Chapter 2

~~~
Author's note: Finally! I have finished the second chapter! Mwa ah ah! Hope you guys like it, it's just as insane, really, but I don't know if it's in a good way. Warning: Much, much, MUCH more shounen-ai and even lemony scented. Must note, of course, that Hellsing doesn't belong to me, though I would be ragingly happy if I did. If you don't like this, don't complain, though I suppose I'd understand, as silly as I am by having written it. Anyway--go! Go now and read!
~~~

Integral Hellsing was positively fuming. Not even Walter knew why, exactly, but he had managed to keep her from rampaging at the very least. The butler visibly relaxed only when he espied the bleeding ink-blot of darkness that signaled Alucard's entrance.

"I fucking hate vampires!" Integral muttered the instant Alucard emerged.

"Too bad the feeling isn't mutual, I can't find it in myself to hate my highest source of entertainment."

Integral gritted her teeth, uttering a few choice obscenities behind them.

"Evening, Walter," Alucard greeted the aged man, moving a few steps into the room while taking the brim of his hat between a few white-gloved fingers.

Walter inclined his eyes and shoulders downward in welcome answered by the vampire bowing, brim still in hand luckily, causing the hat to fall from it's place on his head.

Integral's crystal blue eyes narrowed in a glare.

"Alucard."

The vampire grunted in reply.

"Get rid of her."

"What 'her' would she be referring to?" He asked Walter.

"That little vampire out there," Integral snapped at him, not allowing Walter to answer. "That's just as much trouble as help! What keeps her from--"

As Integral yelled incessantly at him about Celas being a bane, Alucard spoke just loud enough for Walter to hear.

"Lover's spat again?"

The corner of Walter's mouth lifted into a reserved smile. Integral's rant went on.

"And if I find one more instance when she--Mein Gott, what the Hell is in your pocket?!"

It was probably the closest reaction to screaming shrilly and jumping onto a chair that Integral Hellsing could ever get. She wasn't exactly feminine, or brainless, enough be capable of anything closer.

Alucard, predictably, didn't move to look at what her eyes were so wide about.

"My potato. What about Celas?"

"Your what?!"

The vampire actually sighed.

"My potato."

Walter's arched eyebrows lifted in curiosity and he moved closer to inspect the black thing sticking out of Alucard's pocket.

"Somehow, it can't be that simple," Walter mused as he dared reach out to the unidentified thing.

The blackness and Alucard's pocket began writhing at the approach, causing the butler to quickly pull his hand back to a safe distance.

Still, it writhed, it's blackness now marred by a tiny pink curl and two points of light.

"Aw, Walter, don't tease--she likes you."

"She...?" Walter asked quietly.

"That's it! Out!"

"But Miss Hellsing--"

"NO! OUT!"

Alucard nodded with amusement and placed his hat back onto his head. He turned on his heel and hooked his arm with that of the butler's, intending on taking the man with him. Alas, just before the two of them reached the door, Integral called to Walter.

"Yes, Integral-sama?"

The vampire, Alucard, left ahead of him, leaving Walter alone with the woman.

"Send Celas to my office."

"At once, Integral-sama."

He stepped back from the room and shut the door behind him. Upon tuning toward the vampire, he came face to face with a ball of ebony fluff and two black eyes like pools of wet paint that reflected only a dot of white light in each. It was all he could really see at the moment.

"Alucard?" Walter said calmly.

"Yes, Shinigami?" he purred.

"Why do you have a puppy--"

"Her name is Potato."

"Alucard, last time you got a puppy--back in the 1980's, I believe--it was a mutt called Killer--"

"I didn't name him that."

"He killed more than we did! What terror will this one wreak?"

"She weighs less than a kilogram."

"Nevermind, Alucard."

Walter turned away from him and walked down the hall. Alucard's eyes widened slightly in surprise at Walter's reaction, the butler used to be able to banter endlessly with him, never so easily tired as he was now. Age really was taking its toll and leaving its fingerprints.

He gave the fuzz ball a brief nuzzle and placed her back into his pocket. Following the man, the vampire paid extreme attention to him, noting all the little things that remained from Walter's youth. What had come to be and what it had replaced.

"Walter... I want to ask you something."

"When I have given Miss Victoria her message."

Walter moved better and far more gracefully than most refined men in their twenties, but it was nothing compared to Walter's own twenties--when he could have easily surpassed Alucard's power in a great many ways. He had often rivaled him in such abilities, but they both seemed to revel in their skills complimenting each other more than the idea of them opposing.

The butler gently knocked on Celas' door. There was a surprised noise, a series of thumps, a heavy thud, and some hurried footsteps before Celas' young face peered from between an opening made in the door.

"Yes?"

"Integral-sama has requested your presence in her office."

Celas gasped in disbelief, sunset eyes going wide.

"Really?"

Walter nodded.

"Thank you!" she said happily and shut the door.

"You're welcome, Miss Victoria..." he whispered with something like exhaustion.

"About what I wanted to ask you..."

Walter nodded again, still standing before the fledgling's doorway. His head tilted forward, eyes closing.

"Go ahead, vampire."

"Well, it's not really a question--so much as a request."

"Yes..." Walter urged quietly.

"Um... I..."

Walter was very suddenly pulled into a hold that could've only been the vampire's arms. When the man opened his eyes, he was indeed in Alucard's embrace, but it was the portal of ink-darkness that worried him. Especially when it swallowed them.

If Walter could've passed out from the visions he saw, he would've gladly fell unconscious. Strangely, though, he found he could not, and even worse, his senses seemed all the more keen to absorb this world with.

And then they were regurgitated into Alucard's personal chamber. It was really more of a play room; a bed chamber turned den.

The vampire released Walter and took a few steps to the door. It was when the butler heard the clicking of a lock that he looked up to the figure at the door.

"We will watch all five 'Evil Dead' movies, Shinigami--even if it kills you."

Alucard offered his playful grin and Walter... blankly stared a long minute before speaking.

"There... are five?"

Alucard laughed to himself and nodded. Moving from the door, he brushed past Walter to pull him to the burgundy couch strategically placed about two feet from the large television.

"Sit, Shinigami, I even bought you Sour Cream & Onion Pringles and Mountain Dew to sustain you."

"I stand all amazed," Walter muttered, flicking the vampire's ear before sitting beside him. "Let the marathon begin."

Alucard grinned, more happy than amused. Even ageless vampires missed their best friends.

"M-M-Miss Integral?" Celas stuttered upon entry of the other woman's office.

"Celas Victoria..." came the reply, sending the petit vampire's eyes wide.

"I-I was told by Walter that you wanted to see me?"

"Lock the door."

"W-what?"

"Don't make me repeat myself, Victoria."

"Yes, ma'am."

An audible clink after the lock slid into place let the platinum blond know that her orders had been fulfilled.

"Come here."

Celas didn't question the command this time and ventured further into the darkened office, stopping when she saw Integral's silhouette against the chair.

"Closer."

She moved again, until she felt the edge of the heavy, English oak desk press into her hip.

"Now lean down."

She hesitated--a kiss? Integral had never asked for one before, but she did as she was told, though, and reeled back in pain at the force of the blow Integral dealt her.

Integral stood and came around the desk, blue light shielding the woman's eyes from inquisitive searching ones, like that of Celas Victoria.

The former cop held a hand to her face and stood slightly bent as she stared.

Integral's hand came up again, causing Celas to flinch, and took firm hold of the wrist by the vampire's face.

"If you ever, ever tell me 'no' again--I'll order Alucard to dispose of you. Do you understand?"

Her voice was so cold, Celas almost couldn't believe her ears. The smack she could expect, she supposed, even the anger, but she couldn't stand the ice when Integral spoke.

"Y-yes, Miss Hellsing."

Integral's mouth seemed to become even more unhappy, but she nodded.

Celas waited for it. The command to do something to or for Integral, to make up for what had happened. But Integral didn't say a word, she simply stood there. Unreadable, with Celas' wrist firmly in her grip.

Then Integral's lips parted, softening her whole demeanor, and she let Celas go.

"Leave."

"Int--?"

"Now."

Celas didn't know, as she left the office behind, what she was more surprised by. Being told to leave or the whisper with which it was said.

All anyone knew in Hellsing Academy, was what they were told but their higher-ups--And they didn't know a God-damned thing about the ten hours straight that varying noises were forced through Alucard's door.

Most often, the sound was Alucard's laughter. Less often, was Walter's in combination with it. All throughout, were screams and demonic voices, and the tormented narration of the main character concerning the Book of the Dead and all that entailed.

The noise went through dawn and almost grasped noon before it ended. Then blessèd silence--or so they thought.

"I will beat that dragon, if it's the last thing I do," Walter muttered. Milon's 2-bit form went through the arcade motions that Walter's fingers instructed of him

Alucard held out the green and silver cylinder of Pringles.

"Chip?"

A hand shot into the can and pulled out a short stack of the curvy things. They were unceremoniously shoved into Walter's mouth in an effort to get back to the controller and escape a red, fish-like enemy.

The vampire set the can down, then leaned his cheek into a palm propped up by an elbow. Alucard was often amused by humans, but in the end they were what also caused him strife and suffering. The pain always varied. Wounds from the physical, to the psychological, to matters of the heart.

Walter was one of those rare convergences in his life where he found himself amused and torn all in one smile.

"Shinigami, I want--" The rapping on the door stopped him from finishing.

Alucard stood and went to the door, to unlock and open the physical barrier.

Only two people would have ever ventured to come knocking at his door and one was in the room with him. That left Integral.

"Miss Hellsing."

The woman was as stern as ever, she ran a tighter ship than Napoleon. Her iron visage was out of necessity, most of the time, to keep Hellsing where it needed to be. The mask wasn't for that reason this time, though, and sadly Alucard could tell. What has Celas done now? he wondered.

"I want you to know that Celas Victoria is under house arrest until further notice. No field work, no joy rides, not a run to the corner store unless cleared by me. Understood?"

Walter had paused the game to turn and stare at Integral. House arrest? For what? How is it that I know nothing about this?

"Walter," She stated, as though reading his mind. "You've been neglecting your duties long enough. I recommend you get back to them."

"He's only been occupied since late last night," Alucard said in opposition. Walter felt that the defending statement was unusual for the vampire.

"Too long," Integral said, finalizing it.

And then the high-pitched, pissy, shrieking yips erupted from the black ball of fluff at Alucard's feet. The puppy had been completely unnoticed until that moment.

"Mein Gott!" Integral growled. "Put it out of its misery!"

The vampire reached down and the fluff met him halfway by leaping for his arms. Once standing straight again, he rubbed the top of its head.

"Potato is not miserable in the slightest, Miss Hellsing. In fact, she'd probably like you if you gave her a chance."

The pinpoints of light that were the only indication of where it's eyes generally were, were fixated onto Integral. The Hellsing woman shook her head disapprovingly. That was probably her mistake concerning what happened next.

Potato made a suicide leap from Alucard's cradling hands to Integral's chest. Once there, she proceeded to shove her skinny, pink tongue up a nostril.

"OW!!!" Integral shouted, wrenching her head away.

But patiently, Potato moved to face her yet again, shoving her tongue up the other nostril.

Miss Hellsing batted at the fuzz ball, but the shock of the occurrence happening, combined with the burning sensation of her nose being cleaned out forcefully, sent her storming down the hall.

Walter was blinking, Alucard was grinning.

"So that's why you got her. She might as well be a zombie dog."

Alucard chuckled and shut the door again.

"Have you managed to kill the dragon yet, Shinigami?"

"No!" he grumbled and took the game off pause to continue.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Of course, Alucard," but he was very intent on the game on the screen before him.

"You're going to have to pause the game, though."

It took another minute, but Walter did. Those lovely steel gray eyes looked up at Alucard from a face that had aged finely, but aged all the same.

"Yes, what was it you wanted to ask me?"

Alucard lowered himself onto the couch beside Walter's cross-legged form and offered him a fang-y smile.

"Once upon a time I asked you a question... Do you know what question I'm talking about?"

Walter looked thoughtful, then smiled back at him.

"'Chip?'" He laughed and shook his head. "No, vampire, you're going to have to give me more clues than that."

"Twenty years ago in a room all to ourselves..." He said, Walter nodding, and he continued. "You were drinking wine, I was lounging opposite you." Walter face gave him a look that said 'we did that often'. "We spoke of Cyndi Lauper, Tolkien, and the dangers of Duck Hunt, amongst other things." Recognition began to dawn. "And we ended up talking about your profession... And I asked you..."

If Walter could've looked more ashen, maybe he would have. Instead, he lifted a hand to say he wanted Alucard to quiet and, strangely, the vampire complied. Then, after a number of minutes, Walter resolutely tried to play the game once more, but he couldn't. He saved it and shut it off, then turned to Alucard, stormy eyes turned onto Alucard's sunsets.

"You asked me to be like you..."

Alucard's smile returned, slightly rueful. "And you had an answer that I let you keep for two decades... It's getting late, Shinigami... Will you be that stubborn until your clock tolls midnight?"

Walter drew in a soft, but deep breath, then let it out in a word. "No."

"When will you say 'yes'?"

He looked down. "When you come to do the deed."

The vampire's eyebrow rose sufficiently. When he came to turn him, he would say yes? Then... if he moved to change Walter now... he would give? It made little sense to him, but he would not refuse the luck.

"All right, Shinigami... Thank you for answering."

Walter nodded, but the laid back, the comedic mood had been broken and he wasn't feeling well. Integral had told him to get back to work and maybe it was time to do so.

"I have things to attend to, Alucard, I'll see you... later."

Alucard watched him draw away from the couch and leave with a dignity the butler still never truly understood he had. What fine a vampire he would make, what a fine everything.

Walter caught up easily on the work he had neglected, satisfying Integral enough that she admitted she would try to be better whenever Walter actually took time off. But Walter was exhausted, age and staying up for 48-hours straight was not good for him at all.

In his room, he loosened his cuffs and stripped the vest from his torso. The shirt soon followed, along with his shoes. He left the slacks on his body as we went about doing his other preparations, teeth, face, hands.

When he finally retreated to bed, he almost instantly fell asleep in the middle of it as the bed sunk into the floor. He didn't have to have a bed like the vampires, but it was a more secure way to sleep. Nothing could get in, then again, nothing could get out either. He had put in an emergency toggle, but even he didn't know if it would really work.

He was dozing between sleep and awake when he heard his voice.

"I know you're tired, but you can't sleep yet."

You can sleep when you're dead, Walter thought, forcing his eyes open. Alucard lounged near him, propped up on the headboard. He held something, a bowl was it?

"You have to eat first... comfort food, they call it."

"Comfort food? Alucard, what are you making me endure this time?"

The vampire almost pouted as he helped Walter closer, though the butler ended up leaning on him sleepily in the end. Alucard offered the bowl.

"Cookies and Cream," he explained. "You deserve it."

Walter looked down at it and took it from him. In taking the first bite he could feel the sugar almost instantly dissolve into his bloodstream, waking him up a little better.

"Thank you, Alucard."

"You're quite welcome, Shinigami."

Walter continued to lean on him as he took bite by soothing bite. The vampire had been right, comfort food.

"Have you come to change me?" he asked quietly, halfway done with the ice cream.

"I would like to, but it isn't necessary. If you need some more time, it's not like I can't wait."

He paused in his eating to think.

"No... no, vampire, there is no better time, really. And look, you brought me my last meal too..."

"You make it sound like an execution."

"Forgive me. It's just very strange to think that I won't be... human anymore. I've been one so long, it's an odd detachment."

"It will get worse, then go away. You will be you... no human, no vampire, just you. Don't ever let anyone make you think otherwise."

Walter finished the ice cream and let the spoon clink against the bowl, at which time Alucard took it and tossed it into a miniature ink-blot portal he made just for the purpose of disposing of it.

"Will you, Shinigami..?"

"Yes," Walter replied. "I will."

And then the most unexpected thing happened. Walter was being kissed, full vampire lips coaxing and praising his aging ones. Alucard was undaunted by the age, Walter was still beautiful, still fine, well-cut, and perfect underneath it all. Walter was too off-guard to argue.

The vampire's hands drew Walter to lay down once more, on his back, as he lay beside him. His fingers trailed across the soft skin over hard muscle. There were two times in a human's life when their skin was so wonderfully soft, as a baby and when old. He adored both, somehow, but only as a passing, fleeting thing. He would not let Walter stay this way.

His fingers splayed across the still-tight stomach, delved under the waistband of Walter's slacks, and moved inside of them. Walter sucked in air sharply and his chest lifted.

"Why, Alucard... I didn't know you cared... But what does this have to do with making me a vampire?"

"Absolutely nothing..." he purred against Walter's ear, eyes slipping shut while he breathed in the scent of Walter.

His fingertips didn't move that much between Walter's thighs, just touched and felt over it very lightly. His lips trailed down Walter's neck, his mouth closing warmly on the hollow of Walter's jugular in a kiss.

Alucard's hand cupped Walter's sex, a thumb stroking it slowly, and then the teeth came. For all the expecting Walter had gone through before now, it wasn't enough, and he tensed instinctively before he relaxed again. Good Shinigami, Alucard thought, the blood sweet from time and metallic from health as he suckled it from the wound on his neck.

The vampire rarely felt this languid when feeding, but somehow he could afford to be with the man beneath him. Even for one as he, for whom time passed so easily and quickly, this felt as though it lingered a long while before his lips broke from Walter's skin and his tongue took a final swipe over the wound to staunch it.

All the while, his fingers had stroked and cradled the sex in his palm with a reverence and a gentleness not to be understood.

Alucard's sunset hues drooped in warm indolence as the blood of a man he loved spread through his system. He also knew what came next, what Walter would go through now. He kept the one hand between the man's legs, while the other snaked under and around him. Then his mouth captured and held Walter's as the last living kiss he would ever feel on his way to death.
