~~Chapter One: About a School~~
Looking out the window, Ryu made a face. It was Thursday afternoon last period, and he was getting anger and impatient. Ryu was a sixteen-year-old boy with a mean streak and enough personal issues for a half dozen people. He was smart, to say the least, and had a quick wit and body to match his personality. That is, handsome and well toned, but a bit callous. The teacher was currently droning on about something, but he couldn’t care less.
“I don’t have to deal with this shit, ” he muttered. “I don’t have to deal with any of this.” With that Ryu got up and started to walk toward the door. He did not get far before the teacher noticed.
“Mr. Rezo Cuzin, if you would be so kind to return to your seat, we still have some time left before the period ends, and I and the rest of the class would appreciate it if you would not blatantly disregard the current lesson. Learning this has value in life and I am sure you will be able to use it beneficially.”
Ryu smirked and turned to his teacher, with mischief in his eyes. “Oh, I had no idea that the rest of the class cared about me being here,” his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Or the fact that I don’t care about this shit. I am never, and I mean never going to need to know about some crap that happened three centuries ago in France. So why don’t you take that huge ass history book and shove it up your…”
“Ryu!”
Ryu turned to see a very angry Ayane. He could only smile to see her get pissed. She was one of the few people that could stand to be with Ryu, alone, for more than twenty seconds as a friend. It was just so hard to get her mad, so it was easy for them to become friends, if you would call them friends. But showing no respect for teachers was one of those things that got to her. “And what are you going to do about it, throw a hissy fit?”
“No, I am going to castrate you.”
That got his attention. Ayane was not one to make idle threats, and if she said something, she would most likely carry it out. With the threat of being rendered emasculate hanging over his head, he returned to his seat.
“Thank you, Ayane, for helping Mr. Rezo Cuzin. However, next time do not threaten him. Now returning to the lesson at hand…”
The bell abruptly rung and the class started to leave.
“Remember, homework is to read chapter six and do the questions. We will go over them on Monday.”
Once outside the classroom, Ayane started walking to her locker with Ryu in tow.
“You know Ryu, you do not have to be an ass to Mr. Yogi just because you don’t like the class. Being nice to him might make the class go faster for you.”
“Like I’d ever be nice to that fag. He doesn’t deserve my kindness, and besides, I hardly think putting more effort forth in that class will make it go faster.” He paused to crack his neck loudly. “You gonna do the homework over the weekend?”
“Yes Ryu, and no, you cannot copy it. You have to learn to do homework or you are never going to go anywhere in life. I swear, the only time you ever ask for help is when you ask for someone’s homework.”
“So what! It’s not like I’m failing any of my classes, and I don’t think that I will ever use what I’ve learned in that class in the real world.” He sighed as he looked over the vast horde people. “You gettin’ a ride home with your older brother?”
She smiled, knowing what he would never ask but just hinted at. ‘He would never ask for help even if it killed him’. “Yes Ryu, he is giving me a ride last time I checked. Do you need a ride home?”
“I don’t need a ride home, but since you asked and I have nothing else to do here, sure.” He hesitated before going to his locker. “He’s in the student parking lot right, not on the hill?”
“Yeah, second row like always. Don’t keep him waiting too long, or he might just leave without you.” She threw a small smile at him before she made her way off.
‘God, I love it when she smiles. And she has a nice ass as well…whoa, where did that come from, this is Ayane, not some street whore. Get your mind out of the gutter!’
He made his way over to his locker, pulled out a few books and put a couple from his bag in, and checked to make sure he had his pack of cigarettes. ‘Damn, I only have two left. I have to get some more soon.’
Looking around, and seeing that there was almost no one left in the hallway, he pulled out his skateboard and propelled himself down towards the main entrance. As he rounded a corner he smashed into someone unlucky enough to get in his way in and agile enough not to fall.
“Hey watch it Ryu! It’s more than enough that you piss everyone around off, but colliding with them when they are trying to leave is something else.”
Ryu instantly recognized the voice as he picked himself up off the ground. “Sorry ‘bout that Raziel, I’m kinda in a rush.” He looked over at his full youkai friend. He himself was just about six feet tall, a good three inches taller than Raziel and with broader shoulders. Raziel’s hair was a few shades darker than Ryu’s, making it an almost absolute black and the same for his eyes. Ryu’s were more of an olive color.
Keeping his face almost completely neutral with the slightest hint of a frown, Raziel pointed at his friend. “Being in a rush is no excuse for running into me. But since you’ve decided to assault me in the hallway, I feel it is my public duty to give you something in return.”
“So long as you don’t sing or force feed me your cooking, I’ll be a good sport.”
“Ha ha, Ryu, very funny. Listen, I’ve heard something from the school board that you might find interesting. They are going to close the school and relocated all the students to different schools in the neighboring towns.”
He let that sink in for a second before continuing. “It seems that the town was too small to support it’s own educational system. I also heard, but don’t hold me to this, that the town is going to be broken up and absorbed by the other towns. I know it seems farfetched, but that’s what I heard.” All the while the two boys were walking toward the main entrance.
“If that’s true Raziel, I think I am going to miss this school.”
“You, missing this school? That’s just absurd. Last year you told me you couldn’t wait until you were sixteen so that you could just drop out, and now your saying that you are going to miss being at this school?” He glanced thoughtfully at his deranged friend. “Unless you are going to be missing the girls at this school, specifically Kureha, Kagome and Rin.”
He smirked inwardly as he watched his friend stiffen. Those three girls, along with Ayane, were the only ones to resist Ryu’s suave advances. Though he was known as an ass and a jerk, he could be very romantic if he tried, and if he wanted a girl, he usually got her.
“Well, do you know what school we’d be going to, that is if we are going to the same school.”
“We would be grouped by where we live. So we would most likely go to the same school, us being two streets away from each other. And if we went to the same school, so would Ayane, with her being closer to you than me.”
“Why is it every time I ask you a question, you never completely answer it?”
“I have no idea what you are talking about,” he said without his face showing any emotion.
“Answer my question or you’ll be eating tile in a second.”
“As for the second, I just do it to piss you off”, he said while dodging as Ryu tried to punch him. “And as for the first, we will probably go to Shikon high.”
Ryu turned to face his pessimistic companion. “Doesn't Akinos have a friend over there? What was his name…? Oh yeah, Miroku.”
“Yes, the pervert. He tries to get as many girls as you do…”
“But fails because he can’t keep his goddamn hands to himself! I have met very few girls that like that kind of shit, and the ones I have met need to be washed, ” he paused to consider something. “Several times in fact.”
“Don’t you do that to your girls? What makes you any different?”
He put on an asinine grin on his face as he replied, “It’s all about the approach. You can’t just go around groping girls, you need to say something sweet and thoughtful, and take your time with the grope, not just groping all the time all at once,” he glanced at his watch. “Oh shit, I have to get going. Will you be online tonight?”
“Yeah, I have nothing better to do. Also I’ll try to find out more about who’s going to which school.” He grimaced slightly as he thought of something. “Is your Dad going to be home this week. I really don’t think it is that healthy to live off of ramen and pizza.”
“Yeah he’s going to be home, but it’s not like it matters. The bastard’s a drunk and doesn’t cook.” Ryu shook his head. “It’s amazing that he still makes money when the longest he’s been sober in the past two year is twelve hours.”
“You should show him a little more respect. He’s the one who pays the bills and gives you money to buy food and clothing, not to mention he puts a roof over your head. You owe him at least a little respect.”
“I owe him nothing. He has never been there when I needed him and he never will be. All he does is go away on ‘business trips’ and drinks himself into a stupor in his room. I’m surprised his liver hasn’t given out yet.”
“If it does, he could just by himself a new one. He does have vast amounts of money and power, and he still knows how to use them.” He sighed knowing Ryu would never show an ounce of respect towards his father. “All right, get going. Ayane’s brother isn’t going to wait much longer. See ya Ryu.”
“Later man!” Ryu shouted back as he rushed toward his ride.
************************************************************ **********
Upon reaching the car, Ryu noticed two irritated teens. He smirked knowing that he was the one to cause their anger.
“What’s up? Been waiting long?”
“Shut up and get in the goddamn car you ungrateful piece of shit! I’ve been waiting too long for you and I am not in the mood to deal with your shenanigans!”
Ayane’s brother was positively livid, and like his sister, it was hard to get him angry.
‘He’s must have had a bad day. I guess it’s my duty to make it worse.’
“Shenanigans? You sound like an old man, and I’m guessing you don’t want to act like one, do you?”
“Keep talking and I’ll wipe the smirk off your face you little punk!”
In a fair fight, Ryu knew that he would be able to whip Ayane’s brother’s ass hands down. He was just stronger, faster, and all around a better brawler. And the fact that he was a hanyou, an Archangel of sorts, but his wings resembled more of a bat than a bird.
“We both know that you couldn’t touch me no matter how hard you try, so don’t even get started. I know you’re insecure about your sexuality but you don’t have to try and take it out on me.”
“I’m going to fucking kill you, you little imp!”
Ryu glanced out the corner of his eye. Ayane face was red with anger and she was clutching the seat. ‘She looks angrier than normal for something like this’, he thought. ‘I’m going to have to make it up to her.’ As he climbed in the car, he said in a calm voice, “Be quiet and drive.”
He closed his mouth with a click, not wanting to continue arguing. He put the car into gear and started to pull away.
“Oh Ayane, I just heard from Raz that they are going to be closing the school. Apparently the school doesn’t have enough funding to continue to be open.” Ryu knew that she would start to freak out, for school was one of the more important things to her.
“I also heard that, Ryu, from one of my teachers,” the elder sibling said. “Though you would think that the federal government would step in and provide funding.”
“I think they’re not doing that because one: it wouldn’t be cost efficient, two: the other schools have yet to reach their limit for kids, and three: I fairly certain that some company has already bought the land.”
Ryu glanced over at Ayane, and what he saw he wasn’t expecting. She seemed happy with this current change. ‘Why would she be happy? This isn’t like her at all.’
“Um, Ayane, why are smiling? I would think you would be upset about the school being closed.”
“It’s just that the school that we would be sent to would be Shikon High School.” She smiled at him. “I have a friend that I made last summer at a camp that said she went there, and I’ve seen her a few times at field hockey games.”
“I never knew you had a friend at Shikon. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I did. You just don’t listen to me.”
“I do too. I just happen to have a bad memory. It’s not my fault.”
“Actually, it is. If you wouldn’t do so many drugs you wouldn’t have that problem.”
“Crack-head,” the elder sibling coughed from the front.
“What did you call me ass-wipe!”
“You heard what I said druggie.”
“Retard,” Ryu muttered. “So, what is the name of this friend of yours? I might have dated her.”
“Her name is Sango, Ryu, and I don’t think you’ve dated her. I’m sure she’d remember you. I don’t think she’s dating anyone, but she said she kinda likes this boy named Miroku.”
“Miroku? She likes the pervert?”
“How do you know about Miroku?”
“He’s one of Akinos’ friends. What, does she like to be groped or something, or does she not want to go out with him because he gropes her and other girls?”
“The second one. Sango did say something about him and his lecherous hands. She also said something about him reminding her about a monk that she once read about.”
“A monk? How could that lecher ever remind someone about a monk?”
“I don’t know. But that’s what she said. Oh, is your father going to be home? You really can’t live off of that junk you eat.”
“Why is everyone so concerned about my diet and parental supervision! Yes, he’s home, but that doesn’t matter. It’s not like he cooks or anything. Lazy bastard.”
“Ryu, so the man some respect!”
“Why is everyone on my fucking case about this shit! First Raz, then you! Who’s going to be next, fucking Akinos? You people need to mind your own goddamn business!”
“Calm down Ryu. We wouldn’t if we didn’t need to. You think you don’t need anyone, but you do! If you just asked for some help…”
“I don’t need your help! I don’t need anyone’s help!” Ryu yelled. ‘Why can’t they just leave me alone. They think I’m some teenage waste in need of a shrink.’ He let out a prolonged sigh as they pulled up to his house. “You gonna be online tonight Ayane?”
“Yeah, I should be. I’ll be seeing you.”
“Yep, thanks for the ride. See ya.”
Ryu climbed out of the car and grabbed is bag. He took a second to gather his thoughts as they drove away. ‘Great, with my father being home this week and with the changing of schools, he’s goin’ to hassle me for every fucking detail.’ He let out an exasperated sigh before lighting up a smoke. Inhaling deeply the intoxicating smoke, he felt himself start to relax. ‘This is not going to be my week. I better get a couple more packs. I have a feeling I’m going to need them.’

Those who are fretting that this is not a story about Inuyasha, fear not. This still is about him and his little gang, and they are still the main characters. I’m simply adding some new people to the mix and I needed to introduce them. The next couple of chapters will still be introducing them, but the original gang will make an appearance. Enjoy!

As the author’s older brother as well as the editor, I am going to give any potential flamers a warning. Pay attention, because this is the only one you will get: any review which I feel bears even the slightest resemblance to a flame will be posted in its entirety at the end of the next chapter, followed by an angry discourse in which I will most likely dwell on the illegitimacy of the flamer’s birth and the unsavory habits of his ancestors.
