Chapter 1: "Can I keep her?"

Setting: Alternate Universe where there's no evil demonic gods or Nazis trying to destroy the world.. just Freaks and Gouls and the occasional Vampire to kill.
Disclamer: Not mine. Don't own anything. Not even the OC! The Evil Purple Space Monkies own them. I'd like to see you try and sue them! Hah! But, thankfully, they don't make any money off this either. "I see. We'll be there shortly." Integra hung up the phone as her pet came out of the shadows and lowered his head in a respectful bow. "My Master." His deep baratone voice was quiet but clearly heard in the cavernous room, "Orders?"

She didn't bother looking up from the paperwork she had yet to finish for the day, "There have been reports of a Freak killing anyone that enters the eastern side of Thames Chase. Your orders are as always: Search and destroy." He smiled a sadistic smile before fadeing back into the shadows once more, leaving his Master all alone in the giant office.

He didn't have far to travel, Thames Chase was just on the Eastern side of London. The scenery of the forest brought back memories of days long sense past as he took his time getting to the area of the reported Freak.

The stench of death permiated the forest and he knew he was close. A small crunching noise could be heard just behind some bushes to his left, but he knew that wasn't what he was looking for. No, it was just a wild dog eating a limb it had managed to snag from the pile of bodies left behind by the Freak.

All he could sense were dead humans and a few wild animals hopeing for a chance to get a snack. There was no Freak here. It must have gone already to find more victims. He looked around for any sign of which way the Freak had gone. He was, after all, an exelent hunter.

As he neared the mass of corpses, a low growel could be heard from the trees above. He looked up just in time to see the Freak jump down to attack. He easily avoided it and pulled out his gun, aiming it at the creature's head.

He stoped. This was no Freak, it was a Human. She was snareling at him like a wild animal, ready to attack. Her long, dark hair a tangled mess drenched in blood and dirt, hanging limply, frameing her dirty face and peircing green eyes that held nothing but pure animal instinct. Her cloths were nothing but torn rags that hung loosely from her tiny frame as she prepared her next attack.

He put his gun away as she lunged at him with a wild scream. He easily side-steped the attack and watched in facination as she landed gracefully and spun around to immediately deliver her next attack. He guessed her to be about 5'2" and perhaps 15 years old. She was fast and agile as she swung her 'claws' at him and tried to deal some kind of damage.

He stoped and waited for her to attack again, but she only went back to the spot beneath where she'd been previously sitting before he arrived, keeping her eyes on him the entire time.

How curious he thought to himself as he watched her sniff the air a bit then go back to just watching him. He pulled out his cellphone and called his Master. "What is it? Have you killed it yet?" "No, Master.--" "Then what the bloody hell do you want?" "It's not a Freak." "What do you mean 'it's not a Freak'? Then what the bloody hell is it?" "Human." "Human? Wha-? ..Explain." "She is acting like a wild animal, killing anything that comes too close. She seems to be quite mad." "....Stay there and keep an eye on her. I'll be there in a moment."

He did as he was told and watched as she seemingly deemed him no longer a threat and made herself a snack from one of the fresher corpses.

By the time Integra arived, she had made herself a little bed from the corpses and dozed off. "Now, what the bloody hell is going on?" Integra demanded as she looked over the scene.

"She seems to be protecting something.." Alucard said thoughtfully as he took a few steps toward the girl. She instantly woke up and began groweling at him in warning, then stoped when he took a step back. "She seems to have some strict bounderies set up as well."

The blond looked at him as though he were speaking another language, "What do you mean 'bounderies'?"

"At the distance you're standing, she doesn't seem to notice or care what's going on, but here, she keeps close watch on me." He took a step forward and she started groweling again. "Here she gives a warning, and any closer, she attacks." He demonstrated by taking a couple more steps forward. She promptly jumped up and lunged at him.

Integra watched closely as the girl attacked her pet Vampire, noteing the way she fought as though she were a wild beast. This was quite unusual. She had heard of ferral children, children raised in the wild by animals, but this girl was wearing cloths. It was highly unlikely that a ferral child would be wearing cloths, so she must have been living in civilization at some point in her life. How did she end up here? And for how long had she been living this way?

She settled down and went back to her previous spot as Alucard returned to his Master's side. "What would my Master have me do?" She took a moment to think, steping forward to see if, perhaps, it was only men she was hostile toward as she saw no female corpses.

She quickly steped back to her previous spot, not wanting to be attacked as the girl groweld at her where she should have been only watching her. "Well, we can't just leave her here..." She continued to ponder what their course of action should be as her pet crouched down to look at her from a diferent angle, his hat and glasses disapearing.

"I think she likes me." Alucard said as he watched her look him over. She held no hostility in her eyes as before, just curiosity. He moved forward a bit and held out his hand. They both watched as the girl causiously moved closer to him and sniffed the air, glancing nerviously at Integra.

He looked up to his Master, "Can I keep her?" She gave him a look that said she thought he was crazy and he pouted. "Please?" Integra rolled her eyes at her Vampire's antics and sighed in defeat, "You will have to take care of her, AND only until we can find her family. Don't harm her." She walked away, knowing this was a bad idea, but too tired to care at the moment. She'll get Walter to look into it and find out who she is and where her family is and then they can send her home, back to Human society where she belongs.

Alucard smiled at his Master's retreating form. He hadn't had a pet in so long. The last one was just a spider he'd found in his room and Walter squished it.

He turned back to see that she'd come closer now that his Master had left. She looked kind of Asian and he thought she'd be pretty cute once she was all cleaned up. He gave her a friendly smile and held his hand out to her again, unfortunately, however, he moved a bit too fast and frightend her. She jumped back and hissed at him before climbing back up into her tree.

As the sun began to rise, Alucard figured it would be a good idea to take a nap. She wasn't going anywhere and it was dark enough for him to sleep comfortably thanks to the thick canopy. He made himself comfortable against the trunk of a large oak and drifted off into a dreamless slumber.

Bright green eyes watched curiously as the man in red slept peacefuly, his hat pulled down to block out a bit more light. She sniffed the air once more to make sure there was no threat and soundlessly made her way back down to the ground. She was careful as she steped over the bodies of her enemies and made her way over to him, watching for the slightest movement and ready to either fight or run back to her tree.

She sniffed at him curiously, unsure what to think of him. He smelled good. He was wearing the colors she was atracted to. She reached up to touch his face, but stoped, noticing the diference in their skin. Hers was rough, splotchy and dirty, his looked soft and clean. She took in every detail of his face with inocent curiosity. He looked like those things that tried to take them from her, the things she had killed and that now lay scattered across the ground around them, but he looked diferent from them as well. He was more attractive somehow, she just couldn't quite figure out why or how.

Alucard woke to find the girl sitting next to him, her face mere inches from his as she studied him. She quickly backed away, but didn't go too far, and continued watching him, trying to figure him out. He decided to stay where he was an wait for her to come to him.

He didn't have to wait long as she inched her way closer, nerviously glancing around to make sure nothing was going to jump out at her or try and take her by surprise. She eventually made it back to where she was when he'd woke up and took a great interest in his eyes. The others didn't have eyes like his. She wondered if he would taste the same as them as he definently smelled diferent.

He was startled as she jumped back and started groweling, looking off in another direction. A small group of wild dogs came through the underbrush, hoping to grab one of the corpses for an easy meal.

She wasn't going to let them have the chance as she lunged at them, tackling the alfa and sinking her teeth into it's throat. He watched in morbid fasination as she fought off the dogs while somehow managing to keep hold of their leader's throat. Then before the poor thing knew what had happend, she ripped it's throat out, holding the piece of meat in her mouth and groweling at the others as it bled out, twitching and whimpering as it died. The rest of the pack quickly ran away, tails tucked between their legs as she spit the furry chunk of flesh out, leaving her snareling at them with blood staining her teeth and dripping down her chin.

Now he knew why the'd thought she was a Freak and how she'd survived out here on her own. He'd never seen a Human fight like that before and he couldn't help but think about how much it turned him on.

She sat next to him again, mimicing his position, not seeming to notice the blood that dripped down her chin, and watched him, her head cocked to one side as her eyes shined brightly with an innocence found only in the youngest of children.

He couldn't help but smile as he slowly reached his hand out, so as not to alarm her, and wiped the blood from her chin. That was all it took for her to trust him, that one gentle touch. She scooted over to sit in his lap and grabbed his face with both of her dirty little hands, turning it this way and that to get a batter look at him from diferent angles. Once satisfied, she took his hat. He watched as she sniffed at it then fliped it around and studied it before puting it on her own head and looking up to him for approval.

He laughed. She looked like a little girl trying on her parents cloths as the hat kept trying to fall over her face. She took his laughter as a sign if approval and smiled back at him happily. She then decided to studie his shirt and jacket, playing with the collars, feeling the fabric and flipping it around to see how it moved. Then she looked curiously at his hands, wondering why they were white and why they had the strange markings on them.

He noticed what she was looking at and took off a glove and laughed at her reaction. She looked back and forth between him and the glove a few times, her eyes wide and jaw slack in amazement, then quickly snagged the glove from his hand and examined it carefully before putting it on her own hand. It was the wrong hand but that just made it even cuter. She gave it a funny look as it hung akwardly from her small hand before taking it off and looking at his hand. She examined it, then compared it to her own hand. His was so large compared to her own. His nails were nice and neat where hers were jaged and caked with dirt, his were so cool while hers were warm.

She eventually fell asleep, still holding his hand that she'd been examining for the better part of the day. He decided that now would be the best time to take her home, while she was asleep and couldn't protest. He sent his Master a mental message that he had her safe and sound, and the area was safe for the clean up crew.

He couldn't help but notice how light she was as he carried her into the bathroom to get her cleaned up. She was nothing but skin and bones. How long had she been out there like that? He worked on pulling a few twigs and leeves out of her tangled hair as the bath filled.

She woke to the sound of water and the feeling of cool arms wraped around her. She looked around nervously before seeing the man she'd quickly come to admire and calmed down instantly. She didn't know why, but she just felt safe with him, like nothing could ever go wrong when he was around. She took in her surroundings, noticeing she was nowhere near her little spot in the forest. Anxiety began to creep up on her as she wondered what happend and where she was, but was calmed by his soft touch and quiet voice as he assured her that she was safe and everything would be alright.

The water was warm and relaxing as he lowered her gently into the bath and she watched with fasination as the water poured from the faucet. How'd it do that?

Alucard laughed at her expression as he poured a bit of soap on to a washcloth and started cleaning the dirt and blood off of her. He knew Police Girl was going to be pissed when she found her bath things missing, but didn't care as he scrubbed the girl clean. She was in awe at the knowledge that her skin was as white as his, save for the mass of freckles.

He had to drain the water out and refill the tub once due to all the dirt that'd come off of her and now sat trying to work the knots out while she played with the washcloth. He was glad that her hair wasn't nearly as bad as it looked, otherwise he would have had to cut the knots out. That would have been such a shame as it was so long and pretty. It was almost as black as his and reached just above her knees.

After she was finally all nice and clean he wraped her up in a big fluffy white towel and dried her off. He didn't have any decent cloths for her so for now he dressed her in one of his shirts that hung down to her knees with the sleeves rolled up so she could use her hands. He tried his best to braid her hair so it wouldn't tangle, but it came out pretty sloppy. She didn't care though, she was just enjoying all the attention he was giving her.

He set her down in his favorite chair and knelt down so he was eye level with her. "I'll be right back, alright, Sweetheart? Will you stay right here for me?" He smiled as she noded then phased out to see what his Master wanted him for.

Integra waited impatently for her pet, it shouldn't take him that long. He phased into her office only a couple of seconds after he normally would have. He wondered how she had any patents with Walter. The old buttler took much longer to come when called than he did. She huffed in annoyance, "About time! What took you so bloody long?! Oh, forget it! You were right, she was protecting something. They found a wrecked car overgrown with all matter of plants and the remains of the family still inside. In the reports I've received, they seem to have been there about two years."

"Two years?" Was she really living out there all alone for that long? Integra lit up a cigar, "Yes. There were a couple aproximately in their late forties at the time of death, a young man in his early twenties and an infant about two years old. They said there's evidence of another passenger that was in the care due to the marks on the seatbelt."

"Any word on who they were yet?" He asked after a moment of tense silence. "No. They're preforming the autopsies as we speak and should have their identities in one to three weeks." She took a long drag from her cigar, she hated this kind of work, that's why she tried to stick to just dealing with the Freaks and Gouls, leaving the identifing of corpses to the police.
