amused eyebrow before taking a sip of his wine.
"Release me," she demanded.
"Drink the wine and I might consider it."
"Bastard," she hissed. Alucard looked over the rim of his glass and stared at her. Her electrifyingly blue eyes were darker than usual, obviously from the seething rage of being controlled by the one thing she hated.
Her large glasses reflected the candlelight as she struggled in vain against the invisible bonds he had placed on her.
Her moonlit blonde hair was pulled up into a now loose bun, several strands falling down to her shoulders, exposing the creamy slender column of her neck.
He bit down hard on the rim of his glass. His gaze became dark and hungry as he stared at her throat, her pulse beating strongly under the smooth flesh.
Integral finally stopped struggling, but kept a sharp, watchful eye on the cocky vampire sitting opposite of her. She noticed that he was staring at her and she scowled. Suddenly thirsty she grabbed the flute and took a sip then set it down.
They sat there for a good eight minutes, staring each other down, occasionally sipping their wine or refilling their glasses. Alucard looked down into the red liquid that painfully resembled blood. Then an idea struck him.
Alucard pushed out his chair and rounded the table to stand behind the short-tempered woman. She snapped her head around to look up at him furiously. He grinned and leaned down, his red eyes capturing hers.
"Before I take my leave, master, would you," he snapped his fingers and suddenly violins playing soft, gentle music filled the room, "take this moment to dance with me?"
Integral looked at him as if he were mad. Dance with him? Dance with Alucard, the evil and very irritating monster she had to put up with all these years?! Never! She would never--
"Please?"
She stopped in mid-thought and just sat there numbly. Had he said please? Even if the bloody fiend was born and raised nearly six hundred years ago, when men were utmost gentlemen to the ladies and the ladies would blush and giggle, Alucard was not one to beg anything from her or anyone else. Even under her control he still did as he pleased, with certain limitation mind you.
Still, if he had forced her into drinking wine with him with no effort at all, then it shouldn't be a problem for him to simply make her dance with him. Not only were vampires sly, cunning, and nearly invincible, but they were confusing, moody, and downright annoying. They possessed both good and bad traits. It was enough to give one a throbbing headache.
But it was her birthday and not only did Walter and Seras celebrate it, but her forever loyal, if you could call him that, vampire slave had even taken the time to do the same. What harm could one small dance do?
Show your weakness.
But there was no sense of weakness dancing to one song with Alucard. Then again, anything could really happen around the beast.
As she weighted the pros and cons on whether or not she should dance with Alucard, the invisible weight on her legs lifted. Her gaze shot up to see Alucard heading to one wall, his form stiff. Had she angered him in her delay to reply? Had he read her thoughts?
"Happy Birthday," he growled over his shoulder, "and a good evening to you, Sir Integral."
Oh if was obvious she had offended him and wounded his pride. His voice revealed it.
Integral watched as he disappeared through the wall. The music was still playing even after her left. She stared down at her hands then glanced over at the empty chair across the table.
She stood slowly and took a few steps away from the table, her hands balled into fists at her sides. Alucard had taken the time to set up her room into something romantic, had put out some of his best and favorite wine out, and had asked for one single dance in return. Even he didn't deserve such cold treatment for his thoughtfulness.
Her face crumpled to a look of defeat and she pressed her thumb and forefinger against her temples where the beginnings of a headache were starting. Living with someone like Alucard was a tiring job and real pain in the ass sometimes.
"Alucard," she called, eyes closed as she rubbed her forehead. The music continued even as the room chilled and the flames of all the candles dimmed and flickered wildly.
She turned slowly as Alucard materialized from the shadows and stood in front of her. She agreed silently to herself she would dance with him once and only once.
Glaring at him she held out her left hand and waited. Immediately he stepped toward her and took it and pulled her closer. She had to resist the urge to push him away and put some distance between them. The feeling of them being so close was unsettling to her.
"Relax, I'm not going to bite you . . . although an offer would be tempting," he said thickly the traditional grin appearing on his handsome face. He placed his right hand on her hip as she rested her right hand on his shoulder.
"Oh shut up. I'd never offer such a thing to you so don't get your hopes up," she grumbled moodily as they swayed to the music, Alucard leading them.
"What made you change your mind, master?" he asked suddenly. Her gaze, which had been focused on a button on his white shirt, snapped up to search his. His eyelids were dropped lazily over his red eyes as he stared down at her.
"Because I wanted--because I wanted to--Alucard, I want to--ah," she struggled, trying to say those two simple words.
"Thank me?" he suggested with lazy causality. He cocked his head to the side and grinned knowingly. She frowned at him and turned her head away. The music began to rise in volume causing their dance pick up pace and enthusiasm.
Alucard was remarkable, shocking her. Knowing him for eleven years now she had thought the only thing he was interested in was the thirst for challenge and battle. When had he learned to dance?
He would swing her out and swing her back in, putting his hand right back where it had been. He would dip her, hold them in that position for a few moments then straighten back again to go back to swaying. And he would occasionally twirl her.
When the music finally began to settle down they fell into a gentle sway once more. They were quiet most of the time until Alucard spoke up when the music faded away. He took a step back and bowed.
"For a woman who dresses like a man, you're an exceptionally good dancer," he complemented. She turned away, feeling her cheeks heating up. Why was she blushing?
"Yes, well," she started, not knowing what else to say. She was feeling awkward now as the heavy, unwanted silence fell upon them.
"Another dance, master?" Alucard said in his deep voice. She narrowed her eyes.
"Now you're just pushing it, Alucard. You said one dance and then you'd leave. Why are you still hear?"
"Because," he said simply. Integral rolled her eyes.
"Now you're being childish," she accused.
"Am I?" He took one bold step forward, bring him abruptly in front of her. She craned her neck slightly to glare up at him.
"Alucard, I'll admit I enjoyed dancing with you, but now you must--" she started, anger slipping into her tone. But she was cut off when one long arm slid around her waist and arched her into him.
"Then dance with me again," he urged silkily. His eyes bore deep into hers and she shivered slightly. What was he putting on now?
