The Guardian Quest
Other One
A young couple was driving down an empty highway in the dead of night. One of the windows was partly open to let some clean forest air in the car. The couple was supposed to be on vacation, but a recent tragedy made it a sad experience. The woman, Sakita, had recently had a still born baby, and due to an unfortunate accident, she couldn't have another baby. Her husband, Dalen, took his wife on vacation to get her mind off the baby, but it didn't work. She tried to have fun, but just couldn't. It was too hard for her. Dalen was driving when Sakita woke up. She had been sleeping in the passenger seat for a few hours. Sleep was only time when she was at peace with herself. The rest of the time she was sulking. “Dalen, why did this have to happen to us?”
Dalen was irritated with her sulking. “Sakita, can we not dwell on the past? We'll move on.”
“But that was our only chance because of that accident. We're childless.”
“Well you still have me.”
“Yes but, I wanted a family.”
“Hey, we are family. Don't worry, we'll get through it, okay?” Dalen said in a soft, reassuring voice.
“Okay.” Sakita wasn't reassured though. She was still mourning inside. She looked out the window at the forest. She took in its beauty and decided that nothing could disturb this peaceful moment. Then something unexpected happened. There was a loud thunderous noise above them. Dalen and Sakita started to panic as the noise got louder, but they kept driving. Then Sakita spotted something bright in the corner of her eye. “Dalen, what is that?!”
Dalen looked and saw a huge fireball hurtling down at them at an angle. The object came down so fast that Dalen didn't have time to stop before it hit the ground. Luckily it hit about twenty five yards away from them in the forest. Dalen swerved off to a stop at the edge of the forest.
“Are you okay?” Dalen looked worriedly at his wife.
“Yea, I'm fine. What was that thing?”
“I don't know it looked like some kind of meteorite.”
“Come on, let's go check it out. Someone might be hurt.”
Sakita and Dalen went in to the forest to look for any other people. When they got to the crash site they saw a lot of debris, but luckily not much fire. As Dalen looked around he saw what looked like the meteorite. Strangely, the meteorite didn't look like a meteorite at all. Actually, it looked square. But when Dalen got closer he realized the material wasn't rock, it was metal. It was a spaceship!
“Sakita, come here, you're not going to believe this!”
Sakita started to go over to Dalen but a crying sound from the forest caught her attention. If some one was hunt she couldn't ignore it. She left Dalen and went to look for who ever was out there. Dalen went even closer to the ship and touched it. He also noticed the platform door in the back was open. Cautiously he went inside. The ship looked square on the inside just like the outside. In the back of the ship there were small benches on the sides of the walls, and in the middle was a strange box like device. Dalen moved to the front of the ship where the cockpit was. There was a standard control panel and a steering wheel much like a car. There was a plot seat and a passenger seat up front also. On the passenger's seat was a silver oval shaped object with a golden seven pointed star on the center front. Dalen took the device and studied it. “Hey Sakita look what I found.”
No one answered.
“Sakita?” Dalen looked around but there was no one there.

Sakita walked through the forest looking for the person who was crying. The person kept crying but it was hard to tell which direction it was coming from. She had to concentrate big time to figure this mystery out. Finally after a particularly loud wail she finally knew where the person was. She came closer and closer until she got to a small clearing. Unfortunately, the crying stopped.
“Hello! Is anyone out here?” Sakita looked around but there was no one.
“Don't be scared. I've come to help you.” Then she heard a rustling sound behind her. She turned around a saw a little flash of silver disappear into the bushes.
“Hey, come here. I'm not going to hurt you.” Sakita ran to the bushes and peered behind them. A very young boy was huddling against a tree, scared half to death.
“Hey little guy.” He tried to shield himself even more.
“Don't worry. My name's Sakita, I'm not going to hurt you.” The boy felt comfortable by her voice and relaxed and opened his eyes to look at her.
“Come on out, you're safe.” The boy crawled out of the bushes and sat on the ground. Sakita bent down to get a better look at him. He had white-tan skin and spiky black hair that seemed to stick out in all directions. Plus he was very dirty. He wore a torn silver shirt with a golden seven pointed star on the front and silver pants and had shocking golden yellow eyes. Another thing Sakita noticed was that he was much younger than she though. He could have been one and a half at the very greatest.
“You're so young. How did you get way out here?” Sakita picked him up away from her and then noticed something very strange that made her give a small yell of surprise. The child had a long, brown monkey tail that was currently wagging back and forth happily.
“Y-you have a tail?” The child looked confused by her reaction and his tail stopped wagging. “How?” Sakita looked at the boy with confusion and curiosity. The child looked back then started laughing and reaching toward her, wanting to be held. Sakita smiled and held him close. She didn't care about how strange he was, all she knew was that he was alone and needed someone to comfort him. She just stood there holding him for a while until she heard a crashing sound in the forest. She looked up and saw Dalen bursting out of the forest.
“Where were you! You were gone without a trace! I kept calling and calling you but you didn't answer! I was so worried! Are you okay?!”
Sakita must have been so focused on the child that she must have not heard him. “Yes Dalen, I'm fine.” Sakita said in a rather cheery voice.
“Good. You are not going to believe this. The meteorite isn't a meteorite at all, it's a- who's that?” Dalen finally noticed the child in Sakita's arms, who was completely terrified of the man and was clinging to Sakita for dear life.
“He's a child I heard crying out here.”
“Why does he have a tail?” The tail wasn't hard to notice since the fur was all fanned out from fright.
“I don't know.”
Dalen approached Sakita and the boy turned away in fear. “Don't worry little guy, he's not going to hurt you.” The boy looked at Dalen somewhat reassured and with a hint of curiosity. “This is Dalen, my husband.” The boy had no idea what Sakita was saying but it looked like she knew him so he must be okay. The boy smiled at Dalen and started laughing a little. Dalen smiled back at him then turned to Sakita.
“I heard him crying out here, and found him totally alone. Where are his parents?”
“I think the question is, what are his parents?”
Sakita was completely baffled by that statement. “Why would you say that?”
“Sakita, that meteorite, isn't a meteorite at all. It's a spaceship.”
“What?!”
“It's a spaceship, and I think this little guy came from it.”
“Dalen that doesn't make sense. The so called spaceship is almost 100 yards away from here. There's no way he could have crawled that distance in such a short time.”
“Sakita, the door was wide open. Maybe he fell out during the crash.”
Sakita looked at the boy in disbelief. “We don't have any proof that he is an alien.”
“Actually we do.” Dalen pulled out the oval shaped object. “I took this from the ship. It has the same symbol that's on his shirt. I've never seen this kind of symbol before.”
“Well if he is an alien, then why is he on Tolon?”
“I don't know. Maybe his parents abandoned him.”
“Well we can't just leave him here. Maybe we could-.” Sakita was cut off when both of them heard sirens. The police were here, probably because of the crash.
“Come on, we got to get out of here.” Dalen led Sakita to the edge of the forest with the boy still in her arms. When they got to the road they saw that the army was also at the crash site. Since Dalen “parked” so close to the forest, they got in without being seen, and silently drove away. All the soldiers were in the forest so Dalen and Sakita made a clean getaway. Dalen drove for an hour before deciding they were a safe distance away. He pulled over on the side of the road to discuss some things. The boy was sound asleep in Sakita arms.
“Sakita,” Sakita looked up at Dalen. “what are we going to do with him?”
“We're going to keep him.” She stated a matter-o-factly.
“Keep him?! Sakita we can't keep him. He's not human.”
“So what. Who else is going to care for him? We can't give him to the government. Who knows what they'll do to him!”
“Sigh. What if his parents come back?”
“Then we'll give him to them. Until then, we're his parents, and he's our child. He's our second chance.”
Dalen couldn't argue with her. She won. Besides, the kid was really cute, and he always wanted a son. “Okay, we can keep him.”
Sakita cried out happily. “Yay! He'll be such a good boy!”
“But what are we going to name him?”
Sakita thought a moment. “Jack.”
“Jack?”
“Sure. It means Other One.”
Dalen gazed at Sakita and the boy and smiled. “Okay, his new name's Jack.”
Sakita smiled and looked down at Jack. “Your new name's Jack.”
“Come on. Let go home.” Dalen drove home with his new found family.

I know Jack doesn't really mean `other one', but that's what it means on the planet Tolon. Jack actually is a diminutive of John which means `the Lord is gracious'. By the way, I named the characters by their personalities, not by other reasons.
That was chapter one. The other chapter one was so confusing. Chapter two is coming soon. Review please ^_^!
