Initial D Fan Fiction ❯ Initial D Poem ❯ The Race ( Chapter 1 )

[ A - All Readers ]

I pull up to the line in my '86 Corolla
Next to me sits a white '91 RX-7
Driven by a legendary racer
They call his car “The White Comet”
The flag goes down

Our cars take off, tires spinning
His car is faster but he gets behind me
I've won all my other races with ease, but this one seems different
The first corner is coming up, I slow down and drift around the corner
He remains behind me copying my technique perfectly

I can't shake him, he's always there
He's closer to me than my own skin
He's making me very nervous
We've gotten through the first twelve corners
He's still on me like a bumpersticker

The thirteenth corner is approaching
I drift into the turn
TOO FAST!
My rear tires lose too much traction and I slide to the outside
He passes me and I'm about 100 yards behind him

I now how to use every technique I know to just catch him
I drop my right tires into the gutter making my car turn awkwardly but faster
I'm still about 76 yards away
The five consecutive hairpins are approaching fast
I'm catching up to him, but barely

I'm now only 20 feet behind him and his tires are extremely worn
My car has long lasting Jetzon Revengers
His has Pos-A-Traction tires, which wear out fast
He can't control his car as well because of the tires

It's the last corner and were neck and neck
I took the inside and am now ahead about 30 feet
We're going faster than the spectators eyes can see
The finish line is up ahead but he is catching up fast
I cross the line about 0.001 seconds before him and shatter the record by twelve seconds

WOOOO! My team yells
No one can believe that I, a delivery person, actually beat an undefeated racer
I can go home now and get a free tank of Hi-Octane from my dad for winning
This was better than getting to drive for the first time
